NHL Game of the Week: Boston Bruins vs. Winnipeg Jets

The National Hockey League has reached the halfway point of the season, and now is the stretch run before the All Star Game. There are a number of terrific games on the schedule around the league this week, but the best game will take place in Boston. The Bruins will host the Winnipeg Jets in what very well could be a Stanley Cup Finals preview.

Boston enters the week having lost three straight hockey games, but they have had a terrific season. The Bruins sit in first place in the Atlantic Division with 59 points and are near the top of the Eastern Conference. Winnipeg currently holds a playoff spot in the Western Conference, but they have some work to do. The Jets come into this week with 48 points and are holding a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.

Bruins Need to Find Offense Again

The Boston Bruins have struggled to find offense of late, and it has cost them some games as we enter the New Year. Boston has just four total goals in their last three games, but they are averaging 3.26 goals per game this season. The Bruins have been terrific at not allowing goals this season, and they have a pair of terrific goaltenders.

Right Winger David Pastrnak is one of the best goal scorers in the National Hockey League, and he leads the team with 31 goals. He also has chipped in with 30 assists, and Brad Marchand leads this team with 40 assists. Goaltender Tuukka Rask has stopped over 92 percent of shot attempts against him this season, and Jaroslav Halak has recorded three assists. The Bruins are loaded with top talent.

Jets Need Better Goaltending

If the Winnipeg Jets are going to reach the NHL Playoffs this season then they are going to need some better goaltending. Winnipeg has allowed 3.05 goals per game this season, and they are scoring the exact same amount per game. Killing off penalties has been a major problem for the Jets this season, as they have killed of just 71.5 percent of them.

Center Mark Schiefele has been terrific for the Jets on offense, and he leads the team with 28 assists and 48 points. Schiefele has gotten some help from Kyle Connor who leads the team with 21 goals this season. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck is an All Star this season, and he has posted three shutouts. Hellebuyck has been terrific, but the Jets don't give him a ton of help.

Boston Wins Huge Showdown

This should be an interesting matchup as both teams get the job done in very different ways. Boston wants to turn this into a low-scoring affair, while Winnipeg is hoping to turn this game into a shootout. The Bruins have been scuffling a bit of late, but this is still a Stanley Cup contender. Winnipeg is an up and coming team, but they have yet to prove they have what it takes to beat the best teams in the league. Bet the Boston Bruins over the Winnipeg Jets in the NHL Game of the Week.
