Halep Bidding for Second Wimby Title
Simona Halep’s 2022 season has been a mixed bag, but things appear to be coming together beautifully for the 30-year-old veteran at the All England Club.
She’s through to her fourth Wimbledon quarterfinal after taking out fourth seed Paula Badosa in straight sets on Monday. Halep was dominant from the first point and never looked to be in trouble as she dispatched the Spaniard in barely an hour.
Halep entered the tournament as one of the top contenders, but expectations were suitably modest after she fell into a tough second quarter that featured a mixture of household names and rising stars, including Serena Williams, Petra Kvitova and Coco Gauff, to name a few.
If there was any doubt about Halep’s chances, those were quickly dispelled. Halep hasn’t dropped a set in the tournament, taking out Karolina Muchova, Kristen Flipkens, Magdalena Fech and Badosa in succession.

Anisimova Battles To Reach Quarters
Amanda Anisimova hasn’t had a smooth ride. She’s had to battle, scrape and fight her way into the last eight. Now, she’s set to face arguably her toughest test in two-time Grand Slam champion and 2019 Wimbledon champion Halep.
The 20-year-old American opened her campaign with a straight-set win over lucky loser Yue Yuan. She then took out fellow countrywoman Lauren Davis, coming from a set down to win in three.
In the Round of 32, Anisimova battled the bookies’ third-favorite Gauff. Once again, Anisimova came back from a set down to defeat the highly fancied American in three sets.
In the R16, Anisimova faced France’s Harmony Tan, who famously dispatched Serena Williams in the first round. Anisimova made light work of Tan in a 6-2, 6-3 win. To date, it was her most comfortable victory.

Halep vs Anisimova Head-to-Head
Halep owns the 2-1 head-to-head edge over Anisimova lifetime. This H2H record includes a recent win at a Wimbledon tune-up event, the Bad Hamburg Open. Halep beat Anisimova 6-2, 6-1.
Halep has won the last two meetings with Anisimova, including a 6-0, 6-1 win at Roland Garros last year. The lone victory for the American came at the 2019 Roland Garros quarterfinals, when she upset Halep 6-2. 6-4.
Halep vs Anisimova Betting Verdict
If Halep plays up to her championship credentials and her recent record against Anisimova, this may well be a lopsided match. Halep has absolutely dominated the American in their last two meetings, dropping merely four games in total.
Anisimova has made great strides over the last year, enough so to suggest that should could make Halep earn it this time around. Whether she can take it a step further and beat Halep on the luscious lawns of the All England Club remains to be seen.
Given the high stakes in this match, one hopes they both play at their best and deliver an absorbing contest. With that in mind, Halep to win but Anisimova to cover are the choice bets.
