Some top European soccer leagues such as the Bundesliga (Germany), Ligue 1 (France) and Serie A (Italy) return next year. Some others such as the Premier League (England) and La Liga (Spain) didn’t take a break. Chelsea have won just one of their last five games, leaving them in sixth place. Arsenal are in fifteenth place; they also have won just one of their last five games.
To Be Relegated
Nothing has changed here. Sheffield United, Albion and Fulham remain in the relegation zone; Sheffield United haven’t one a single game, while Brighton and Burnley are just two points away from the relegation zone.

Next Friday, January 1, Manchester United will play host to Aston Villa.
On Saturday, Tottenham will play host to Leeds United. One day later, Chelsea will play host to Manchester City and Liverpool will be on the road against Southampton.

Serie A (Italy)

AC Milan have had a great year. They finished at the top of the Italian Serie A with 34 points, and are the only team that remains unbeaten (all over the top five European soccer leagues).
AC Milan have scored 32 goals (second best in the league) and have allowed 16 goals (also second best in the league). They already beat powerhouses such as Inter Milan, Napoli and Lazio.
Inter Milan will finish the year in second place after winning their last seven games in a row. They are the top scoring team with 34 goals, and they own the third best defensive unit after allowing 17 goals in 14 games.
Juventus just suffered an embarrassing loss against Fiorentina and now they are in sixth place with 24 points. Individually, Cristiano Ronaldo has been sensational, as usual (12 goals).
Genoa, Crotone and Torino will finish the year in the relegation zone, but all three still have some hope, as Torino (last place with eight points) are just three points away from Spezia (seventeenth place).
Parma also are dangerously close to the relegation zone with 12 points.
Next Weekend Best Games
The Italian Serie A returns until Sunday, January 3. Some of the best games are Roma vs Sampdoria, Atalanta vs Sassuolo, Benevento vs AC Milan and Juventus vs Udinese.

At the Bottom
Valladolid, Osasuna and S.D. Huesca are in the relegation zone, but there are four teams that are just three points away from S.D. Huesca (last place with 12 points). That’s right, Valencia, Levante, Elche and Eibar are dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Borussia Dortmund are not having a good time. Without Erling Haaland (team’s top scorer), they have lost three of their last five games; they are in fifth place with 22 points.
What About Relegation?
While Schalke 04 (last place) remain winless, Arminia won their last game and got out of the relegation zone. Now, Mainz 05 accompanies Schalke 04.
Koln, Hertha Berlin and Wender Bremen are dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Marseille could get into the title race by winning their two postponed matches. If so, they would go from 28 points to 34 points.
Rennes are on fire as they have won their last four games in a row. Right now, they are in fourth place with 31 points.
We have a multiple draw here. Lorient, Dijon and Nimes all have 12 points, but Lorient have scored five goals more than Dijon and three more than Nimes.
Nantes and Strasbourg are just three points away from the relegation zone.
