Jack Adams Trophy Lines

The Jack Adams Award is an honor given each year to the Coach of the Year, who contributed and led their team to success during the regular season. The Coach of the Year award was introduced in 1974, and 40 awards have been awarded to 34 coaches. Pat Burns has the most Jack Adams awards with three, winning with the Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins, and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Most times, the coach who earns the honor does not lead his team to the Stanley Cup, but many times it’s a matter of working with the talent you have and producing – they may not produce a championship, but they show a huge amount of grit.

In fact, the last time that a coach who also led their team to a Stanley Cup was John Tortorella in 2003-2004. How the coach utilizes the talent he has on the ice is the biggest factor in determining how worthy he is of the Jack Adams Award.

A notable recent recipient was Gerard Gallant of the Vegas Golden Knights in 2017-18. The expansion team was in their first season with the NHL and was overlooked by many bettors, analysts, and opposing teams. Gerard Gallant led the Golden Knights to a Conference Championship and to the Stanley Cup Finals in their inaugural year. While it would have been sweeter if they won the title, Gallant and his squad proved that the Golden Knights were a force.

Betting on the Jack Adams Trophy recipient is definitely one of those wagers that is just for fun and a little bit out there as it’s the coach we’re talking about, not an individual superstar player. However, futures betting can be fun and there are only so many NHL odds that you can bet on early on to make the season a little more enjoyable.

The Jack Adams award in the National Hockey League is awarded to the coach of the year who demonstrates top-tier leadership and ultimately leads their team to a successful season. The award was first introduced in 1974 and named after Jack Adams, Detroit Red Wing’s most winningest coach. Mike Babcock ultimately passed Jack Adams ‘most winningest achievement in 2014.

Each season, a panel of sports journalists and sports media of the Professional Hockey Writers Association vote on the head coach who they believe proved worthy of the award. In the history of the award, only one coach has taken the award three times: Pat Burns, winning with three different teams (Toronto, Boston, Montreal).

When it comes to betting on the recipient of the Jack Adams award, it can be one of the most simple bets you’ll make all season, however not one of the more popular options you’ll see. You will be betting on a futures bet where you can predict the coach of the year months in advance. The odds for the Jack Adams award are released early in the season at the same time you would see futures wagers for the Stanley Cup champion, Presidents’ Trophy or conference champions start to pop up.

The Jack Adams award winner does not have to be a Stanley Cup-winning coach – it can be a coach of any team. It’s all about how the coach works with the talent they have and making the best of the season regardless if they win the Stanley Cup or not. It’s been almost 20 years since we’ve seen a coach win the Jack Adams Award and a Stanley Cup in the same season. This coach was John Tortorella in the 2003-2004 season.

Betting on the Jack Adams award can definitely be a challenge to predict if a coach will have it together for their team in a season. Traditionally, you know a good coach from a mediocre one, but you never really know how a season may progress for any team. It’s important to consider what a coach has to work within terms of players and a schedule.

If you’re looking to make your Jack Adams award bet, you first need to do your research and determine which coach you believe will win coach of the year. Is a team rising from the ashes, notoriously known for being a weaker team and suddenly topping odds boards and winning their games? Could it be a new coach?

There are so many factors to consider, but let’s look at how the odds work for NHL Jack Adams award betting. When you head to our Jack Adams award sportsbook odds list, you can find a list of the head coaches within the league. The coaches that are most likely to win the Jack Adams award will be listed toward the top and have either negative odds or low positive odds. A favorite to win the award may have odds of -150 or +175. At the end of the list will be the coaches with a slim chance of winning the title, and could have odds of +10,000.

Last year’s Jack Adams award winner was Rod Brind’Amour of the Carolina Hurricanes. He isn’t favored to repeat this year – we are seeing a tight race between Dean Evason of the Minnesota Wild and Peter Laviolette of the Washington Capitals.

Betting on the Jack Adams award in the NHL is a fun way to place a fun futures wager that may not have anything to do with the final outcome (the Stanley Cup winner), so be sure to head over to the sportsbook to check out the most up to date Jack Adams award odds and bet on your favorite coach!
