Upsets have been rife throughout the 2021 U.S. Open at Flushing Meadows and we’re predicting another upset result on Tuesday.
There are four quarterfinals across Tuesday and Wednesday, including Alex Zverev vs Lloyd Harris and Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Carlos Alcaraz.
Tennis odds are available for every match, and action starts at midday with Botic Van De Zandschulp vs Daniil Medvedev.
Botic Van De Zandschulp vs Daniil Medvedev
Botic Van De Zandschulp has been a surprise package at the U.S. Open. The Dutch pro had to come through three rounds of qualifying just to make the main draw and he’s making the most of the opportunity.
During qualifying, he won all three matches 2-1, so they were close contests. In the main draw, he scored upset wins over Casper Ruud and Diego Schwartzman, who were expected to dispatch the youngster. However, he now faces an almighty task of beating Daniil Medvedev.

The Russian hasn’t dropped a set in four matches. He is showing why he’s so highly ranked and the sportsbook has Medvedev as a big favorite to progress to the semi-finals.
He is a nine-game favorite against Van De Zandschulp, which is fair given his class. Covering that spread isn’t easy, even if he wins in straight sets. It means he needs to win 6-2, 6-3, 6-3, which isn’t easy.
Because the line is so big, we’re forced to back the Dutchman with the +9½ start.
Pick: Botic Van De Zandschulp +9½ (+115)
Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Carlos Alcaraz
Tuesday, 8:30 p.m.
Carlos Alcaraz is the youngest U.S. Open quarterfinalist in modern history. The 18-year-old Spaniard has come through two marathon matches, but it shouldn’t have a negative effect.
“I’m super excited to be in my first second week in the grand slam, so it’s amazing for me,” Alcaraz told CNN. “It’s a dream come true.
“It’s really tough to play these kind of matches, to play fifth sets. I hope to play more second weeks, to play more quarterfinals of grand slams. I didn’t expect to play quarterfinals here. So I think it’s a really good performance from me in these matches.”
Alcaraz pulled a huge upset when beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round before getting past Peter Gojowczyk in five sets in the fourth round. He has the game to beat the best in the world and Felix Auger-Aliassime is next on his radar.
The Canadian got past Frances Tiafoe without much trouble. Auger-Aliassime dropped the first set before quickly putting away the unseeded American in four sets.
The sportsbook has Alcaraz at +175 and we’re happy with those odds. Auger-Aliassime typically struggles in the later rounds of the tournament, so we’re going to ride the momentum with the youngster.
Pick: Carlos Alcaraz +175
Take a Look at 2 Other Analysis for this Week’s US Open Matches
Alexander Zverev vs Lloyd Harris
Wednesday, 11:00 a.m.
Our U.S. Open winner prediction of Alex Zverev is still intact and he looks like a good chance of beating South Africa’s Lloyd Harris on Wednesday.
Zverev put Jannik Sinner to bed early when winning in straight sets on Monday, which puts him firmly in contention to win the US Open odds this weekend. The German dropped only one set against Jack Sock before the American was forced to retire, so he hasn’t spent much time on court.
#4 Alexander Zverev beats Jannik 6-4, 6-4, 7-6(7) to reach another QF at the #USOpen. Awaits Opelka or Harris.

Lloyd Harris got past Reilly Opelka in four sets on Monday, which followed an impressive straight-sets win over Denis Shapovalov. He has come of age at the U.S. Open but faces by far his biggest test.
They have met twice and it’s 2-0 to Zverev. The fourth-ranked player won in three sets in Cologne in 2020 before winning 7-6, 6-2, in Cincinnati two weeks ago.
Betting online markets have Zverev at -600 to win outright. We like the -6, as Zverev is capable of winning a set 6-1. His experience winning big matches, including gold in Tokyo, holds him in good stead.
Pick: Alexander Zverev -6 (-120)
Novak Djokovic vs Matteo Berrettini
There were some nervous moments for Novak Djokovic against fourth-round opponent Jenson Brooksby. He lost the opening set 6-1 and looked down and out. However, never doubt the champion.
Searching to win Grand Slam the year, Djokovic showed the heart he’s known for. The 3-1 victory sets him up against Matteo Berrettini, who has never beaten the Serbian in their three previous meetings.
The Italian has won just two sets against Djokovic. They met at the 2021 French Open and at Wimbledon, so they’re getting used to facing each other at Grand Slams.
Djokovic always gets the job done and bookmakers agree. He is at skinny odds to make the semifinals and we wouldn’t doubt the world’s best player.
After a rough quarterfinal, expect Djokovic to produce better tennis with the final approaching.
Pick: Novak Djokovic -7 (-105)
