New Orleans Saints (5-1) vs Minnesota Vikings (4-2-1)
Sunday, October 28th – 8:20pm ET – U.S. Bank Stadium
Betting Line: TBD
Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints hit the road to take on Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football. Week 8 in the NFL is packed with great match-ups and divisional rivalries. This may turn out to be one of the best games of the week, however.
The Saints won a nailbiter in Week 7 against the Baltimore Ravens. Drew Brees completed 73% of his passes for 12 yards and two touchdowns. New Orleans racked up 134 rushing yards in the 24-23 win. New Orleans was down 10 points before exploding for 17 in the fourth quarter.
Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco threw a 14-yard touchdown to John Brown with 24 seconds left on the clock. Justin Tucker then proceeded to miss the first conversion of his career which resulted in a loss for the home team.
Brees, has thrown for 1,658 yards and 11 touchdowns on the season. He’s yet to throw an interception. His 122.3 passer rating leads the NFL. New Orleans is the NFL’s highest scoring offense. The Saints are averaging 36 points per game.
The Minnesota Vikings have now won three straight games. Their latest victory was on the road against Sam Darnold and the New York Jets. Minnesota pressured the the rookie quarterback and made it a long night in East Rutherford. Darnold completed just 17 of 42 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown. The Minnesota defense forced three interceptions and five fumbles (one recovered).
Minnesota’s Adam Thielen is having a record year. The 5th year wide receiver out of Minnesota State has caught for over 100 yards every game this season. He leads the NFL with 712 yards. Thielen has more catches and has been targeted more times than any other receiver this year. He should keep up that production in Week 8.
Minnesota has allowed 17 points in each of the last two games. Their defense has looked solid in both. It remains to be seen how they hold up against the best offense in the league. Minnesota has given up some big games at times this season. In Week 2, they allowed Green Bay to score 29 points in a tie. They lost in Week 3 to the Bills 27-6 and the following week 38-31 to the Rams.
It’s possible they’ve found their groove. It’s also possible that their streak is a product of their competition. In their current win streak, the Vikings have beat the Eagles, Cardinals, and Jets. Those teams are a combined 7-14.
After losing 48-40 to the Tampa Bay Bucs in their season opener, the New Orleans Saints have won their last five games. They’ve beat the Browns, Falcons, Giants, Redskins, and the Ravens. Their +41 point differential trails is the Rams’ ridiculous +107.
New Orleans is 4-2 SU in the last six games vs Minnesota. The Over in this series is 15-6-1. The Saints are 19-10-1 ATS on the road since November 2014 including the 4-0 streak they’re on currently.
Minnesota has been a solid home team as well. They’re 20-9-1 ATS in their last 30 and are 11-2 SU in their last 13 at home.
New Orleans has played better against tougher competition this season. I like them to keep things close, if not win outright. If they’re getting points, I’d take them. Bet New Orleans in Week 8. Click here to bet on this game!
