The Copa America was about to be suspended, again, but all players came to terms with the organization and the show will go on! We already covered the favorite teams to win the Copa America, but now it’s time to focus on the individuals, and there’ll be plenty of superstars in the continental tournament to fight for the golden boot!
Copa America Betting Lines
Lionel Messi (Argentina)
Of course, Lionel Messi had to be at the top of the list. He’s offering a price of +300 at the Copa America Future Odds, and he deserves it.
The Argentinian comes from another amazing season with Barcelona, which he finished with 30 goals in La Liga, more than enough to win the tournament’s golden boot, and five in the UEFA Champions League.
With Argentina, Messi has scored 72 goals. The last two were on the road to the 2022 World Qualifiers, he scored against Ecuador and Chile, both from the penalty spot, and that’s precisely a huge advantage for Messi, he’s the absolute owner of the penalties and free-kicks in Argentina.
Messi will start all matches, unless he gets injured or Argentina plays the last game of the group stage already qualified to the next round.
Brazil comes in as the sports betting favorite to retain the Copa America title, they’ll be playing the entire tournament at home, and Neymar is their top player. He’s offering a +400 price, and like Messi, he’s the owner of the penalties and free kicks.
Neymar suffered a lot with injuries in the last season, but he still managed to score 17 goals for PSG in all competitions, helping them to reach the French Cup title and the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
With Brazil, Neymar has scored 66 goals. Most recently, he scored against Ecuador and Paraguay during the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, he leads the team in scoring with five goals, just one less than Marcelo Martins (Bolivia), who leads the list.
Luis Suarez (Uruguay)
A very good friend of Lionel Messi comes in third. Luis Suarez is offering a price of +450, and he also comes from a very good season. Suarez not only won the La Liga title with Atletico Madrid, he also finished as the team’s top scorer with 21 goals.
Suarez is one of the best center-forwards in the game, but he has some competition in Edinson Cavani, that’s why he’s not always shooting the penalty-kicks. He’s very good when it comes to scoring with his head, something Messi and Neymar can’t say.
With Uruguay, Luis Suarez has scored 63 goals, two in the 2019 Copa America, and he leads the team on the road to the 2022 World Cup with four goals. His last goal with the national team was against Colombia last November.
Edinson Cavani (Uruguay)
Next is Edinson Cavani, who’s offering a +600 price. Uruguay is one of the teams who have two players among the top five favorites to win the Copa America 2021 golden boot.
Last season, Cavani was transferred from PSG to Manchester United, and he helped the “Red Devils” to finish second in the English Premier League and to reach the UEFA Europa League final, which they lost against Villarreal.
Cavani ended the season with 17 goals, 10 in the English Premier League, six in the UEFA competition and one in the Carabao Cup. He’s also good on headers, and some believe he’s better than Suarez when it comes to dribbling and assisting, but to win the golden boot sometimes you’ve to be a little selfish.
He has 52 goals with the national team.
Lautaro Martinez (Argentina)
Last but not least, is Lautaro Martinez, who’s also offering a +600 price. He just won the Italian Serie A with Inter Milan, and he contributed with 17 goals, only Romelu Lukaku with 24 scored more goals than him.
Lautaro has scored 11 goals in 23 games with Argentina, almost one goal every other game. In the 2019 edition, he and Sergio Aguero finished as Argentina’s top scorers with two goals each, but he can do a lot better than that.
He has been very good in recent years, good enough to attract the interest of some other European powerhouses such as Barcelona and Manchester City. He’ll be Lionel Messi’s partner in crime during the continental tournament, and you know Messi can make anyone better.
Final Analysis and Pick
They all are really good players, but I do think Neymar has a huge advantage. Brazil’s going to face the four worst defensive units in CONMEBOL right now, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela, at least if we take under consideration the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, that’s why I think he should be your pick over Lionel Messi.
If you were looking for a dark horse, Richarlison from Brazil at +1300 should be the one. He has nine goals in 25 games, and he scored in two of their last three official matches.
