Will Novak Djokovic Ever Win That Elusive 25th Grand Slam Title?
The Serbian Legend Aims to Make History by Winning Wimbledon Against All Odds
It’s Now or Never
Tennis rumors are buzzing that this could be the legendary Novak Djokovic’s swan song, but some believe the Joker still has a few tricks up his sleeve. The Wimbledon schedule has him meeting France’s Alexandre Muller in the opening round, and it could be a launching pad to his record-setting 25th Grand Slam title.

Defying Time
Novak Djokovic is tennis’s version of the NBA’s Michael Jordan. Sure, fellow stars Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, as well as luminaries from the past like Pete Sampras, Bjorn Borg, Andre Agassi, and Ivan Lendl, have all made tennis news and have been discussed as the GOAT at one time or another, but no one has ever won more Grand Slams than Djokovic.
With all due respect to Jimmy Connors, Rod Laver, and Patrick McEnroe, along with those who made their mark before the Open Era, there is only one Joker, and he’s bordering on extinction. But at the age of 38, he still has one last gasp left in him to seize his 25th career Slam.

But it won’t be easy because a new generation of young guns has ascended, and neither Carlos Alcaraz nor Jannik Sinner will go quietly into that good night. Neither cares that he has blazed a trail that few, if any of them, will ever match. Respect is accorded off the court, but when it’s game time, all bets are off, and it’s every man for himself.
Djokovic’s Wimbledon results show him winning his last title at the All England Lawn Tennis Championships in 2022, which was the seventh Wimbledon crown of his illustrious career. He won the Australian, French, and U.S. Open in 2023.
But 2024 was a year without a major title to his name, unless you want to include that Olympic gold he won for Serbia in the finals against Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz. Understand that only an Olympic gold medal could be considered inconsequential if you are the undisputed GOAT, as Djokovic undoubtedly is.
Sure, there was that, but it’s almost inconsequential when considering Novak Djokovic’s stats and his streak of dominance at the major events. Glancing at the Wimbledon betting odds, we see the oddsmakers at BetUS have installed him as a distant third choice behind favorites Alcaraz and Skinner.
And if we look ahead to BetUS’s US Open odds, we see he is the third choice yet again. But is this for the king?
Looking Ahead
According to the Wimbledon scores, Djokovic lost his match in straight sets last year to the young Spaniard, and it was his only Grand Slam Final match of the year. Only one? This describes how obnoxiously elite the man is, that I can even write these words with a straight face.

But along the way, injuries have plagued him, and time is a thief. It steals youth and glory, replacing them with wistful memories and, hopefully, wisdom. The trade is far from fair, but that’s life, and it’s the only one we’ve got. Djokovic was contemplative when the subject of his longevity in the sport arose.
“I would probably agree that Wimbledon could be the best chance because of the results I had, because of how I feel, and because of how I play in Wimbledon,” said Djokovic, who faced Alexandre Muller in the first round Tuesday. “Just getting that extra push mentally and motivation to perform the best tennis at the highest level.”
I realize some will believe in the GOAT, but I’ve seen this movie before. In with the new, out with the old. It’s the same old story, same old song and dance, my friend. So good luck to Joker. I hope I’m wrong, but 24 Grand Slams is more than we could ever envision when his journey began. I hope I’m wrong, and he gets No. 25, but either way, he’ll always be the GOAT.
