Green Bay Packers (3-2-1) vs Los Angeles Rams (7-0)
Sunday, October 28th – 4:25pm ET – Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
Betting Line: Los Angeles -9, Total 56.5
The Green Bay Packers head to Los Angeles to take on the 7-0 Rams. Green Bay, led by Aaron Rodgers has had an underwhelming season. They’re 3-2-1 going into Week 8 despite a relatively week schedule.
Green Bay’s only quality win was a Week 1 24-23 win against the Chicago Bears. Since then, they tied versus the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2, lost 31-17 to the Redskins, and lost 31-23 to the Detroit Lions. There two other wins were against the 2-5 Buffalo Bills and the 1-6 San Francisco 49ers.
Despite the weak schedule, the Packers have posted just a +4 point differential.
The Los Angeles Rams have been otherworldly this season. They’ve outscored opponents 235-128 for an absurd +107 point differential. They’re the only undefeated team remaining in the NFL. L.A. is home to one of the top offenses in the league.
Third year quarterback Jared Goff has thrown for 2,130 yards and 14 touchdowns. Todd Gurley has ran for 686 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns while averaging 4.8 yards per carry. He’s racked up another 270 receiving yards and 3 receiving touchdowns.
L.A. defensive tackle Aaron Donald leads the league with 8 sacks and 68 yards lost for opposing offenses. The Rams have allowed the fourth fewest points per game of any team this season (18.3).
As amazing as Aaron Rodgers is, he can’t compete with the Rams by himself. Rodgers is having a great year despite playing hurt since Week 1. He’s thrown for 1,997 yards and 12 touchdowns to just one interception. He’s also been sacked 19 times in six games.
Though Green Bay’s pass defense has played well this year, we must consider who they’ve played. They’re ranked 5th against the pass with 211.8 yards per game. They’ve also faced four of the 10 worst passing offenses in the NFL.
L.A. is unstoppable. Green Bay has shown nothing that would suggest they can hang with the L.A. Rams in 2018. The Rams should win this comfortably.
I wouldn’t buy too much into the head-to-head trends in this game. This clearly isn’t the Rams team of the past nor nor are we looking at the Packers team that’s had the NFC North in the bag for the better part of the last decade. L.A. is the clear favorite to reach the Super Bowl in the NFC.
Green Bay has won and covered in the last five games vs the Rams. L.A has dominated at home every game this season. They’re 3-0 SU and 2-1 ATS in the Coliseum. They’ve won those games by an average of 14 points.
The Rams -9 is my NFL Lock of the Week. Don’t be fooled by the Green Bay Packers name. They’re outmatched in this game.
