MLB Regular Season Wins Odds & Lines

Overview

Major League Baseball consists of a 162 game season among the 30 teams in the National League and American League of MLB. Throughout the MLB regular season, the teams will have either a two, three, or four-game series.

There are two series rounds in any given week, starting with game one on a Monday or Tuesday, with Thursday or Friday marking the start of all the weekend series.

The teams in the two leagues, the American League (AL) and National League (NL) are broken down into three divisions in their respective leagues. The two leagues have three divisions: East, Central, and West.

There are five teams in each division, giving each league 15 teams among the three divisions.

Teams in the same division will face each other the most, with the team going against the other four teams in their division around 19 times during the MLB regular season.

That gives teams plenty of chances to see the same hitter and pitchers throughout the season.

So you can expect a team to have around 76 games against teams in their division during the MLB regular season.

The remaining games on the team’s schedule will be against other teams in the same league and include some interleague games against teams of the opposing league.

Some games played between teams in the same division are known as rivalry games.

It will be these games that gamblers will have to closely examine when looking at a team to wager on with for the MLB regular-season wins record. A closer look will reveal why rivalry games are so important.

Rivalry Games

Some of the most exciting games are rivalry games that happen throughout the regular season. The most famous rivalry game in baseball is between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox.

The rivalry between the two teams has been around since the early 1900s and continues today. While the two teams have forgone name changes in their early years, the rivalry has stayed with both teams.

Another excellent rivalry series seen during interleague play is between the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox. The rivalry here is between the north and south sides of Chicago.

Their rivalry series has many different names, including The Crosstown Classic, The Windy City Showdown, and The Redline Series.

These two teams first faced each other during the 1906 World Series, where the White Sox prevailed in the series four games to two.

Ever since that time, whenever these two teams meet, it is a classic battle of which team is the best in Chicago.

Some rivalry games will only be two-game series if the rivalry is interleague play. However, rivalry games in the same league will see three or four-game series.

Series like those can offer more drama and intensity during the regular season.

Those rivalry games can also play a significant factor in a team climbing or slipping in the race for the MLB regular-season wins record.

How to Bet On MLB Regular Season Wins

Before placing a bet on MLB regular season wins, you should go over some betting strategies that you can employ to have a chance of winning a wager.

These strategies will help you find potential flaws in the MLB odds that you can take advantage of with your MLB bet. While no plan is perfect, having a strategy gives you a better chance of having the wager pay off.

The MLB season is long; 162 total games will be played by each of the 30 teams in the MLB.

The elite teams in MLB can win 100 games a season, but the usual average is around the 90-96 mark. A look at the past five seasons can help see if there is a trend with which team in the MLB regular season wins.

When looking at the winners from 2017 to 2021, we see the Los Angeles Dodgers won the regular-season wins record in 2017 and 2020 and were one game from winning it in 2019 and 2021.

Looking at the trend from 2019 to 2021 with the Dodgers, it would appear they are set to win the 2022 regular-season wins record. However, one needs to examine their current roster with their roster over the last three seasons.

That will be one of the most important things to do before making a bet on MLB regular season wins. It won’t be the only thing to do, as keeping the same roster doesn’t always mean you will be guaranteed success.

There are other things to examine that we will go over in detail. Here is a start with something to look for in a team before making that MLB bet on them:

  • What roster moves has the team made?
  • Has anyone retired from the team?
  • Did the team keep the same coaching staff?
  • If not, what is the history of the new coaches the team has hired?
  • Does the team have a record of having the most wins in the regular season or coming close to doing so?
  • Is the division the team plays in a solid or weak division?
  • What are some of the other teams that your team will face from outside of the division?
  • Are their players on the roster showing signs of regression?
  • Are their players on the roster showing signs of improvement?

With all the stats and data that people can access on players, it makes it easier for gamblers to research all these things that will help them.

These things can help with choosing a team before and during the MLB season when betting on the MLB regular season wins leader.

However, there are some other things to examine if you wish to place your wager during the middle or later stages of the MLB season.

While betting later in the MLB season doesn’t give MLB odds that payout as much as the MLB odds from earlier in the season, it does help to eliminate any teams that are out of the running for the MLB regular-season wins.

But there will be additional strategies to make an MLB bet later in the season. Here are some of the helpful things one can look over:

  • What is the remaining schedule of the team you are looking to bet on?
  • How far ahead or behind is the team you want to wager on in the regular season wins race?
  • Are there any injuries that can hurt the team’s chances of getting the MLB regular season wins?
  • Is the team on a winning streak, or are they starting to slump?
  • Has the bullpen been holding up against opponents?
  • Is there a potential that the team you want to wager on would start resting their best players?

The last bit of advice is helpful if the leader in the MLB regular season wins has a significant lead in their division, but the team behind them for most wins is in another division that might be more competitive.

Knowing if a team is in a competitive division or not will help you make a better decision with making your wager. Every little detail with all the teams involved can distinguish between winning or losing a stake on an MLB bet for which team will have the most MLB regular-season wins.

MLB odds on MLB regular season wins work the same as moneyline odds on a single-game wager. When looking at the odds numbers, you will see either a plus or minus sign. Teams with plus odds are the underdog, while teams with negative odds are the favorite. All teams will have plus odds at the beginning of the season, but favorite teams will start having negative odds as the season nears the end.

When looking at how the payout works, you will get the amount shown for every $100 bet with plus odds, so +300 will get you $300 on a $100 stake. Negative odds show how much you have to wager to win $100, so -500 odds mean you need to wager $500 to win $100.
