Broncos vs Chargers Week 16 Betting Predictions: NFL Betting Lines
Broncos +155 | Chargers -175
The Los Angeles Chargers had a huge lead against the Denver Broncos the last time these two teams played, but the Broncos rallied with a few late touchdowns to win on the final play of regulation. The two teams are both 5-9 on the season and have been disappointments for online betting handicappers. But the Chargers have clearly shown a lot more high-end potential than the Broncos. While it is always very possible for the Chargers to squander a good situation – it is something they do quite often, as a matter of fact – Los Angeles has a lot more talent and upside than Denver does. It would not be all that surprising for the Chargers to stumble, but the odds remain stacked against the possibility that Denver will sweep the season series and win on the road in L.A.
Sportsbook Pick: Chargers to win
The significant gap in quality between Los Angeles rookie quarterback Justin Herbert and Denver quarterback Drew Lock is impossible to ignore. Herbert looks like a quarterback who will be in the NFL for the next decade if not 15 years. He already displays high-end skills and winning tendencies. If he and the Chargers can get the right coach (they haven’t fired Anthony Lynn yet, but many in the NFL expect them to at the end of the season), Herbert could have a tremendous career.
Lock, on the other hand, is still a very hesitant quarterback for the Broncos. He has missed some of his best receivers this season due to injuries (Courtland Sutton being an example). However, Lock makes a lot of bad decisions with the ball and has not progressed to the extent the Broncos hoped he would. He did engineer a winning rally against the Chargers earlier this year, but Denver was badly outplayed in the first three quarters of that game two months ago. We expect Herbert to outplay Lock and carry the Chargers to a cover here.
Pick: Chargers to cover
The limitations of Drew Lock should keep the Denver score under 20 points. The Broncos’ defense was embarrassed by Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. While it won’t shut down Justin Herbert, it also won’t let him run wild. Moreover, the fact that these defenses have played the opposing offenses should create a level of familiarity which will lead to more defense – not less – compared to the first meeting between these two teams several weeks ago.
Pick: Under 48.5
Chargers 26, Broncos 19
Broncos vs Chargers Week 16 Betting Predictions : Props Talk
There are a number of select props to pounce on in this game. Let’s pick apart three of them.
Double Result (First Half and Regulation)
The Chargers should be able to get off to a good start and finish with a win. They might not outscore the Broncos in the second half. But if they lead at halftime, which is likely, they will still win. Since the end result is what matters, not the second-half spread, a double-Chargers play makes the most sense here.
Will the game go to overtime?
The Chargers do play a lot of close games, but it’s very unlikely that an NFL team will play overtime games in consecutive weeks. The Chargers played OT last week, so don’t bet on them going OT this week. While there’s a lot of juice to lay here in terms of the NFL odds, the historical trends are on our side, and we shouldn’t see an extra frame of action.
