Australia Advances Past Netherlands
Australia was tasked with taking on the Netherlands in the Davis Cup quarters, and they didn’t really have to break too much of a sweat. They ended up winning their matchup 2-0 to advance to the semis.
There was a little bit of sweat because both matches required the full three sets to earn the wins. Jordan Thompson lost the first set to Tallon Griekspoor but ultimately won the final two.
In the second matchup, Alex de Minaur was a big favorite on the tennis odds, and while he lost the first set 7-5, he ended up winning the final two sets against Botic van de Zandschulp, losing just seven games the rest of the way.
For Australia to win and move past the semis, de Minaur will have to play better. The same could be said for Thompson, but less is expected of him because he’s ranked 84th. De Minaur is ranked 24th and shouldn’t be dropping sets to unranked players.
Croatia Surprises Spain
Many people figured it would be the end of the line for Croatia in their quarter when they took on Spain. However, they ended up controlling their two singles matches to advance to the semis.
Borna Coric is ranked No. 26 in the world and was an underdog to No. 21 Roberto Bautista Agut, but Coric ended up winning in straight sets. Both were close, as the first one was 6-4 and the second required a tiebreaker, but he persevered. Explore the thrilling world of WTA Doha and place your bets on the most exciting tennis matches.
Marin Cilic was also an underdog as he is ranked No. 17 and had to take on Pablo Carreno Busta, who is ranked slightly better at No. 13. Cilic dropped the first set before winning the final two to seal the deal for Croatia.
Croatia Should Advance
It’s hard to bet against Croatia in the sportsbook because their semifinal matchup should be easier than their quarter. Spain had two players ranked above the two Croatians; that won’t be the case in the semis.
Alex de Minaur has to win his match for Australia to even have a chance. He has a 1-0 lifetime record against Coric, but he’s 1-2 against Cilic. De Minaur isn’t having the greatest of years as he’s just 6-5 in his last 11 matches overall.
Bet on Croatia to win and advance to the Davis Cup finals.
