Svitolina Headlines Tenerife Open

Bettors get a wide-open betting market for the WTA Tenerife Ladies Open, which starts on Monday.

Headlining the betting is Elina Svitolina, who is hoping to score an overdue win. She has been close this season, but she meets a field there for the taking.

Money for Clara Tauson, Sara Sorribes-Torno and Camila Giorgi has come with the sportsbook, so there is plenty of value to be snapped up.

Svitolina to Turn it Around

Despite being ranked seventh in the world, Svitolina doesn’t win enough tournaments to keep bettors happy.

Given her ability, we would like to see the Ukrainian win more often. However, she gets every chance to perform at a high level in Tenerife.

The 27-year-old was beaten in the Round of 16 against Jessica Pegula at Indian Wells. The loss wasn’t a shock, but the 6-1, 6-1 scoreline was. She was outplayed from the start, so we’re hoping to see a turnaround this week.

Her injured leg didn’t help, which was the main reason for her performance. She has since released a statement on Twitter.

She recently got married to Gael Monfils, who has enjoyed some success since tying the knot. Despite having one of the best men’s players in her camp, she only talks tactics with her coach.

“I have my coach for that. Gael, he’s more like a supporting person for me, for sure,” Svitolina told Tennis World USA. “But, you know, it goes either way. I also support him.

“He has his coaching team as well. We’re not really coaching each other. It’s more massive support that we have for each other. That’s pretty much it.”

Despite a lack of recent success, she is +350 to win in Tenerife. It’s a fair price considering her world ranking, and her odds will likely firm to around +200 if she makes it past the second round.

The tennis odds are in bettors’ favor, so take the current price.

Pick: Elina Svitolina +350

Tauson Victorious

The 18-year-old Clara Tauson scored a breakthrough win at the Luxembourg Open last month, so we’re not surprised at the betting support.

The Danish star has only been a professional for two years, and she’s already making waves. Tauson got past Jelena Ostapenko in the final last month, which was a big upset result.

She played on the Challenger Tour in August, but that turned out to be an excellent form guide. Tauson won the Challenger Chicago tournament, where she defeated Emma Raducanu in the final. Raducanu would later win the U.S. Open, so it’s an excellent guide.

She was knocked out of the U.S. Open by top-seeded Ashleigh Barty in the second round at Flushing Meadows, but she made the Australian work in the second set.

Bookmakers have her on the second line of betting at +550, which is worth taking. She doesn’t have the same experience as Svitolina, but she has the asset of confidence and a recent win under her belt.

Tauson is one of the rising stars in the game, so she’s good enough to take down the Tenerife field.

Pick: Clara Tauson +550

Riske Worth the Risk

Being a 31-year-old in the tennis game is close to retirement, but Alison Riske could provide bettors with value.

The American was beaten at Indian Wells by Bianca Andreescu in the Round of 64, but it was a three-set match. She should have taken plenty of confidence from that outing, and she typically starts at value odds.

She has been consistent throughout her career, including a final appearance in a lower-graded tournament in September. She has had to face tough opponents in the early rounds, but she should get an easier passage at Tenerife.

Bet online markets have Riske at +1600 to win the tournament. It won’t be easy, but bettors can find value in the early rounds, so she is a player worth following until she squares up against Svitolina and Tauson.

Pick: Alison Riske +1600
