New York Giants at Chicago Bears
Where: Soldier Field
When: 1 p.m. ET
If you are looking for a battle that matches two of the weakest teams in the NFL and come in at Nos. 26 and 27 in my NFL Power Rankings Week 2, then look no further than the New York Giants visiting the Chicago Bears Sunday and take advantage of my Expert NFL Betting Advice. The loser of this game should be the Bears.
I can hear people already saying, since Chicago beat the Detroit Lions, 27-23, and covered against the spread (ATS) while New York lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 16-26 and lost ATS in the opening week of NFL betting, common logic would tell you that…Well, this ain’t common but it is a lot of logic that comes into the probability that the Lions come into Chicago and spank the Bears back into hibernation. There is more to just final scores that meet the eye here!
You are right. Duh Bears did defeat duh Detroit Lions, and now everybody is on the Mitchell Trubisky train, which is heading for a wreck. Believe me Bears fans, Nick Foles will soon be your quarterback and who knows if he is actually successful. I am not saying he is the answer because Foles has a lot of holes. I am saying it is time to cut the Trubiskical cord and unhitch.
Many Bears fans will point to the comeback kid, Trubisky, for praise and you couldn’t be further from the truth. As an NFL QB you can’t suck for three quarters and take advantage of an unprepared two-minute defense in the fourth quarter every week. You get one week against the Lions and it is over. Trubisky may seem to have a hitch in his step during his interviews acting like he is all that and a bag of chips, but he is not even the bag of chips. The Lions gave up 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, which was ridiculous. The Giants will not allow that.
Daniel Jones looked decent considering it was in a loss and he threw two interceptions. The Giants were playing what may be the best defense in the NFL in the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Danny Dimes still completed 26-of-41 for 279 yards and two touchdowns to go along with those two interceptions. The reason the Giants lost is Pittsburgh’s rush defense limited Saquon Barkley to 6 yards on 15 carries. It is going to be near impossible for your team to win or cover when your best player rushes 15 times and get 6 yards.
The Giants won’t have that problem this week, and I will give the fact that the Bears have a decent defense. But they aren’t sniffing the level of smack-in-the-face “D” the Steelers are rolling with now. The Giants will be able to at least run on them to an extent and Barkley shouldn’t have a problem getting over 100 yards. There is the shortened week problem for the Giants, but no problem because Mitch can make you Rich!
Since Detroit is the only team that Trubisky can look like a starting NFL QB against, I don’t expect his passing game to have much success against the Giants’ defense. It looked decent against the Steelers, so it is a given that it will look better against Trubisky. All these facts also favor this game being a good bet on the under which has BetUS sportsbook odds at 42 for a total.
What Are the Odds?
The Bears are favored by 5½ points somehow, and I would expect that line to move to 4 but who knows with all this public love for the Bears and Trubisky. This game should be a defensive underwhelming fest and compete with the Paint Dry game of the week, Thursday Night’s Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns game. At this writing, they didn’t have all the player prop betting options up yet, so I would at least bet the Giants first to 10 points +160.
This personally looks like a game that the Bears are going to get waxed. The bottom line is to take advantage of the public view that the Chicago Bears and Mitchell Trubisky are good when they are a below-average team.
The picks: Giants plus the 5½ points, the moneyline +210 and under 42 Total in the BetUS Sportsbook.
