Los Angeles Rams Betting Preview 2020

2020 Team Analysis & Schedule

The Los Angeles Rams were first established in 1936, and they are entering their 84th season. The Rams have moved numerous times throughout their history, but they re-established in Los Angeles before the 2016 season.

Los Angeles entered the 2019 regular season with plenty of optimism after reaching the Super Bowl in 2018. Things didn’t go well for the Rams last season, and they will be looking for a huge bounce-back season in 2020.

Even though the Rams had a disappointing 2019 season, they will still be featured in primetime several times this season. Los Angeles plays in the very tough NFC West Division, so making the playoffs won’t be an easy task.

Los Angeles Rams News & Pick

Last Year’s History

The Los Angeles Rams finished the 2019 season with a record of 9-7, but that put them in third place in the NFC West. Even though the Rams were over the .500 mark, it was still considered a disappointing season for the Rams.

The Rams went 3-3 against NFC West opponents in 2019, and they will be looking to improve upon that record this season. Los Angeles was in the Super Bowl in 2018, and not making the playoffs was a major disappointment a season ago.

Los Angeles started the season by winning its first three games, but then they lost their next three games to move to just 3-3 on the season. The Rams lost two of their final three games, which caused them to miss the playoffs.

Former NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey both made the Pro Bowl a season ago, but the offense took a major step back. The Rams also dealt with a ton of injuries a season ago, and staying healthy will be a big key in 2020.

Los Angeles Rams Key players

Jared Goff

Quarterback Jared Goff has put up some monster numbers during his time with the Rams, and he has plenty of talent. But Goff struggled at times during the 2019 season, and he needs to play much better this season.

Goff did throw for 4,638 yards a season ago, but he also threw 16 interceptions. The Rams struggled to run the ball in 2019, and that had a huge impact on their passing game.

The Rams love to throw the ball, and Goff could be looking at a 5,000-yard season if he continues to improve.

Aaron Donald

Donald is entering his seventh season with the Los Angeles Rams, and he is widely considered the best defensive player in the NFL. The defensive tackle had a bit of a down year in 2019, but he is still capable of winning a game for this team.

Donald had a career-high 20.5 sacks in 2018 but only managed to rack up 12.5 sacks a season ago. He has had at least eight sacks in all six years in the league, and the Rams are hoping for another dominant season from him in 2020.

Cooper Kupp

Cooper Kupp has quickly emerged as the top target for quarterback Jared Goff, and his 2019 season was one of the best in the NFL. The wide receiver had 94 receptions for 1,161 yards a season ago and also made 10 touchdown receptions.

The Rams’ offense struggled in 2019, but Kupp was not the problem. Los Angeles will be doing all it can to get the ball in his hands, and Kupp should eclipse the 1,000-yard mark again in 2020.

Los Angeles Rams New Additions

The Rams were relatively quiet during the free-agency period, but they were able to bring in a few big names. LB Leonard Floyd joins the team after a disappointing career in Chicago. The Rams are hoping that Floyd will be able to take off after being paired with Aaron Donald.

Los Angeles focused on offense with their first two picks in the NFL Draft, and both players should make an impact in 2020. Florida State’s Cam Akers will likely take over the running back job, and wide receiver Van Jefferson will give Goff another weapon on the outside.

Los Angeles Rams Key Subtractions

The list of players that the Rams lost this offseason is long, and there were plenty of big names included on the list. Los Angeles traded away a few of their top players, and they also decided to let a few starters walk.

Running back Todd Gurley signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons after struggling to stay healthy with the Rams. The Rams also traded WR Brandin Cooks to the Houston Texans.

The defense will be without LB Clay Matthews, DE Dante Fowler Jr., and LB Cory Littleton. These are three former starters with the Rams, and their absences will be felt in 2020.

Divisional Outlook

The Los Angeles Rams were the favorites to win the NFC West heading into the 2019 season, but they ended up in third place. They now enter the 2020 season looking like the third-best team, and the NFC West is loaded with some great teams.

The San Francisco 49ers won the division a season ago, and they also made it to the Super Bowl. San Francisco is expected to be just as good this season, and the Rams will struggle to knock them off.

Seattle finished the 2019 season with a record of 11-5 and also made it to the playoffs. Arizona went just 5-10-1 a season ago but is expected to make a huge jump in 2020.

Los Angeles will need to improve on its 3-3 divisional record if it wants to win the NFC West this season.

Los Angeles Rams Defense

Even though the Los Angeles Rams ranked fourth in the NFL with 50 sacks a season ago, the defense as a whole really struggled. The Rams were just below league average in total points allowed, and their rushing and passing yards allowed were just average as well.

The Rams will enter the 2020 season with plenty of new faces on the defense, but Aaron Donald remains. Donald can make game-changing plays with every snap, but he will need some help as well.

If the Rams are going to return to the playoffs this season, they will need a better performance from their defense.

Los Angeles Rams Offense

After letting former rushing superstar Todd Gurley leave after another disappointing season, this Rams team still has huge question marks at the running back position. At the top of the depth chart is Darrell Henderson Jr., with a grand total of             39 career attempts.

Barring a very possible breakout performance by Henderson, the pressure will be all on the throwing shoulder of Jared Goff who himself had a less than spectacular season last year. He does have a potentially league-leading trio of receivers to throw to, and a very underrated tight end with Tyler Higbee.

Head coach Sean McVay lost a bit of his shine last season with questionable play-calling but he is a talented coach who, with the help of a better performance from Goff, should be able to make this team playoff-ready again.
