After missing the 2016 Euros, Netherlands returns to the big stage and will collide with Ukraine, who’ll be playing their third European Championship, both in succession and overall. Curiously enough, this will be the first competitive meeting for the teams, whose two previous fixtures were both friendlies.
Amsterdam is one of the 11 host cities and the Netherlands will try to take advantage of that in order to begin the continental tournament on the right foot. Let’s take a look at the latest team and player news, stats, injury reports and the Euro 2020 Odds for Netherlands vs Ukraine while making some predictions.

As we already mentioned, Netherlands and Ukraine have only played friendly matches. The first one was in 2008 and finished with a 3-0 victory for Netherlands, with Dirk Kuyt, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Ryan Babel — all retired — scoring the goals.
The second meeting was in 2010, this time with Ukraine as the host, and they managed to draw 1-1, Jeremain Lens scored for the visitors while Aleksandr Aliyev scored for the home side. Andriy Shevchenko, current head coach of Ukraine’s national team, played in that game.
Why Bet on Netherlands?
Netherlands last won the Euros in 1988, but for the first time in a long time, it is fielding a competitive squad and shouldn’t have any problems advancing into the second round, something it couldn’t do in 2012.
Their most recent international success was to reach the Nations League Final, but they lost 1-0 to Portugal. Also, they finished second behind Germany in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying Group C with 19 points thanks to a 6-1-1 record. Netherlands scored 24 goals and allowed seven.
This squad includes Memphis Depay, who could be playing for Barcelona next season, Frenkie de Jong, who already plays for Barcelona, Georginio Wijnaldum, who plays for Liverpool, and Stefan de Vrij, who just won the Italian Serie A with Inter Milan.
Netherlands drew 2-2 against Scotland and defeated Georgia 3-0 in their last two preparation matches. Depay scored three of the five goals, consolidating as their top player in attack and the main target of the Ukrainian defense.
Their sports betting value increases for being the host. The Netherlands’ record in Amsterdam is 56-26-34. During the qualifiers, they only lost to Germany 3-2.
Defender Virgil van Dijk will not play the Euros due to injury and goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen is out due to COVID-19. Their expected lineup is Maarten Stekelenburg, Denzel Dumfries, Jurrien Timber, Stefan de Vrij, Daley Blind, Owen Wijndal, Marten de Roon, Georginio Wijnaldum, Frenkie de Jong, Wout Weghorst and Memphis Depay.
Why Bet on Ukraine?
Yes, Ukraine has played in three consecutive Euros, but they only won one game, 2-1 against Sweden in 2012, and of course, Shevchenko scored both goals.
Ukraine shocked the world in the qualifiers after finishing at the top of Group B with 20 points, three more than Portugal. They ended with a 6-2-0 record, scored 17 goals and allowed four; only Belgium and Turkey allowed fewer goals (three).
“The main task for the team is to go through the group stage. We understand that we will have to play against very strong teams and that the Netherlands are one of the favorites. The main thing is that we have a certain style we are playing, and we will not change that,” said Shevchenko prior to the game.
Ukraine finished the qualifiers with a 2-2-0 record on the road, 3-1 against the spread and over/under. Individually, Roman Yaremchuk scored four goals to lead Ukraine in qualifying.
Their expected lineup is Andriy Pyatov, Mykola Matvienko, Serhiy Kryvtsov, Eduard Sobol, Oleksandr Karavayev, Serhiy Sydorchuk, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Ruslan Malinovskyi, Andriy Yarmolenko, Oleksandr Zubkov and Roman Yaremchuk.
Final Analysis, Predictions
Netherlands is predicted to finish at the top of the group, but not winning this match could complicate things. They scored two or more goals in each of their last seven games in all competitions, so they should be fine, but they need to score during the first 15 minutes to be able to control the pressure. Expect Ukraine to put up a fight and that’s why I recommend you to pick both teams to score in our Soccer Props.
