Hurkacz Looking For Huge Upset

24-year-old Hubert Hurkacz took out Denis Kudla 7-6 (5), 6-4 in the round of 64 on Saturday before dispatching No. 6 seed Dennis Shapovalov 6-3, 7-6 (8) on Monday. The blossoming 6-5 Polish-born Hurkacz then came from a set down to dispatch No. 12 seed Milos Raonic in a three-set thriller on Tuesday to reach the quarterfinals.

Hurkacz is 8-5 on the year with one title he won at Delray Beach in January. The Pole will look to exact some revenge after losing to Tsitsipas in Rotterdam last month.

“Last year I spent here like over five months,” Hurkacz said. “So I got used to the weather and the conditions here, so I think that’s kind of [an] advantage for me. But each site is different. Each [tournament’s] conditions, the balls are different, but I enjoy being here and playing here.”

Tsitsipas Looking For Masters 100 Win

Second-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas smacked Damir Džumhur around in his opener 6-1, 6-4 before dispatching No. 28 seed Kei Nishikori in three sets in the round of 32 on Monday. The 22-year-old Greek star then got past No. 24 seed Lorenzo Sonego 6-2, 7-6 (2) on Tuesday to reach the quarterfinals.

The 6’4” Tsitsipas is 14-4 on the year with a run to the semifinals in the Australian Open on his résumé.

“I’m thrilled to be playing the way I’m playing. I’m having a great impact with my game so far this week, so it’s important for me to capitalize [on] that,” Tsitsipas said. “Each single opponent has been a separate challenge, and I’ve been managing to find solutions against them.”

Upset brewing

I smell an upset brewing BetUS Tennis betting faithful. Yes, Stefanos Tsitsipas has gone what looks like a commanding 6-1 in seven career meetings against Hubert Hurkacz. However, the fact of the matter is that these two have played some extremely tight matches and Hurkacz looks like he’s primed for another victory.

Each of the last five meetings between these two has gone the distance with six of the seven meetings going three sets. Tsitsipas has won three straight including a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win in Rotterdam last month.

Still, Hurkacz has looked phenomenal this tournament and I believe his confidence is at an all-time high right now. This might look like a monumental upset on the surface, but it won’t be in my mind. I smell an upset brewing. I like Hurkacz in a three-set thriller.
