NHL Betting Pick of the Week: Detroit Red Wings at Dallas Stars

The NHL regular season is back up and running after a small break during the Christmas holiday season. There are a number of terrific betting opportunities around the NHL this week, but a matchup on Friday night really has our attention. The Dallas Stars host the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night, and that game is our NHL Betting Pick of the Week.

Dallas will enter the New Year holding a playoff spot in the Western Conference, but they still have some work to do. The Stars got off to a fast start to the 2019-20 season, but they have cooled off a bit of late. Detroit has been bad all season long, and the future doesn't look much better. The Red Wings enter the week with just 21 points, which is easily the lowest point total in the NHL.

Detroit Can't Find Any Offense

The Detroit Red Wings have many issues this season, but their lack of offense is definitely at the forefront. Detroit is averaging just 2.21 goals per game this season, and that won't get the job done. The Red Wings have converted on just 16 percent of their power play opportunities this season, and are killing off just 72 percent of their own penalties. Detroit is giving up close to four goals per game, which is way too many.

Left Winger Tyler Bertuzzi has done his best to keep this team afloat, but he just hasn't gotten enough help. Bertuzzi leads the team with 14 goals, 16 assists, and 30 points this season and is the lone bright spot for the team. Detroit has issues at the goaltending position, which is never a good scenario.

Dallas Has Terrific Goaltending

The Dallas Stars are holding on to a playoff spot in large part due to their terrific goaltending this season. Goaltenders Ben Bishop and Anton Khudobin have combined to stop over 92 percent of shots faced this season, but Bishop has been in net for a majority of the games. The Stars are allowing less than 2.5 goals per game, and that number should improve in this game.

Dallas has a number of offensive weapons on their roster, but center Tyler Seguin leads the way. Seguin leads the team with 20 assists and 31 points, and he can also score goals when the team needs it. The Stars need to improve on their 2.6 goals per game, but their defense and goaltending usually gets it done.

Stars Pick Up Two Points Against Red Wings

Anything can happen on any given night in the NHL, but this one seems pretty predictable. The Dallas Stars don't give up many goals this season, and the Detroit Red Wings can't put pucks in the back of the net. Detroit is clearly the worst team in the NHL, and the Stars need wins to stay in the playoff hunt. Dallas is going to pick up two points in this game, by cruising to an easy victory. Bet the Dallas Stars over the Detroit Red Wings in the NHL Betting Pick of the Week.
