Rublev Chasing His Fourth Title of the Season

An 11-time champion on the ATP Tour, the 24-year-old Rublev has won three times this season and was the top-ranked player in the Citi Open. Prior to the tournament, Rublev won in Marseille, Dubai, and Belgrade. He’s a strong hard-court player, having won eight of his 11 titles on the surface.

As the top seed in the Citi Open, Rublev was the betting online favorite to win the tournament and has faced little opposition thus far. He defeated Jack Draper 6-4, 6-2, in the Round of 32 and followed that up with a 6-4, 7-6 win over American Maxime Cressey. He beat American J.J. Wolf 6-2, 6-3 in the quarter-final.

Rublev is one of the early betting favorites for the US Open and should be in a good position to win his first career Grand Slam. He’s also entering the Canadian Open next week, where he’ll look to build momentum on the hard court.

Nishioka on Incredible Run

Nobody had Nishioka reaching the semifinal of the Citi Open. The 26-year-old Japanese player was just 5-10 on the ATP Tour this season before the tournament and had largely played on the Challenger Tour. He didn’t necessarily have an easy path to the semifinal, either.

Nishioka defeated American Jenson Brooksby 6-4, 6-3 in the Round of 6-4 and followed that up with a three-set victory over Australian Alex de Minaur.

He then beat Karen Khachanov and Dan Evans. His victory over Evans in the quarter-final put him at 5-0 in his career against the 32-year-old Great Britain player.

“I never gave up and that’s the way I think I won today,” Nishioka said after his come-from-behind win. “I just focused on making a lot of balls and to play long rallies. I knew he didn’t want to because he was getting tired.

Rublev vs Nishioka Head-to-Head

Rublev and Nishioka are meeting for the third time on the ATP Tour in what will serve as a rubber match between the two players.

Rublev won the last match 6-1, 6-3 between the two players in the 2021 ATP Cup, while Nishioka defeated Rublev 6-3, 6-1 back in 2019 in Sydney, Australia.

Rublev vs Nishioka Prediction

Las Vegas odds have Rublev as the overwhelming betting favorite. The Russian is favored on the moneyline at -500, and the game handicap is set at -4.5 (-105) for Rublev and +4.5 (-115) for Nishioka.

Rublev should win despite the remarkable run that Nishioka is on. Still, Nishioka is likely to make it competitive, so it’s a little risky going with the -4.5 game handicap.

Take Rublev -500 and even parlay it with a Kyrgios -500 moneyline win in the other semifinal if you feel inclined.
