Rogers Wins All-American Quarterfinal

Rogers, the last unseeded player in the draw, had to win a matchup against fellow unseeded American Amanda Anisimova. Rogers was the underdog with +225 odds in the tennis betting futures market to reach her first WTA semifinal on U.S. soil since the 2020 event in Lexington, Kentucky. This is her second semifinal in 2022 as she dropped only one set in her first three matches at the grass-court event in S-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands in June. Her title quest ended with a loss to top-seeded Ayna Sabalenka.

Rogers constantly put pressure on Anisimova’s serve with nine break points. She only converted on three of them but with only one break point on her serve, it was more than enough for the 6-4, 6-4 victory. She had 11 winners and just one unforced error in the first set.

It has been quite the run for Rogers in what has been a difficult 2022 season as she has lost her opening match nine times in the first 15 tournaments she has played in. The 29-year-old Rogers suffered a first-round loss in her first appearance in San Jose in 2021 but has enjoyed a much more successful run in her return engagement.

She opened with a win over 2019 U.S. Open champion Bianca Andreeescu and then eliminated top-seeded Maria Sakkari to set up the quarterfinal match with Anisimova. As her win over then-top-ranked Ash Barty in the 2021 U.S. Open proves, Rogers can play with anybody when she is at the top of her game. She is 6-6 against ranked players in 2022.

Kudermetova Eliminates Jabeur

Kudermetova, the No. 9 seed, was pushed to the limit in the opening round by Camila Giorgi before advancing 7-6, 4-6, 7-5. After taking care of American Claire Liu, Kudermetova upset No. 3 seed Onu Jabeur in straight sets.

Kudermetova overcame five double faults as she saved four of the six break points to move on.

The 25-year-old Russian has been best known for her success in doubles. However, a run to the quarterfinals at the French Open came after reaching the third round at the Australian Open.

Despite losing her opening match in four events, it has been a pretty successful 2022 for Kudermetova. She reached the final in a Melbourne, Australia tournament and in Dubai as well. Kudermetova reached the quarterfinals at the French Open.

Kudermetova is still alive in the doubles draw as well.

Rogers vs Kudermetova Head-to-Head

Rogers and Kudermetova have split two career meetings. Rogers won in the 2021 Adelaide 500 event 6-3, 7-6 while Kudermetova evened the series with a 6-1, 7-5 Round of 32 win in Miami earlier this year.

Rogers vs Kudermetova Betting Verdict

This tournament has been just what Rogers has needed to boost her confidence with a pair of impressive upsets. Playing in the U.S. she should feel right at home with the San Jose fans likely getting behind the lone American left in the women’s draw even if she is the underdog once again when it comes to the tennis picks.

Kudermetova clearly has enjoyed better form and results in 2022. This is the fourth straight tournament when she made it to at least the quarterfinal round. She is also 4-0 in singles against American players in 2022.

Kudermetova has reached three singles finals in 2022 and two of them have come on hard courts. Kudermetova defeated three American players when she won her lone WTA singles title in Charleston, S.C. in 2021. Can she eliminate the last U.S. hope in San Jose?

Rogers has been shaking things up with her upsets, however it is hard to go against Kudermetova in this one.
