NBA Assists Leader

In the National Basketball Association, an often overlooked honor that is given to a player at the end of the season is the NBA’s Assist Leader. This award is given out annually to the player with the highest assists per game average in the season. This honor began in the 1946-1947 season, once statistics became more of a focus and compiled.

To be eligible for the award, the player must have played in 58 games minimum, because we are dealing with averages, all players must have a certain number of games to not skew the average. Originally, the highest number of assists would win you the title, but that changed in 1968-1969.

John Stockton holds the record for both total assists and assists per game with 1,164 and 14.54 respectively. He has won nine NBA Assists Leader awards in his career, with no current players coming close. Chris Paul is the only currently active player close to the top of the list, with four awards. Russell Westbrook is proving to be a player to watch, winning three titles in the past four years.

You can certainly bet on this feat over at our sportsbook – we offer plenty of awards markets, and not just the most popular ones. While everyone is fussing over the top scorer, MVP and most improved, you can bet on the NBA Assists Leader and make some coin for NBA Finals betting.

How To Bet on NBA Assist Leader Odds

While this isn’t a physical award or something measurable, it is based solely off a player’s statistics, so if you are looking at this market from a betting perspective, you will have to keep in mind that the sooner you bet on the NBA Assist Leader, the more likely you will get the best value. The odds will lean towards a player as they accumulate points, and it becomes obvious later in the season which player will win the award, which means you won’t find value betting that late in the game.

This wager is commonly referred to as a futures wager. It allows you to bet on an outcome long before it actually happens. The NBA Assists Leader odds will be released on the sportsbook early in the season, long before the award is actually announced. These opening lines will show you how likely it is for that player to record the most assists per game.

As the season progresses, these odds will change as that player performs. With each game, each player’s odds will move or change depending on their game performances. If a player becomes injured, their odds drop drastically.

Futures allow you to place a riskier bet that will be essentially placed on hold for a period of time. You can bet on these odds at any point in the season but you see the most value when you lock in your NBA Assists Leader awards wager months in advance. Long before the player begins to showcase their skills.

There are many factors to consider, we recommend plenty of player research and statistical analysis for futures markets because you tend to want to place a larger amount down on this wager and it should be important as you will be anxiously awaiting the result all season long. Some sports bettors will parlay this option with a few other awards markets as they are all discovered around the same night or time, at the end of the regular season. This can be a fun way to up the ante.

If you think you’re ready to bet on the NBA Assists Leader odds, head over to the sportsbook and get started now.
