We have exited an unthinkable year for sports. There was chaos and uncertainty for fans and athletes.
One organization was able to continue strong, despite some hiccups along the way. The UFC arguably performed the best during COVID-19 and featured some of the best fights of the year during this stretch.
Below you will see some of the top fights for the UFC in 2020. There is not particular order, but these arguably had the most appeal to online betting fans.
UFC 252: Stipe Miocic vs Daniel Cormier III
The winner of this matchup would have to be considered the UFC’s greatest of all-time ranking for the heavyweight division. In this trilogy, it was the last fight for Daniel Cormier since he wanted this one before his retirement. The fans definitely enjoyed it, but Cormier might not have.
In what was the final chapter of this rivalry that ultimately helped define the careers for both of these guys, and arguably the division as a whole, Stipe Miocic was able to outbox Cormier in five rounds to win the fight by decision.
UFC Fight Night 169: Deiveson Figueredo vs Joseph Benavidez II
Deiveson Figueiredo was beginning to set himself up for a great 2020 with a quick rematch against Joseph Benavidez. So the stakes were high, but it was how the fight was won that made UFC news and made it very appealing for this list.
This fight ended in one round and was better than the first, at least in Figueiredo’s case. This matchup with Benavidez occurred over the vacant flyweight championship and ultimately turned into a quick championship fight.
Benavidez would escape many attempts of being submitted and even retaliate with a fury of punches. However, Benavidez looked to be firing out of frustration, and Figueiredo was able to calmly knock him back down.
The one time a bloody Benavidez would go down, he gave up his back to Figueiredo. This would lead to him being unconscious, and Figueiredo was crowned the champion.
UFC 248: Weili Zhang vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk
Weili Zhang was able to defend her strawweight title against Joanna Jedrzejczyk in what turned out to be a monster five-round all-out fight. For women’s MMA, this is regarded as one of the greatest fights ever.
It did not fail, as nearly every time Jedrzejczyk landed Zhang with a combination, Zhang would retaliate with some vicious haymakers. Zhang was in dangerous territory as she ate those combinations. However, it worked out to where she could land some heavy shots of her own and beat the UFC odds with a win.
UFC 256: Deiveison Figueredo vs Brandon Moreno
Figueiredo is arguably the Fighter of the Year with a 3-0-1. This flyweight title bout, though it was fascinating despite resulting in a draw, making for quite the result for UFC betting.
Figueredo saved the UFC 256 card on a month’s notice to battle contender Moreno. Figueiredo opened the fight strong, but it appeared he did not anticipate the chin that Moreno carried.
Figueiredo won the first two rounds, but the third proved to be difficult. He would get docked a point for a groin kick, and Moreno overwhelmingly took that round anyway.
Moreno took his previous round win momentum into the fourth, with a gassed Figueiredo. Moreno was able to outwork his opponent and eventually win that round.
However, the champion was able to save it in the final round and turn this into a majority draw. This fight could have potentially gone the other way, so luckily, fans can see the rematch coming soon.
