ATP Eastbourne Semifinal Preview
Cressy vs Draper
Maxime Cressy is enjoying a standout tournament as he reaches the penultimate round of the Rothesay International tournament.
Cressy opened his campaign with a straight-set win over American Reiley Opelka. He then took out home favorite Daniel Evans in the second round before upsetting top-seeded Brit Cameron Norrie in the quarterfinals, 7-5, 7-5.
Cressy served up 10 aces and won an impressive 80% of his first-serve points. He also won 76% of his second serve points and converted on three of eight break points in the tight two-set victory.
Despite serving up one of the tournament’s biggest upsets, Cressy enters the semifinal as the longshot to win the title. ATP Eastbourne futures tip the American at +333 to win outright.
In the semis, the 25-year-old American is set to face rising British star Draper, who broke ground in Eastbourne by reaching his first ATP semifinal.
The NextGen Briton, who received a wild card into the event, beat compatriot Ryan Peniston 6-3, 6-3 to book his place in the final four. The win comes after the Brit dealt upsets against Jenson Brooksby (R32) and Diego Schwartzman (R16).

Cressy vs Draper Head-to-Head
This is the first meeting between No.108 Draper and No. 60 Cressy.
Cressy vs Draper Betting Verdict:
Draper is playing his third grass-court event in the lead-up to the Wimbledon Championships. The 20-year-old reached the R16 at the Surbiton Trophy event and then matched the result at Queen’s Club after upsetting Taylor Fritz in the first round.
Cressy is participating in his third grass-court tournament as well. However, in both Stuttgart and Halle, the Americans crashed out of the first round. So far, he’s achieved his best run in Eastbourne.
Oddsmakers have rolled out a coy tennis betting line for this matchup with both Draper and Cressy priced at -110 to win. It’s essentially a coin toss between this pair.
Cressy is the more experienced player and that makes him a good bet to reach the final. But Draper will have the home crowd behind him and that’s an intangible that is hard to quantify.
Pick: Draper -110
Fritz vs De Minaur
Fritz was bounced out of both Hertogenbosch and Queen’s Club in the first round before finding form in his third tournament on grass in Eastbourne.
Fritz entered the tournament as the third seed and received a bye in the first round as a result. He opened his campaign in the second round with a straight-set win over Thiago Monteiro. He then beat Alexander Bublik 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

In beating Bublik, Fritz improves to a modest 2-2 on grass. Next up for the American is Australian De Minaur, who entered the draw as the sixth seed.
Minaur beat Cristian Garin in the first round. He then took out Lorenzo Sonego in the R16 and Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals.
The Aussie reaches his first grass-court semifinal after early exits in s’Hertogenbosch and Queen’s Club. He improves to a 4-2 record on grass this week.
Fritz vs De Minaur Head-to-Head
De Minaur holds the 3-2 edge over Fritz. But it is the American that has the 1-0 edge in 2022 after beating the Aussie in three sets at Indian Wells – a tournament Fritz went on to win at the expense of Rafael Nadal.
Fritz vs De Minaur Betting Verdict
The tennis odds are so tight that the difference between De Minaur and Fritz is negligible.
Fritz is riding a two-match winning streak against De Minaur. He beat the Aussie in four sets in the first round of the 2021 US Open. He then clinched the three-set victory in the R16 of Indian Wells. This is the first meeting between the pair on grass.
In their most recent contests, the pair have measured up well. De Minaur took a set off Fritz each time, but he was unable to get the job done. It’s likely they’ll deliver another close contest here again. All things being considered, Fritz would appear to be value play at even money.
