The possibility of 10-time Australian Open men’s singles champion Novak Djokovic meeting up with defending champion Jannik Sinner ended when Djokovic retired after losing the first set to Alexander Zverev in the semifinals.

Now Sinner meets up with Zverev, as the No. 1 player in the world looks to become the first back-to-back Australian Open men’s singles champion since Djokovic.

When looking at the tennis trends, it might not be easy, as Zverev has won four of his previous five matches against Sinner. These two have never played in Australia, but Zverev did win both matches versus Sinner at the US Open.

The tennis odds have Sinner priced at -300 to win his third career Grand Slam singles title. Zverev has +225 odds to win his first Grand Slam title.

Keep reading for more on the matchup and our tennis predictions as the No. 1 and 2 seeds clash in Melbourne.

Australian Open Men’s Singles Final Betting Preview

Is Zverev Ready To Break Through?

Alexander Zverev has won 23 ATP titles, but his results in the majors aren’t exactly Hall of Fame worthy.

Zverev was 1-6 in his last seven Grand Slam singles semifinals before getting to the 2024 French Open final. He led in both of his Grand Slam finals before falling in five sets to Dominic Thiem at the 2020 US Open and to Carlos Alcaraz in the 2024 French Open.

Zverev has only lost two sets in the tournament. Dating back to his run to the title in the ATP Masters event in Paris, Zverev headed into the Australian Open by winning 10 of his last 11 matches.

We expect him to not go away easily in our tennis picks.

Bet Zverev-Sinner Final Under 40 Games (-115)

Sinner Favored To Win Down Under Again

The list of players to win back-to-back men’s singles titles at the Australian since 1983 includes Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, Ivan Lendl, Stefan Edberg and Mats Wilander. That gives Sinner a chance to join some pretty select company.

This year’s run to the final hasn’t always been smooth sailing. Sinner was extended to tiebreakers in each of the two sets against Nicolas Jarry in the opening round. He also lost sets to Tristan Schoolkate and Holger Rune.

Sinner was dominant in the quarterfinals against Australian Alex de Minaur, as he lost just six games, and he dropped a total of four games in the final two sets against Ben Shelton in the semifinals.

Sinner has won 20 consecutive matches. Going with Sinner at -360 is one way to proceed for those who bet online. A better option could be the -115 for Sinner at -4½.

Bet Jannik Sinner -4.5 Games (-115)

Let’s Look at The Numbers

Zverev has put up some pretty impressive service numbers over the last 52 weeks, getting in 71% of his first serves and winning 76.9% of the points on his first set.

He trails only Sebastian Baez in the first category and is 10th in the latter stat. Unfortunately, one of the players ahead of him is Sinner.

Zverev could win the battle in service aces even though Sinner is one of the best returners in the sport.

Neither player has lost a first set in this tournament. However, each of the opening sets in Zverev’s last two matches went to a tiebreaker. We like the first set to be close, pushing it to at least 10 games, so the over 9½ games should be among your online sports betting.

Bet First Set Over 9½ Games (-165)
