The final tournament of the ATP men’s tennis season often serves as a final opportunity for a handful of players to qualify for the final few spots in the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals. This year, however, only one spot remains. No. 6 seed Diego Schwartzman leads the field in the race to reach the eighth and final spot in the ATP Finals.
Top-seeded world No. 2 Rafael Nadal kicks off his Paris Rolex Masters against Feliciano Lopez. Reigning Nitto ATP Finals champion and second-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas will make his third appearance at this event after losing in last year’s quarterfinals against world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals a year ago.
No. 3 seed Daniil Medvedev has won three of the last five ATP Tour indoor events he’s entered. Fourth seed Alexander Zverev headlines the second quarter of the draw, but has a lot of baggage thanks to the recent allegations of abuse leveled against him by ex-girlfriend Olya Sharypova.
Still, the 23-year-old German looks like a threat after claiming back-to-back titles in Cologne last month. Fifth-seeded Andrey Rublev also looks like a real contender after claiming three ATP 500 titles since August. 2018 Paris Rolex Masters winner Karen Kachanov is the No. 11 seed.
Now, let’s check out the ATP odds to win the 2021 Australian Open, followed by my trio of picks on three Wednesday, second round matchups.
Rafael Nadal vs Feliciano Lopez
Wednesday, at 4 a.m. ET
Rafael Nadal -1400
Feliciano Lopez +800
Rafael Nadal – 4 1/2
Feliciano Lopez +4 1/2
Nadal will be looking to register his 1000th win on the ATP Tour when he takes on fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in the second. Nadal has won a mind-boggling 13 French Open titles, he’s never won the Paris Rolex Masters on the hard courts of Paris-Bercy. Nadal has reached the quarterfinals in his previous seven appearances. As a matter of fact, Nadal has only reached one final in Paris-Bercy way back in 2007.
Feliciano Lopez comes into this match fresh off a 7-6 (11), 6-1 win over Filip Krajinovic on Monday in which he rained a stunning 21 aces. Still, Nadal owns a 9-4 career edge in 13 career meetings, but Lopez has won each of the last two meetings
Rafa has gone 22-4 on the year with two titles, including the 2020 French Open. Lopez has gone an uninspiring 6-9. Lopez beat Nadal in a three-set thriller in the round of 16 in the 2015 Cincinnati Masters while recording a 6-3, 7-6 (6) win in their previous meeting in the 2014 Shanghai Masters.
Rafael Nadal vs Feliciano Lopez
While Feliciano Lopez has won two straight in this rivalry, Nadal has gone 4-3 over the last seven meetings while recording three of those wins on a hard court. While Nadal is still going strong, Lopez is fading faster than a pair of well-worn blue jeans. This one is going the distance, but Nadal gets in done in three sets! Back Rafa to get the outright win, but I like Lopez to cover the games tennis betting line at +4 12 games.
Pick: Nadal in 3 Sets

Jordan Thompson vs Borna Coric
Jordan Thompson +550
Borna Coric -750
Jordan Thompson + 4
Borna Coric -4
The 26-year-old world No. 61 Jordan Thompson has gone 9-11 on the year with no titles while 23-year-old world No. 24 Borna Coric has gone 15-11 also with no titles. These two met once on the ATP Tour with Coric recording a 7-5, 6-1, 6-3 win in the recently completed 2020 US open while recording a 6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-2 win against Thompson at the ATP Challenger and Futures level in 2013.
Predictions: Jordan Thompson vs Borna Coric
Coric has gone a stellar 10-5 over his last 15 matches while reaching the quarterfinals in New York and the finals in St. Petersburg. While Coric lost to Novak Djokovic in the second round in Vienna last week, he’s also recorded impressive wins over Stefanos Tsitsipas, Feliciano Lopez, Reilly Opelka, Milos Raonic, and Taylor Fritz since the start of the US Open. Coric gets it done against Thompson again, this time in straight sets.
Pick: Borna Coric in 2 Sets
Radu Albot vs Andrey Rublev
Radu Albot +800
Andrey Rublev -1400
Radu Albot + 5 1/2
Andrey Rublev -5 1/2
World No. 8 Andrey Rublev has gone 39-7 on the year with an ATP-best five titles while world No. 90 Radu Albot is 4-10. While these two have never met on the ATP World Tour, Albot did record two wins against Rublev at the ATP qualifying and Challenger level in 2015 and ’16.
Predictions: Radu Albot vs Andrey Rublev
The 23-year-old Rublev is the young, bigger, stronger, and more versatile player in this second round mismatch and I expect him to exact some much-needed revenge against a player that he has far surpassed in recent years. Don’t think twice about it BetUS tennis betting faithful, Andrey Rublev, the winner of 19 of his last 20 matches, will get it done in straight sets!
Pick: Andrey Rublev in 2 Sets
