Oh my God, Alex, is this an all-star game here? We know these are two lower tier defensive teams. Well the Warriors, it’s been mainly on the road here where the Warriors have been playing horrible defense. This is the worst against the spread team on the road here and I always say, Alex, they are 7-27 straight up on the road. That’s one more win than the Houston Rockets and the San Antonio Spurs on the road here, so do you think that the Warriors can finally get over that speed bump on the road and get a win here, or is it just so simple, let’s continue to fade the Warriors here on the road?
Alex:
I think it really is that simple and it’s amazing. I don’t know if you’ve heard about the movable object against the stoppable force, but you have a team here in Atlanta that, one of the worst bets you could make all season is laying points with the Hawks. One of the other worst bets you could make all season is the Warriors on the road. I mean, it’s just absolutely stunning. This total is huge. Like you said, these are both have been kind of dead nut over teams. The Warriors defense has been astoundingly poor, especially without Andrew Wiggins, who looks like he’s going to be out for the rest of the season.
The Hawks at home especially are happy to run up and down the floor, but I think this is a great spot for Atlanta. I laid minus three a little bit earlier. It’s ticked out to four and a half but I think it looks like Steph Curry is going to miss the game tonight. He’s still questionable but as this continues to move, that’s kind of the market telling me he’s out tonight. And if he is, again, Draymond Green is already out tonight, things are going to get pretty ugly tonight. The Hawks should be able to put up a huge number, so maybe a Hawks team total over, but I like the hawk spread tonight. I think they get it done at home.
Jay Money:
Yeah, I couldn’t talk you off that. I couldn’t talk you off just blindly, especially if you’ve been fading the Warriors on the road as well. You have plenty of that anti-Warriors money in your pocket here as well, so definitely couldn’t talk you off. It’s not something I’m on. It is Hawks or nothing here for me, but like I said, personally, they don’t play enough defense for me to be laying even more points than the Clippers laid to this Warriors team on the road as well. It is the first game over a back to back here for the Warriors, they do have the Grizzlies in Memphis tomorrow, so you always get the element of, do they want to save a little bit going up against the eastern conference team here with a western conference foe tomorrow in this one?
If I’m not mistaken, Alex and Josh are on the Hawks here minus the four and a half as well. So no official play for me in this game, but Alex and our guy Josh are rocking with the Hawks, minus four and a half, fading the trash Warriors on the road. They’ve definitely been the worst ATS team on the road this season guys, so definitely could not talk you off taking the Hawks in this one, my brothers. Let’s head over here to the streets of Houston guys, H-town as we like to call it. We have the Houston Rockets here getting five and a half points here at the house versus the New Orleans pelicans here, laying five and a half on the road in this one.
If you’d like to go the money line route, the Pelicans are laying -220 here on the road, or if you’d like to go with the home underdog in this one, you can get back +180 on the money line with the Houston Rockets in this one. Over and under sitting at 228 in this one here, Alex. Rockets have been playing some good ball, coming off two straight wins here versus top tier teams in my opinion, the Celtics and the Lakers in this one. But you don’t think that the Rockets have a let down in this game. Alex, let the people know what you’re liking in this one, my brother.
Alex:
Yeah, it’s amazing to see. I imagine someone on the coaching staff’s going to get fired if they keep winning games like this. That’s not supposed to be the plan. I mean, they’re still that bottom three, they should be okay, but it’s an angle I’ve loved all season, at home, the Rockets in the first half. They come out and play really well for that home crowd for two quarters and then things fall apart. Then they start benching starters late in the game and stuff. This is an angle I’ve really liked. I’m going to take the Rockets here with the spread, first half plus two and a half.
And then poke around, there’s a prop in a lot of books where you can take one team to win the first half and then another team to win the full game, so look for Rockets-Pelicans in that. That’s right about +450, maybe a little bit better. I’ve been taking that first half spread and then maybe a quarter of a unit and putting it on that. It’s a really nice look and I just don’t think the market has adjusted properly for the way that Houston just falls apart in the second half of these games. Although they did, they beat the Lakers and the Celtics, it’s unbelievable.
Jay Money:
Yeah, most of the time you can get at least +450 to +500 on those halftime/full times. I know exactly what you’re talking about there, Alex. I usually like to take that when I have a favorite that I didn’t necessarily want to lay the points with them but I think they’ll come out hot. I usually take that with the favorites there, but what you really should be doing this where you think opposite teams are going to get it done. One will get it done in the first half, the other one will get it full game. That’s when you can get those +500s to +450s. So I think that’s a really sharp look by you, Alex, especially if the Rockets are tanking and you like them in the first half.
Could definitely be a Rocket’s first half, Pelicans full-time type of spot in this one. Personally, I don’t want to go against the Pelicans in this one. They were down 40 points in the game versus the LA Lakers and they’ll win, Alex. Usually what I like to do in NBA, I like to ride those teams in the bounce back spot in this one. I’m not taking the Pelicans here, Alex, but that does scare me off the Rockets here and I think they’ve been playing a little bit over their heads in my opinion. It doesn’t scare you any bit that the Pelicans are coming off of 40 point loss, a basically no show and needing a bounce back here?
Alex:
It does, it bothers me just a touch. I try to adjust a little bit for that but it’s hard to consider that over the long term. I mean, every game is a little bit different but there’s no reason that Houston’s going to try any less hard than they normally do. And as much as New Orleans will be trying harder and I think they’ll be more locked in, I always wonder, how much more pressure does that put on a team, especially one that’s going to be trying to reintegrate Brandon Ingram here back into the lineup? It looks like he’s going to be playing tonight so you’ve got a little bit of change, you’re on the road here. And as you know, Houston is a place that a lot of players like to visit, so who knows what they were doing last night?
Jay Money:
They did have two days off of rest as well, Alex, so it definitely bodes well for your play here. And like I say, I’ll give it to you, the Rockets have been playing some good basketball as well here. Our guy, Noops here, Alex rocking with the Rockets here plus two and a half in the first half in this one. Maybe wait for game time, maybe get a plus three there as well, my guys. Rockets have been playing well. I’m going to say I don’t want to bid against them here, Alex, so you’re definitely onto something there. Rockets with a full squad, they have been seeming to ball here for the later half season. Maybe they have tanked enough to where now they can actually play some real basketball, it definitely happens, guys. Let’s head over here to the last game man.
Before we get to some Q&A in this one, let’s head over here to the streets of LA, also where teams like to go and have a little day off. But Lakers here laying five and a half points here, since come down with their news that Kyrie Irving and Tim Hardaway Jr. are likely coming back to this game. You can get, actually, four and a half now if you do like the Lakers in this one. Mavs here getting back five and a half on the road in this one. If you’d like to go to money line route here, Lakers are laying -225 when the money line in this one, or you can go with the underdog Mavs in this one to get the +185 money line for the win in this one. Over and under sitting at 226 in this game, Alex.
I know me personally, I like the Lakers to start this one early. The spread has come down to minus one and a half in the first quarter, but my best NBA bet of the day is on the Lakers in the first quarter, minus one and a half. They’re 6-0 against the spread, coming off a loss in the first quarter. I think they make it 7-0 here tonight. Coming back home, coming off a loss versus those Rockets as well, Alex. I expect the Lakers to come out here hot, be up by at least four to five points at the end of the first quarter. Bounce back Jay spot here. Lakers first quarter minus one and a half here, Alex. Could you talk me off and do you like any play in this game?
Alex:
No, I think that that’s a really nice angle. The Lakers have been a good first quarter team all year. The Mavericks are not and they haven’t been. Last year they were a bad first quarter team, this year they are. For whatever reason, they get into these games very, very slowly. Now, things are a little bit different without Luca. Like you said, it looks like Kyrie Irving’s going to be playing tonight, which makes a ton of sense. He’s not going to miss a game in LA, he loves being under the big spotlight and stuff, so I think we’re going to get a good effort out of him. But I’m not sure it matters. This Lakers team has been incredibly good defensively, especially since the trade deadline, getting some pieces. And I know it’s an amazing concept, instead of Russell Westbrook, let’s put some athletes and shooters on the floor here.
And Anthony Davis is healthy. I mean, he has just been an elite defensive player out there on the floor. Not only is a perimeter defender, but as a rim protector as well. That’s the angle for me tonight, I like this under quite a bit. The Lakers have been a great under team these last couple weeks and again, I think the market has failed to catch up to the fact that this is a really great defensive team and I like the match up. I don’t think that there’s really too many problems here. Kyrie Irving will get his like he always does, but there’s plenty of length here, there’s plenty of people that can switch that are going to slow him down. I’ll take under 226 but I like that first quarter look as well.
Jay Money:
Yeah, this is my best bet of the day for sure. I’ll be honest, I didn’t really love the card here, but I knew that I was going to find some type of way to get on the Lakers here. I know that this is a bounce back spot. This is a surging team, they are trying everything that they can to make the playoffs as well. Must win doesn’t always mean that you’re going to win, but I do expect that regardless if they win or not, I like the Lakers to come out in this one. And like I say when I look back at it, coming off a loss, 6-0 against the spread last six, yeah, they’re keeping it going here versus a somewhat weak Mavs team, in my opinion. Also coming off an overtime win and when you throw Kyrie and Tim Hardaway Jr. back in the fold, it’s an adjustment period as well.
Getting back used to playing with those guys, the ball was kind of popping a lot whenever they were out. Now you get sticking a little bit more with Kyrie Irving in there. Not the best defender as well. I expect the Lakers to come in here pissed, coming off that horrible effort versus the Houston Rockets. Our guy Alex is taking the under 226 in this one official, and give me the Lakers here in the first quarter. It’s minus two for the show, but you can’t get minus one and a halves out there, guys. Basically across the books here, it should be minus one and half here, even at BetUS sportsbook. Give me the Lakers here in the first quarter minus one and half. What’s up, guys? Y’all don’t want to put my play up or what? But it’s all good.
Give me Lakers in the first quarter, minus one and a half and Alex, rocking with the under 226 in this one. Guys, let’s go over here and get to some Q&A in this one. We have some great questions in the chat and we have plenty of time as well, so put your questions in the chat. We can get to about six or seven questions today. First question up up from our guy, Luis, in the chat says, Q&A, I’m expecting he’s saying Jonas Valanciunas boards in this one, Noops. I’ll be honest, I didn’t look at any props today. It was already a tough enough card, but what do you think about just the opposing center going up against the Rockets for their rebound prop?
Alex:
Yeah, it’s been a good angle all year. Even with Sengun playing, look, the total’s only seven and a half. It’s a cheap seven and a half here, so I like that and maybe put points and rebounds together. What we’ve seen with this Houston team, they really struggle at the rim. There’s not a strong defensive presence there at center, so I like that. Valanciunas rebounds over and go ahead and do the points and rebounds as well, I think.
Jay Money:
Yeah, that’s a good look there. Like I say, it’s really one of those where you don’t even necessarily have to look at Jonas Valanciunas, you look at how the rockets do against centers as well. We know that they don’t really have… I mean, I know Sengun is a really good offensive player, he’s not the best defensive player though, I must say, and he’s not the tallest guy as well. Believe he’s somewhere around like 6’9″, 6’10”, something like that. I know he’s not seven foot, so Valanciunas could definitely on own the boards in this one. My only problem is they have a lot of guys that can rebound the ball. Brandon Ingram, tall guys, Irv Jones. Trey Murphy can soar with the best of them as well and CJ McCullum will try to get in there and get some boards as well, so that’s my only problem with that one.
Basically, their whole starting five is going to be hunting for rebounds. It’s not kind of like in Embiid over there where he’s the main guy getting the rebound rebounds. Next question up, our guy [inaudible 00:16:13] in the chat. Any player props for 76ers versus Hornets? That leads me, just like I said, Embiid, he’s the guy that’s going for MVP over there, Noops. I know you’re a Philly 76ers guy. And Bead is winning the MVP, he’s winning it, but I think he goes off tonight. I actually like Embiid props here quite a bit, to be honest. If there was any prop that I’d like tonight, Embiid points, points and rebounds, all that good stuff, PRA. Alex, I don’t know if you see what I’m seeing, but it looks like the team is also helping him out with the MVP race as will. He had 18 boards in the last game with 36 points. And the last time he faced off against the Hornets, he had 53 points. Embiid will go off once again tonight in this one, Alex, do you agree?
Alex:
I do and I’m generally hesitant to bet overs for star players and teams that are in a blowout spot. I mean, the Sixers should just waste the Hornets tonight, this game should be an absolute blowout. But like you said, you got to take into account the fact that the Sixers are doing everything they can to get him this MVP and he should destroy this team again. He had 50 points last time so I think you take his points total and just ladder that up. You don’t have to play 50, but play over 40, play over 45. Something goofy like that. His point total, I’m looking at 35 and a half there, his rebounds are 11 and a half. I think you take over both of those numbers easily.
Jay Money:
I got a question for you, Alex, this is a question for me. I can’t ask that, I’m sorry. Well, put it like this, can you ladder the props on BetUS?
Alex:
If you go around and look when you get closer to the game, they have a few sections of the player prop where you know it’s 20+, 25+ for a few guys. So go ahead and take a look. I’m pretty sure that you can still do that.
Jay Money:
I gotcha. I just always wanted to know, I always see people laddering plays and props and I’ve never really seen where to do that, to be honest with you. But that’s a good point there on that. They’ll check us out, BetUS sports book for those ladders, my guys. Next question up from JG in the chat, what about Chicago Bulls on the money line here? They’re laying -145 at BetUS right now, Alex. Any thoughts on Bulls versus Wolves?
Alex:
Yeah, it does. I like that, it’s very poetic there. I lean towards the Wolves. Chicago’s been really good, this is a hard game to handicap. The Bulls this year, they’ve been good against good teams, bad against bad teams in the last few weeks. I really like some of the changes that they’ve made to their starting lineup. Beverly isn’t one of the best players, but it allows Dosunmu to go back to that second unit where he is more effective. Bringing Caruso in and putting Williams back in that second unit has been a great shift for them and more defense, allowing Levine a little more space to do what he wants offensively here. And as good as they’ve been at home, I think the two and a half, we’re looking at maybe a little too much, the minus 45 and the money line again, maybe just a touch too much. So lean Wolves, but happy to pass on that.
Jay Money:
Yeah, I’m right there with you. And the Wolves, actually since the Conley trade, they’ve been good on the road and been horrible at the house. So for whatever reason, I believe they’re 0-5 straight up at the house since that trade, my guys. Really tough for me to kind of figure out the Wolves right now, especially with the new roster. It’s a tough one for me but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bulls did get a win here.
They are in must win mode, that doesn’t mean they are going to win. They’re only 1-5 in ATS last six games, but I would say that the Bulls probably need this game a little bit more in my opinion. Could not talk you off Bulls money line there my guy, but it’s not something I’m betting. Next question up from the same guy, JG in the chat, I’m pretty sure it’s a guy. I’m not sure how many women are watching this show, but no disrespect if you are. But is 248 too many points for the ATL game there, Alex?
Alex:
No, we talked about this earlier a little bit, so go ahead and scroll back if he wants some deeper thoughts on this. But again, the Warriors have been terrible defensively without Wiggins, he’s not going to play tonight. Draymond is out tonight so there’s your two best defensive pieces out. The Hawks have been putting up huge numbers all year. Some of the best bets you could make this year are Hawks and Warriors over. Put it all together, that’s why the number is big and it might not be big enough but it’s always hard to tell when you get to these fringes of huge and small numbers.
Jay Money:
Yeah, I’m right there with you. Only looking towards the over on that one, guys. Looks like that’s all the questions that we had in the chat. We did break down our top games as well and always say if you did come in late to the show, you can always scroll back as well. But it is time to recap our best bets as well, guys. I notice that’s what a lot of people are just worried about, “Oh whatever. Whatever you guys betting, right?” Our guy Josh, unfortunately couldn’t make it today, but he’s rocking with the Cavs, minus is five and a half up against the Wizards in that one. And then the Hawks, he’s also riding with the Hawks, minus four and a half playing up against the Warriors. And give me the Lakers here.
First quarter minus the one and a half. It’s two, four to show, guys, but my money’s on the minus one and a half. That’s the current number right now. Give me the Lakers in the first quarter. It’s my top spot of the day by a mile, 6-0 against the spread last six games coming off of a loss in that one, guys. And our guy Alex is also rocking with the Hawks, minus four and a half. He’s taking the Rockets first half, plus two and a half. He ain’t scared and he’s also rocking with the Mavs-Lakers under 226 as well in that one, guys.
Some great games on the show. It was unfortunate our guy Josh couldn’t make it today, but it’s still a great show with myself and Alex as well. Man, make sure you guys are following us on Twitter.
