Nadal One Step From Semis
Nadal came into Wimbledon with many unanswered questions about his fitness and form. He’d skipped the entire grass-court swing to rest after winning his 14th French Open and 22nd Grand Slam title. He even had some treatment for a chronic issue with his foot.
Despite all the uncertainty, bookmakers tipped Nadal as one of the top contenders to win Wimbledon because of his undeniable championship credentials.
So far, so good for the Spaniard. He’s through to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon, having dropped just a couple of sets. Nadal dropped a set in each of his first two matches, against Francisco Cerundolo and Ricardas Berankis.
His game tightened up in the last two rounds as he advanced in straight sets over Lorenzo Sonego and Botic Van De Zandschulp.

Fritz Unbeaten In Eight Straight Matches
American Taylor Fritz is riding an eight-match unbeaten streak that goes back to his run in Eastbourne, where he picked up the title at the expense of countryman Maxime Cressy.
Fritz is through to his maiden quarterfinal at a grand slam. This is unchartered territory for the 24-year-old American, but it’s a fitting validation of his banner 2022 season.
Fritz only has three titles to his credit, but he picked up two of those in 2022. His biggest title victory came earlier this year when he upset Nadal in the Indian Wells final.

Fritz’s dream campaign extends to the All England Club, where he’s won four straight matches without dropping a set. He’s yet to face a seeded player, having beaten Lorenzo Musetti, wild card Alastair Gray, Alex Molcan and qualifier Jason Jubler.
Nadal vs Fritz Head-to-Head
Nadal and Fritz are tied 1-1 in head-to-heads. Fritz has the most recent win, beating Nadal in the BNP Paribas Final 6-3, 7-6 (5), Nadal beat Fritz in Acapulco two years ago, 6-3, 6-2.
Nadal vs Fritz Betting Verdict
Fritz might have the most recent win over Nadal, but the 36-year-old Spaniard is the all-time winningest player at the Grand Slam level. This is going to be a whole different kettle of fish for the upstart American.
The fact that Fritz comes into this quarterfinal on the good form will help his chances. He hasn’t expended a lot of energy and will be fresh. He couldn’t have asked for a better situation ahead of the biggest match of his life.
That said, Fritz hasn’t been tested at all. He’s been fortunate to avoid a Top 20 player, let alone a Top 10 player thus far. On the flip side, the lack of a test could be to his detriment. Nadal isn’t the kind of player to just give it to an opponent and he will fight to the last point.
