Getting eliminated from the UEFA Champions League was just the beginning of a bad week for PSG, who also let Lille slip away in the Ligue 1 title race. Now, the reigning champions need a hand from either Saint-Etienne or Angers.
Let’s take a look at what happened in the last Ligue 1 fixture and how the sports betting odds for what’s coming are set.
Ligue 1 Breakdown
Their 0-3 victory over Lens combined with the draw (1-1) between Rennes and PSG allows Lille to control their own destiny. They sit in first place with 79 points, three more than PSG and all they’ve to do in the last two games is win four points.
That’s right, assuming PSG wins their last two games, Lille just needs to win one and draw in the other to win the title. Of course, if PSG loses one of the two and Lille at least gets a draw that would be enough.
This Sunday, Lille will play host to Saint-Etienne as the favorite -270 at the Ligue 1 Odds. Lille has four straight games without losing against Saint-Etienne.
“We will have to prepare with a lot of humility and concentration. I find that my players have been very aligned in the last few weeks. So far, our season has been magnificent, it is up to us to make it exceptional,” said Lille’s manager Christophe Galtier regarding their next two games.
Also, on Sunday, PSG will play host to Reims as a stunning -1000 favorite. Reims defeated PSG in two of their last five encounters (2-0-3).
AS Monaco defeated Reims 1-0 to remain in third place with 74 points, one more than Lyon, who defeated Lorient 4-1. Monaco still has a chance to win the title, but they need Lille and PSG to lose their last two games.
Now, their primary goal is to finish in third place to win access to the UEFA Champions League (fourth place goes to the Europa League).
This Sunday, Monaco will play host to Rennes with the odds on their side -145, while Lyon also comes as the favorite -275 against Nimes.
Midweek, PSG and AS Monaco will play in the French Cup Semifinals, their other big chance to win some gold this season.
On Wednesday, PSG will face Montpellier, while Monaco will collide with GFA Rumilly Vallieres on Thursday. As expected, both are huge favorites at the latest French Cup Odds.
PSG won five of the last six editions.
Going back to the Ligue 1, Dijon is already relegated, while Stade Brestois, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Lorient, Nantes and Nimes are still in danger. Last weekend, Nimes and Nantes won, but that wasn’t enough to get out of the relegation zone.
Now, they need to keep winning and Lorient or Strasbourg to lose. Nimes has 35 points, two less than Nantes and three less than Lorient and Strasbourg; this Sunday Nantes -250 will be on the road against Dijon, while Nimes +600 will play host to Lyon.
Bordeaux +235 will play host to Lens, and Strasbourg will be on the road facing Nice +260. Bordeaux and Strasbourg need only one more victory to remain in the Ligue 1 next season.
