The Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning will get going in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals tonight. The Stars won Game 1 by a final score of 4-1, stymying the Lightning’s stellar offense. Dallas has continued to surprise at every turn and is now an impressive 13-6 in the playoffs.
They’re a big dog in NHL sports betting once again but can they surprise in Game 2 or will Tampa Bay even things up?

Stars vs Lightning Game 2 Odds: Lightning -150
The Dallas Stars took Game 1 and to no one’s surprise, it was Anton Khudobin who stole the show. Dobby was fantastic, turning aside 35-of-36 shot attempts, which translates to .972 save percentage. He’s been outstanding the last couple of rounds, posting a .950 save percentage against Vegas and now carrying it over into the Stanley Cup Final.
Offensively, the Stars surprising contributions in Game 1 with Jamie Oleksiak scoring a goal (he had just three goals all season) as well as Joel Hanley (he hadn’t scored all season). Their four goal-scorers had combined for 12 regular-season goals. If the Stars keep this type of balance up, they’re going to be tough to beat this series.
The Stars need to get more shots on net in Game 2, though, as they managed just 20. They need to balance things out with puck possession and shots, or they aren’t likely to win as easily (or win at all) going forward. Dobby can’t save them every game.
Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning didn’t exactly play poorly in Game 1 but they definitely didn’t capitalize on their opportunities. They went scoreless on the power play (0-for-3), lost the faceoff battle 24-23, had less takeaways. and more giveaways. They need to clean those areas up. Beyond that, they need to start finding a way through Dobby. The good news is that the Lightning outshot Dallas 36-20 in Game 1 and if they keep that up, they’re going to be scoring more than one goal per game.
In the past, Tampa Bay has been tripped up by defensive-oriented teams like the Columbus Blue Jackets and Boston Bruins, but it felt like they finally exorcised their demons. They need to look back and see what they did and reuse those strategies.
One good thing to note about Tampa Bay is that they’ve been a fantastic bounce-back team this season. They are 13-2 on the season (+9.6 units) after a loss by two or more and they are 10-1 (+8 units) after scoring one goal or less in their previous game. They have won 40 of their last 52 after a loss by two or more. Maybe that will lead to a good rebound in Game 2.
