World Series Predictions for Game Five

MLB Playoff Picture Today

The Yankees finally found an offensive explosion in game four, rallying to an 11-4 win to extend the series at least one more game. Despite the win, the Dodgers are still -900 to win the World Series, as they have three more chances to close it out. The Yankees are +550 to make the comeback, but is it too late?

Yankees vs Dodgers Betting Analysis

The Dodgers went with a bullpen game in game four, essentially giving their starting rotation and better bullpen arms a rest, knowing they had four chances to clinch the World Series. That went about as expected, as the Yankees scored 11 runs. The Yankees bullpen held it down after Luis Gil gave up four runs, shutting out the Dodgers over the remaining five innings.

Tonight, we get a rematch of game one starting pitching-wise, as Jack Flaherty and Gerrit Cole will go at it once again. In game one, Jack Flaherty pitched 5.1 innings and gave up just two earned runs. His competition, Gerrit Cole, went six innings with one earned run in a beautiful outing for a World Series game.

In game one, we talked about how Gerrit Cole has more of the feeling of a World Series starting pitcher, something that seems to be lacking on both sides in this series. Cole lived up to his ace status, giving up just one earned run in game one in a game the Yankees could have and should have won if Nestor Cortes didn’t come into that game.

Meanwhile, Jack Flaherty struggled in the postseason, and he would have been the losing pitcher in game one if his offense hadn’t had his back. He has a 6.1 ERA in four appearances this postseason now.

This game feels a lot like it could end up like game one. Given that the Yankees were in prime position to win and that was on the road and this is at home, I like Gerrit Cole and the Yankees to finish tonight what they couldn’t in game one. My MLB score prediction today is that the Yankees win 4-2.

Pick: Yankees ML (-142)
