FIFA Women's World Cup Final

Betting Line: USA -235, Netherlands +700, Draw +360

Team USA has been on a rampage since the FIFA Women's World Cup began. They have dominated on the pitch and in the headlines. It will all come to a climax on July 7th when they face the ladies from the Netherlands in the FIFA Women's World Cup Final. The Netherlands pose a strong challenge to Team USA even if the oddsmakers emphatically favor the Americans.

These two teams have met twice before. USA is 2-0 over the Netherlands. Both matches were international friendlies played at home and away. Team USA won each match 3-1 for a +4 goal differential.

USA is on a 12-0 winning streak and have not lost in their last 15 matches. Alex Morgan has scored 6 goals in the last five matches. Megan Rapinoe has five goals to her name in the last four matches.

Team USA's began the tournament with a historic showing against Thailand. They won that match 13-0, but it was their celebrations that caught the attention of the world as the women were criticized for celebrating each of the 11 goals despite slaying an obviously overmatched opponent.

The American women's competition became increasingly stronger as the tournament progressed, but they never faltered. USA shut out Chile (3-0) and Sweden (2-0) in their next two games. They defeated Spain 2-1 in the Round of 16, France 2-1 in the Quarterfinal, and England 2-1 in the Semifinal.

Christen Press scored early for Team USA in their semifinal match against England. 10' minutes into the game and the U.S. was on the board. It wasn't long until Ellen White tied things up at the 19' mark. Alex Morgan scored the go-ahead goal in the 31st minute off of a Lindsey Horan pass. England threatened the Americans late in the game. Steph Houghton found herself in position to tie the match when she stepped up for a penalty kick. Unfortunately for England, Alyssa Naeher was under goal and saved what would have been the tying goal and secured team USA's bid to the Final.

The Netherlands are on a 10-match winning streak. Vivianne Miedema leads the Netherlands with 3 goals in the last six matches. Lieke Martens has two goals to her name in the last six matches.

Jackie Groenen launched one from deep to send Netherlands to the FIFA Women's World Cup Final. In the 99th minute of their semifinal match with Sweden, Groenen received a pass outside the box and went yard, hitting it in the bottom right corner of the goal. It was the first an only score of the match and it happened in extra time (99').

Netherlands defeated Cameroon (3-1), Canada (2-1), Japan (2-1), Italy (2-0) and Sweden (1-0) to earn their trip to the Final.

Still, USA may be too much for this European contender. If you don't want to pay the -235 for Team USA to win on the moneyline, -1 -135 seems like a more reasonable price to pay. If history is any indication, USA should stroll to a multi-score W in this one.
