NHL Pick of the Week: Chicago Blackhawks at Carolina Hurricanes

The 2019-20 NHL season is off and running, and there are multiple games on nearly every single night. Betting on the NHL is not as popular as it is to bet on other sports, but that doesn't mean there isn't a great chance to win some money. The Chicago Blackhawks take on the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and that is the NHL Betting Pick of the Week.

The Chicago Blackhawks have gotten off to a slow start this season, despite playing a ton of home games. Chicago has recorded just five points through their first six games, and are in 5th place in the division. Carolina won their first five games of the season, but have been slumping a bit of late. The Panthers enter Tuesday with 12 points and are near the top of the standings in the Eastern Conference.

Blackhawks Need to Find More Defense

The Chicago Blackhawks enter the week having given up close to 3.5 goals per game, and that's just not good enough to consistently win games. Both Corey Crawford and Robin Lehner have looked great at times in net, but they have also struggled to stop pucks at times. Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook are both future Hall of Fame defenseman, but they just don't have the speed necessary to keep pucks out of their zone.

Patrick Kane is off to another fast start for the Chicago Blackhawks, and he is always dangerous with the puck in his hands. Kane enters the week with three goals and five assists, and has done his best to keep this team afloat. The Blackhawks have converted on just 16 percent of their power play chances, and that's another area that must improve for this team moving forward.

Hurricanes Can Score Some Goals

The Carolina Hurricanes are averaging close to 3.5 goals per game this season, but they are capable of some big scoring games. Former Blackhawk Teuvo Teraveinen leads the team with seven assists through nine games, and he will be looking to make some noise against his former team. Dougie Hamilton has five goals and five assists, and he is quietly off to one of the best starts in the NHL.

Goaltender Petr Mrazek is off to a great start this season for the Hurricanes, and he will likely be in net for this one. Mrazek has posted a 4-1 record through his first five starts and is stopping close to 90 percent of the shots he has faced. Carolina has struggled a bit on the penalty kill, but having a solid goaltender can hide those issues.

Carolina Wins Big at Home

The Carolina Hurricanes have a very potent offense this season, and the Chicago Blackhawks have struggled to defend all season long. That is a recipe for disaster for the Blackhawks, who will also be starting a long road trip in this game. Carolina got off to a fast start to the season, and they should pick up two points with a comfortable win at home over the Chicago Blackhawks. Bet the Carolina Hurricanes over the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL Pick of the Week.
