Mutua Madrid Open Final Betting Preview: Alcaraz vs Zverev
In front of a sellout crowd at the Caja Magica, shaking with “si se puede” (Yes, you can) chants, Carlos Alcaraz delivered the most impressive win of his fledgling career as he felled World No.1 Novak Djokovic in a three-set thriller.

Alcaraz stormed back from a set down to clinch the 6-7 (5), 7-5, 7-6 (5) win. In so doing, the teenage phenom claimed his first win over a World No.1 player and his seventh win over a Top 10 player.
Alcaraz is the youngest player to beat the ATP’s top-ranked player in 17 years. He also made history by becoming the first player to beat Rafael Nadal and Djokovic at the same tournament on clay. Others have accomplished the feat against this legendary tandem, but no player has done it on the red dirt!
Alcaraz will play in his second ATP Masters final this season after storming to the Miami Open title in March. He’s riding a nine-game winning streak after picking up the title in Barcelona a fortnight ago.
Alcaraz was among the top favorites when markets went to press initially. Now, he’s one win away from coming through on those lofty odds.
Zverev Downs Tsitsipas
Alexander Zverev reaches his second straight ATP Madrid Masters final following a three-set victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas on Saturday night. The 25-year-old German won 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in a semifinal match that started late and concluded in the wee hours of the morning.
The Zverev vs. Tsitsipas semifinal was supposed to start earlier. In the end, it started at around 11 p.m. local time. They were pushed back because of the close to four-hour marathon between Djokovic and Alcaraz in the day’s first semifinal and then the three-set women’s final showdown that followed.
When all was said and done, Zverev and Tsitsipas took to Manolo Santana court a good seven hours after Djokovic and Alcaraz started.
It was nowhere near as intense as the earlier men’s semifinal, but it was a significant win for the German. Zverev has claimed the Madrid Open title twice already in his career. It’s one of his favorite tournaments and most successful Masters event.
A sparkling display 👌

Tennis Betting Verdict
Last year, Zverev beat Matteo Berrettini in the final to claim the coveted title. This year, he’ll face Murcia native and local hero, Alcaraz.

Zverev is playing some of his best Tennis and he comes into the final with a measure of confidence. But if the betting online markets were any indication, the prognosis isn’t favorable.
The defending champion Zverev is tipped as the underdog, despite his previous success at this event and his higher ATP ranking. Oh, and despite his 2-0 head-to-head edge over Alcaraz.
The pair met twice in 2021. Zverev beat Alcaraz 6-3, 6-1 in Acapulco. He then beat the Spaniard 6-3, 6-3 in Vienna. Both victories were on a hard court. This is the first meeting on clay.
Predictably, Alcaraz goes into the Madrid Open final as the firm favorite priced at -225. As one of the most in-form players on the ATP Tour right now, having won titles in two of his last three events, it’s really hard to look beyond the Spaniard in the betting.
Alcaraz came into the tournament as one of the top three best bets. And he’s living up to those expectations handsomely.
To do what he did against Nadal and Djokovic, at his age and with his limited experience at the pro level, is frankly unbelievable. He’s the real deal, a bona fide star that is maturing and blossoming right before our eyes. So, back Alcaraz to win in Madrid on your tennis picks.
