Oilers Need To Drill Deeper
The Oilers seem to be getting worse each time they take the ice. Edmonton has lost its previous two games to Montreal by a total score of 8-2. Most recently, the Canadiens crushed the Oilers 5-1 in another lackluster effort by Edmonton. The Oilers were outhit 31-17, outshot 34-26, and failed to score on any of their seven power-play opportunities.
Edmonton goalie Mikko Koskinen made 31 saves in the losing effort, bringing his season record to 1-3. Koskinen is 0-3 in his career against the Maple Leafs, with an obese 5.05 GAA and a .836 SV%. The Finnish netminder has his work cut out for him as the high-scoring Maple Leafs average 3.5 goals per game.
Leafs Stellar On Special Teams
The Maple Leafs have a modest two-game winning streak and are excelling on special teams to start the season. Toronto is 6-for-14 on the power play so far, with the 42.9% good enough for third-best in the NHL. The Leafs have an 82.4% success rate shorthanded, killing 14 out of the 17 penalty situations they’ve faced. Stellar ST work.
Toronto is coming off of a 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets. RW Mitch Marner scored two goals, and G Frederik Andersen snagged 27 saves to improve his record to 2-1. Andersen has a mediocre 3.31 GAA and .881 save percentage on the young season, but he straight dominates the Oilers.
Anderson Owns Oilers
Rocking a career record of 12-0-1 against Edmonton, Andersen sports a 2.24 GAA and a .928 SV% vs the Oilers. It’ll be quite difficult for Edmonton to climb out of its current hole against these staggering odds. Additionally, the Oilers are 1-7 SU in their previous seven meetings with the Leafs in Toronto.
Edmonton is also 0-4 in its last four games when playing on one day of rest. The Leafs should win by more than two goals, and the payout ratio of +150 on that is sweet. It might be worth it to pay for the moneyline on this one as well. Go Leafs!
