NHL Best Betting Matchup of the Week: Dallas Stars at Pittsburgh Penguins

The 2019-20 NHL season is just getting underway, but there are still some storylines that have started to develop. Some of the best teams in the NHL have gotten off to fast starts, and the bottom teams have started to emerge as well. The Dallas Stars will visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday, October 18th, and that is our NHL Betting Matchup of the Week.

Dallas enters the week with a record of 1-4, and they have been a huge disappointment so far this season. The Stars were expected to compete for a playoff spot this season, but their only win is at the Washington Capitals last week. Pittsburgh has been off to a hot start so far this season, winning four of their first six games. The Penguins enter the week having won three straight and sit in second place in the Metropolitan Division.

Penguins Have Elite Offense

The Pittsburgh Penguins have scored 14 combined goals in their last two games, and they can score goals in a hurry. Pittsburgh is only averaging 3.5 goals per game, but they are capable of breaking a game open in a hurry. Sidney Crosby is off to a great start this season, and leads the team with three goals and eight total points. The Penguins have struggled in recent seasons, but it looks like they are returning to championship form.

Goaltender Matt Murray has started every game for the Penguins so far this season, and he is off to a terrific start. Murry has allowed less than 2.9 goals per game, and he is stopping close to 92 percent of the shots he has faced. Pittsburgh has struggled a bit on the penalty kill this season, but it has helped having a solid goaltender to bail them out.

Stars Need to Play Some Defense

If the Dallas Stars are going to start winning some hockey games this season then they are going to need to start playing some defense. Dallas has allowed three goals per game this season, but they don't have much room for error with a weak offense. The Stars have given up at least three goals per game since the season opener, and it's hard to win with allowing that many goals.

Dallas has plenty of terrific offensive players on their roster, but they have managed just 2.2 goals per game this season. Roope Hintz has been the offensive star for the Stars this season, and enters the week with four goals and five total points. Pittsburgh plays a wide open style of hockey and that should give the Stars some room to operate.

Penguins Win Matchup Over Stars

Both of these teams were expected to be playoff teams this season, but the Dallas Stars have not played like a playoff team. The Stars have struggled on both offense and defense this season, and that does not bode well against a terrific Penguins team. Pittsburgh is trying to make another run at the Stanley Cup, and they are off to a great start in 2019.Bet the Pittsburgh Penguins over the Dallas Stars in the NHL Betting Matchup of the Week.
