The New York Giants surprised and nearly shocked the football-betting world last Monday night. Opening as double-digit dogs, bettors mocked the Giants by taking their NFL Week 8 matchup opponent, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, up to 13-point favorites. The Bucs could easily have squandered their narrow 25-23 victory, eventually clinching the win after a last-second failed two-point conversion attempt from the Giants to tie. Bettors did correctly move the total to the over, which closed the online NFL odds at 47.
Coming off their bye week, the Washington Football Team last saw action in an NFL matchup in which they knocked out Andy Dalton and manhandled the Dallas Cowboys to a 25-3 final. The injury profile doesn’t suggest that’s the reason the Giants are taking money here. Their practice week began with the story of disgruntled WR Golden Tate who missed Wednesday’s practice after a dispute concerning his playing time.
We like the Washington Football Team here at this price. We’d expect it to climb back up again soon and would take the -140 now.

Along with the moneyline, bettors took the opening spread of the Giants from +3½ through the key number and down to 2½. Again, there’s not much to support that kind of move based on NFL injury news. Washington did lose S Landon Collins to the IR since the last game, but both rosters return more or less intact.
We’ll take the Football Team laying the lowered football betting price here at -2½ and rationalize the market move at +3½ was in part to get ahead of setting up a middle. It’s never lost on the market (and always priced in) but worth remembering this is one of those odd instances in which one team is coming off a short week (five days rest) versus one coming off their bye (13 days).

Currently at 42½, bettors took the total over its open of 41. We’d play this the same way but would be cautious doing so past 43½ (expecting it will continue to climb). One of these weeks, Giants’ quarterback Danny Jones might display downfield accuracy and drop something in WR Darius Slayton’s basket. Those are points Washington will have to overcome for this prediction to work out cleanly. However, we’d bet Danny Dimes can manage at least one of those against this secondary this week.
