The top European soccer leagues (English Premier League, Italian Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga and Ligue 1) are totally back from their New Year’s break (some didn’t take one), and we have plenty of information to recap. Speaking of Manchester City, the “Citizens” just beat Chelsea 3-1 and now they are in fifth place with 29 points, but keep in mind that they have played two games less than Liverpool.
Other Contenders
Tottenham got back into the winning column after beating Leeds United 3-0. Now, the “Spurs” are in fourth place with 29 points.
After losing against Manchester City, Chelsea fell into ninth place (26 points). The “Blues” have lost three of their last five games.
Arsenal have won their last three games in a row, in which they scored eight goals and allowed only one. Now, the “Gunners” have 23 points, and they are just six points away from the top five.
To Be Relegated
Sheffield United remain winless at the bottom of the English Premier League. The “Pirates” have just two points and they have scored just eight goals (worst in the league).
Albion (eight points) and Fulham (11 points) are also in the relegation zone. Curiously enough, Fulham haven’t lost in their last four games, but they haven’t won either.
Brighton are just three points away from the relegation zone.
Next Best Games
No English Premier League games scheduled for next weekend. The action will return on Tuesday, January 12 when Burnley will play host to Manchester United.
That same day, Manchester City will play host to Brighton, while Tottenham will be on the road against Aston Villa and Arsenal will play host to Crystal Palace.

Some other contenders such as Roma (third place with 30 points) and Napoli (fourth place with 28 points) remain in the title race after winning their last game, but they are seven and nine points away from the top spot.
Relegation
We have a new tenant in the relegation neighborhood. Spezia have lost four of their last five games, and now they are in eighteenth place with 11 points; Torino also have 11 points, but they have scored six goals more than Spezia.
Genoa (11 points) and Crotone (nine points) remain in the relegation zone. Genoa have won just one of their last five games, while Crotone have won two of their last five games and have allowed 35 goals in total (worst in the league).

Midweek, AC Milan will play host to Juventus, while Inter Milan will be on the road against Sampdoria.

At the Bottom
Valladolid got out of the relegation zone after beating Getafe 1-0. Now, the last three teams are Elche, Osasuna and S.D. Huesca.
S.D. Huesca have won just one game, while Osasuna and Elche haven’t won in their last five matches. Curiously enough, Real Betis own the worst defensive unit after allowing 31 goals in 17 games, but they are in eleventh place.
