Golf US Masters Odds

The US Masters Tournament is the first of the four professional men’s golf major tournaments of the year, generally considered to signal the traditional start to the PGA Tour television viewing season. It’s the only major championship that’s annually hosted at the same course, the Augusta National Golf Club founded by legendary amateur golfer Bobby Jones in 1934.

With the familiar layout, televised by CBS and its stable crew of announcers, the tournament has almost a family feel to it and typically enjoys among the highest television ratings for a golf tournament every year. The event has a field of between 90 and 100 qualifiers, including the top 60 players in the world as well as past Masters champions and tournament winners from the prior year.

The tournament, despite being a limited-field event, has a 36-hole cut, so players need to have a solid opening two rounds to survive for play over the weekend and to have a chance to win the event. Since 1997, the Augusta National layout has been frequently modified and lengthened, now playing at 7,475 yards as a traditional par 72.

Hideki Matsuyama became the first Asian player to capture a major championship when he survived a tumultuous final round after seeing a five-shot lead cut to a winning one-shot margin over Will Zalatoris following a bogey on the 18th hole. Even though it was a close call, Matsuyama was able to close out the historic victory for one of the most popular Tour players among his peers.

Not only is the US Masters Tournament a very popular television event, but with the increase in sports wagering activity, it has also gained interest in the gambling world. As a major tournament, the Golf Odds for the Masters are posted very early, often immediately following the conclusion of the prior year’s event.

The US Masters is traditionally held on the second weekend in April, with the 2022 event taking place April 7-10, the 2023 U.S. Masters played April 3-9, and the tournament will be on April 8-14 in 2024. Those dates allow the Augusta National Golf Club to play in a way that maximizes the challenge to players and generally showcases the beautiful foliage, especially the famed azaleas.

The first Golf Odds that a bettor will find are futures, primarily those for an individual player winning the event. These odds are mostly the only Golf Odds available until the US Masters actual date approaches and the field is finalized.

Other wagers are also available, depending on the sportsbook, such as whether a player will finish in the top five, the top ten, or make the cut. There are also head-to-head matchups on which to place wagers, normally pairing top players against each other even if they aren’t actually playing in the same group on the golf course.

Prop bets show up on a number of online sites and in retail sportsbooks, such as who among prior winners will finish in the highest position or which continent the winner is from. Round by round low scores, over/under wagers on that the leader will have at the conclusion of each round and even what the winning player will shoot for the tournament.

US MASTERS FAQS

For futures Golf Odds for an individual player to the in the US Masters are expressed in positive numbers, such as +1200, that indicate a $100 wager on a golfer to slip on the vaunted green jacket that goes to the winner will net the bettor a payout of $1200. There are also similar wagers available for where a player will finish in the tournament, and some of those odds can also be negative numbers.
For instance, players like Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, and Rory McIlroy are totally expected to make the cut, so their odds will probably be in the area of -300 to play on the weekend. With those Golf Odds, it takes a $300 wager to come out $100 ahead on the bet.
In head-to-head matchups, odds are expressed much like moneyline odds for team sports, with the favorite having negative Golf Odds and the underdog with positive odds. If former champions Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed are paired in a matchup for one of the rounds in the Masters, it’s likely that Johnson will be the favorite.
If DJ has odds of -160, Reed would probably end up with Golf Odds of +130 or so because the favorite always has a larger odds number than the underdog, which is how the sportsbooks maintain their house edge and protect themselves from upsets. Those odds mean that it takes a $160 wager on Johnson to win $100, while a $100 bet on Reed would net $130.
Between online and retail sportsbooks, there are plenty of opportunities to find Golf Odds and place wagers on the US Masters, whether it’s in the 30 or more states that have legalized sports betting or the offshore online sportsbooks that have enough oversight to be legal for most Americans to place wagers. In online sportsbooks, opening an account and funding it through a number of mechanisms, including credit/debit cards and bank transfers.
Online sites make it very easy to bet on the US Masters, with easy-to-navigate user interfaces making it possible to place wagers with as few as a couple of clicks of a mouse or trackpad. For retail casino-based sportsbooks, finding Golf Odds is also very convenient, with plenty of assistance also available from the cashier in the sportsbook to understand odds and place wagers.
After his great 2020-2021 season, where he won the U.S. Open and finished in the top ten in 14 other PGA Tour events, lifting him to the top of the Official World Golf Rankings, Jon Rahm is the early favorite to win the US Masters with odds of +1000. In the most recent season, which included a pair of US Masters Tournaments, Rahm finished tied for seventh in the fall of 2020 and shot a closing six-under-par 66 in the spring to tie for fifth place.
Just behind Rahm at Golf Odds of +1200 are former Masters champion Jordan Spieth and two-time major winner Collin Morikawa, both of whom played great golf from the spring of 2021 heading into the FedEx Cup playoffs, with Morikawa capturing The Open Championship but then struggled in the playoffs. The 2020 Masters winner Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, who bounced back from adversity to capture the 2021 Players Championship and Rory McIlroy, who needs a win at Augusta to grab the career Grand Slam, are at Golf Odds of +1400.
Bryson DeChambeau, who vividly crashed and burned at Augusta in April after describing the course as a par 68 for him, which turned in opening 76 into a personal eight over par round. He’s at +1800 in the Golf Odds to win, followed by four-time major winner Brooks Koepka and Olympic gold medalist Xander Schauffele with odds of +2000.
