Fresh off French Open Win, Alcaraz Betting Favorite at Wimbledon

Carlos Alcaraz is the current favorite to win Wimbledon, but Italy’s Jannik Sinner is closing the gap.

Sinner is a quality grass-court player and tennis betting markets have him at +150, just behind Alcaraz at +130.

Novak Djokovic, a seven-time winner at Wimbledon, is drifting after his recent injury crisis, and there are no other players at single-figure betting odds.

Alcaraz Favored to Win Consecutive Grand Slam Titles

Alcaraz won Wimbledon in 2023, and the Spaniard is back for another run at the title.

The 21-year-old is the future of tennis, and he had to fight for everything he’s worth to win the championship at Roland Garros this past weekend.

The five-set win over Alexander Zverev proved that he’s good enough to come from 2-1 sets down and prevail, which is impressive.

Being the defending champion, and the most recent Grand Slam winner, Alcaraz deserves to be the betting favorite.

We thought he would be shorter than +130, but money could come for the phenom throughout the month. Alcaraz also struggled with injury before battling through the pain to win in Paris.

“It has been incredible work,” Alcaraz said. “The last month we were struggling a lot with the injury. Looking back to Madrid, I didn’t feel well. The next week there were a lot of doubts and then coming here and practicing not too much. I am really grateful to have the team that I have and the people I have around.”

New No. 1 Sinner Drawing Heavy Betting Support

Jannik Sinner pushed Alcaraz to five sets at the French Open, so he lost no admirers.

The 22-year-old, who won the 2024 Australian Open in Melbourne, moved up to No. 1 in the ATP world rankings this week and he has been hammered in betting markets.

He’s on the second line of betting at +150, and we thought he would be around +250. However, that’s not to say he’s not a great pick.

His tennis schedule has been light since winning in January, and while Alcaraz and Djokovic are battling injuries, Sinner should come into Wimbledon relatively fresh.

The All England Club should play right into his hands, and he has shown more improvement than most ATP players over the last two years.

There’s no reason to leave Sinner out of calculations, and his odds suggest as much.

Djokovic Poses a Betting Risk

For the first time in his stellar career, Djokovic isn’t popular with betting markets.

The Serbian withdrew from the French Open at the quarterfinal stage due to a knee injury, so it must have been serious.

It’s not like he’s trying to preserve his career, so the injury was bad enough to keep him off the court, and bettors should be cautious.

There’s no doubt that he’s the best player in the Wimbledon field, but the 37-year-old has battled throughout 2024.

The heart of a champion can’t be overlooked, especially at Wimbledon, where he’s a seven-time winner on the grass courts.

That’s tough to overlook, and his +350 odds are much better than usual, but there is trepidation with his odds and rightfully so. It could be the beginning of the end for Djokovic, and he is in doubt of even lining up to play.

“I played with my heart and gave my all … and unfortunately, due to a medial meniscus tear in my right knee, my team and I had to make a tough decision after careful consideration and consultation,” Djokovic said of hsi decision to withdraw at the French Open.

That’s a serious injury, and if Djokovic doesn’t play, the odds for Alcaraz and Sinner will firm considerably.
