NHL Pick of the Week: Boston Bruins at Detroit Red Wings

The 2019-20 National Hockey League season is well underway, and we are starting to get a feel for each team in the league. There are a number of terrific betting opportunities this week on the NHL, but we have found the best pick of the week. The Boston Bruins will travel to Detroit on Friday night to take on the Red Wings, and that is the NHL Pick of the Week.

Boston enters the week with a record of 10-1-2, and they have earned a whopping 22 points. The Bruins sit in first place in the Atlantic Division and they look like a strong contender to win the Eastern Conference again this season. Detroit has earned just nine points so far this season by posting a record of 4-10-1. The Red Wings have a lot of work to do to get back into the playoff race in the East.

Bruins Just Don't Give Up Goals

The Boston Bruins were the hardest team to score on in the NHL a season ago, and they have kept up that pace so far this season. Boston is allowing just 2.0 goals per game this season, which always gives them a chance to win. Goaltender Tuukka Rask has given up just 1.41 goals against per game, and is one of the best goalies in the league.

Not only has Boston been incredibly stingy on the defensive end of the ice, but their offense has been terrific so far this season as well. The Bruins are averaging close to 3.5 points per game, and a pair of forwards are leading the way. David Pastrnak leads the way with 12 goals and 24 points on the season, and Brad Marchand has a team-high 14 assists. Look for the Bruins to score plenty of goals in this game.

Special Teams Failing Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings don't do many things very well, but their play on special teams has really hurt them this season. Detroit is converting on just 15 percent of their chances on the power play, and have killed off just 71 percent of their own penalties. Goaltenders Jimmy Howard and Jonathan Bernier has split time in net, but neither of them has been impressive this season.

Detroit is averaging just 2.76 goals per game so far this season, and their lack of offense could spell trouble against the Boston Bruins. Right winger Anthony Mantha leads the team with nine goals and 14 points this season, but Detroit needs a more balanced attack. The Red Wings enter the week having scored just six total goals in their last six games.

Bruins Dominate in Win Over Red Wings

These are two of the most storied franchises in the National Hockey League, but they are not evenly matched this season. Boston has been doing almost everything right to start the season, and Detroit looks like one of the worst teams in the NHL. The spread and odds aren't going to be great, but your money should still go on the Boston Bruins in this game.Take the Boston Bruins over the Detroit Red Wings in the NHL Pick of the Week.
