Tennis Betting Odds and Analysis: Odds Rundown
No. 1 Novak Djokovic
Djokovic is the prohibitive favorite heading into Melbourne and rightfully so. The world No. 1 has won two straight Down Under and four of the last six Aussie Open titles overall. The good news for the rest of the players in the field is that Djokovic finished his 2020 season on a bit of a downer after winning the Rome Masters 1000 in September. Djokovic lost to Rafael Nadal in straight sets in the finals of the 2020 French Open before getting upset in the quarterfinals in Vienna by Lorenzo Sonego two weeks later. Djokovic then went 2-2 in the Nitto ATP Finals while losing to Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem.
No. 2 Rafael Nadal
Nadal has won the Aussie Open once in his illustrious career (2009) and he went a stellar 27-7 last season with two titles including his record, 13th French Open title. Still, after winning at Roland Garros, Nadal lost to Alexander Zverev in the semis at the Paris Masters before finishing out the year by going 2-2 at the Nitto ATP Finals while losing to Thiem and Medvedev in the championship match.
No. 3 Dominic Thiem
The 27-year-old Thiem went 25-9 last season while winning his first major by claiming the 2020 US Open. However, after that, Thiem lost to Schwartzman in the quarterfinals of the French Open before losing to up-and-coming Russian Andrey Rublev in the quarters in Vienna. Thiem did beat Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nadal in his opening two matches of the ATP Finals, but finished off his year by losing to Rublev and Medvedev, although he did manage a thrilling win over Djokovic in between.
No. 4 Daniil Medvedev
Medvedev went 28-10 while winning two titles including the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals in November and the Paris Masters just prior to that. Along the way to those titles, Medvedev took out highly ranked counterparts like Diego Schwartzman, Zverev, Nadal and Djokovic. The 24-year-old Russian has reached the fourth round here in consecutive years and could be the real favorite in Australia.
No. 5 Roger Federer
Federer went 5-1 in six matches at last year’s Australian Open before losing to Djokovic in three sets in the semis. More importantly, this is an event Federer has almost owned in his career. Since winning his first title in 2004, Federer has reached the semis or better 15 times in 17 years. While he’s been out of action for almost a full calendar year, I suspect the world No. 5 is going to come out fully focused on winning his first title since going back-to-back in 2017 and 2018.
No. 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas
The 22-year-old world No. 6 went 29-14 last season with one title. While the young 6’4″ Greek star has plenty of talent and has beaten the likes of top stars like Djokovic and Rublev, he also suffered a pair of losses to Canadian Milos Raonic and some other head-scratching losses like his tournament-opening loss in the Paris Masters against the unheralded Ugo Humbert. Still, if Tsitsipas can take another step forward in his maturation, he could challenge, particularly after reaching the semis here in 2019.
No. 7 Alexander Zverev
The 23-year-old world No. 7 went 28-11 in 2020 with two titles. The 6’6″ Zverev beat Stan Wawrinka and Nadal in the semis of the Paris Masters while also reaching the finals of the US Open where he held a two-set lead against Thiem before fading and losing a thrilling fifth-set tiebreaker. Zverev reached the semis in Australia just last year, so I believe he’ll have a great chance.
Now, let’s look at the odds to win the 2021 Australian Open. The 2021 Australian Open is reportedly set to get underway on Feb. 8, three weeks after the original Melbourne Park start date.

Analysis: I’m expecting Djokovic to be fully locked in coming into this event. While the handful of up-and-coming young stars have clearly improved and the only other man to win Down Under in the last six years is back in action (Roger Federer), I’m going with the world No. 1 to get it done in a rematch of the 2020 Aussie Open Finals!
Pick: Novak Djokovic
No. 2 Roger Federer
No. 3 Daniil Medvedev

Analysis: Betting against Rafael Nadal to win the French Open is just foolish. While Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev are excellent clay court players and have beaten Rafa on clay in other events, Nadal is still the easy pick to win at Roland Garros in 2021. Nadal has won four straight and 13 of the last 15 French Open titles and showed in last season’s tournament that he is still light years ahead of everyone else on this surface. Nadal spanked world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, the 2016 French Open winner, in three quickly uninteresting sets to claim his 13th in September and he’s the pick to get it done again – this time in just eight months. My No. 2 and No. 3 picks in the 2021 French Open are the aforementioned Thiem and Zverev.
Pick: Rafael Nadal
No. 2 Dominic Thiem
No. 3 Alexander Zverev

While Novak Djokovic has won two straight Wimbledon titles and five total in his career, the incomparable Roger Federer has a record eight Wimbledon titles with his most recent coming in 2017. Federer also reached the finals the last time he played here in 2019 and is still the best grass court player in the world in the minds of many tennis experts. With Federer reaching two of the last three Wimbly finals and winning one, it’s just not that much of a stretch for me seeing it happen for the sweet-swinging Swiss one more time!
Pick: Roger Federer
No. 2 Novak Djokovic
No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas

BetUS Tennis Betting Odds and Analysis: Analysis
While Nadal beat Medvedev in the 2019 US Open Finals and Thiem took out Zverev this past season, I’m going with Medvedev, Djokovic and Federer as my top two three picks to win in New York. Djokovic has won a modest three US Open titles (2011, 2015, 2018) and should be looking to make up for his massive blunder that got his ejected from last season’s event.
Federer won five straight in New York from 2004-2008 while reaching the finals in 2009 and 2015. Since then, Federer has reached the quarterfinals twice (2017, 2019) and could be due to make another run at the outright title. Medvedev reached the semis in New York this past season before losing to Thiem in straight sets and he reached the finals a year ago before falling to Nadal in a five-set thriller that was the best match of the entire 2019 campaign.
