Mid-season, Atletico Madrid had a very comfortable advantage over Real Madrid and Barcelona, but now they’re only one point ahead of Real Madrid and two points ahead of Barcelona, meaning everything could change next weekend.
Let’s take a look at what happened in the last fixture and how the sports betting odds for what’s coming are set.
La Liga Breakdown
Real Madrid on the Prowl
After winning “El Clasico” against Barcelona 2-1, Real Madrid climbed to second place with 66 points, one point more than Barcelona, and one point less than Atletico Madrid. Real Madrid won “El Clasico” three times in a row for the first time since 1977-78.
With that victory, Real Madrid accumulated 13 straight games without losing in all competitions. As defending champions, “Los Blancos” are always bound to fight for the title, but they’re also fighting for the UEFA Champions League title.
This weekend, Real Madrid will be facing Getafe on the road. Zinedine Zidane’s team comes as the favorite with a -140 value as Getafe hasn’t won in their last five games.
Atletico Madrid drew 1-1 against Real Betis to regain first place, but they’ve won just one of their last five games in all competitions, and they still have to face Athletic Bilbao, Barcelona, and Real Sociedad in La Liga.
Diego Simeone’s team owns the best defensive unit in the league after allowing just 20 goals in 30 games, and next Sunday they’ll be facing Eibar, who’s in last place and hasn’t won in the last 14 games, as huge favorites on La Liga Odds.
Barcelona fell to third place and now depends on what Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid manage to do until the end of the season. Barcelona commands La Liga scoring chart with 69 goals, but that hasn’t been enough.
“We deserved a better result, some bad decisions by the referee were a big influence in the final result,” said manager Ronald Koeman after “El Clasico”.
Next weekend, they could regain some confidence by winning the Spanish Cup. The grand finale will be against Athletic Bilbao, and Barcelona comes as the huge -200 favorite. Regarding La Liga, their next matchup will be at home against Getafe on Thursday, April 22.
Don’t Forget About Sevilla
Everybody’s talking about Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, as usual, but don’t sleep on Sevilla, who defeated Celta de Vigo 4-3 last Monday to get back into the title race with 61 points.
That’s right, Sevilla is just six points away from first place, and they already beat Atletico Madrid a couple of weeks ago. Their toughest pending matchup will be against Real Madrid in May, but other than that they should be able to win the rest of the matches without too much trouble.
The relegation zone is on fire as well. Of the bottom five, only S.D. Huesca managed to win last weekend, 3-1 against Elche, climbing to 16 with 27 points. S.D. Huesca has three straight games without losing.
Valladolid also has 27 points, while Elche has 26, Deportivo Alavés 24, and Eibar 23. The last three teams will not play in La Liga next season.
Next weekend, Deportivo Alaves will play host to S.D. Huesca as the slight favorite +145, while Elche will face Osasuna on the road with the odds against them.
