College Basketball: Expert Picks, Odds and Predictions

TJ:

Well, welcome back off the weekend. We are the American’s favorite sportsbook BetUs. Great to be back with you on the BetUS College Basketball Show. I am the somewhat capable host. Our handicappers are back aboard. Corby Craig and mid-major Matt, Matt Josephs. Boys, good to be back with you off of what was a very busy weekend, a very busy Sunday with a lot of action, top 25, a lot of upsets. Hello Nebraska, beating Creighton at Creighton. Hello Northwestern in Big 10 play beating Michigan State at Michigan State on Sunday. So we saw a lot this weekend. Mid-major Matt, good to be back with you here. Thoughts off the weekend before we get rolling on a Monday?

Matt:

All right, three thoughts. One, the net numbers came out today. Louisville has the third lowest in the country, which I find fascinating. Two, I had the rare good Saturday in that Temple got a nice window over VCU at home. Syracuse’s getting the road win at Notre Dame and three, starting to get a little worried. Obviously Bryant can’t postponing their game tomorrow. We’ve seen some other small postponements here and there. I don’t think it’s COVID related. I think it’s more the flu related, but give me PTSD from a couple years ago in college basketball.

TJ:

Yeah, the flu, you don’t know. I mean the flu is out and everywhere and we’ll just have to wait and see how that factors in along with COVID-19. Here we go again, like you said, here we go again of are we playing these games and we do the show. Corby, you haven’t been part of this welcome off the weekend, but we would sit here, do the show, analyze the games, and find out like during the show or five minutes after the show, okay, they’re not playing now tonight because of all of this. It just happens that way sometime. Corby, how you feeling on a Monday and any thoughts off the weekend? Yeah,

Corby:

Yeah, two things. So first off, the Blazers couldn’t cover verse South Alabama. That was quite disappointing. I was at that game, it was a fun one. It was teddy bear toss. So we all threw bears down at halftime, but a good time. Second thing is, I think we talked about it probably the first week on the show, but I had Sundays matchup Louisville verse Miami circled for probably way too long and it looked good. Miami looks like a really good basketball team and Louisville looks just as bad as we thought.

TJ:

They are now oh and eight staring down the barrel of being oh and nine as they play Florida state. Now they did. I believe the Florida State game is at home this coming weekend and they right there is Cal The Bears lost last night to now drop to oh and nine. You got Louisville oh eight Cal oh nine to begin the season in Power six conferences. That’s pretty incredible as we come off the weekend. All right, so let’s take a look at our records. Coming into this, a new week, the first full week of December here on the show you will notice mid-major Matt right at the 500 mark. Same thing. Now Corby Craig above that 500 mark by four show overall is above the 500 mark as well. So we’ve done pretty well. We’ve done pretty well by you so far to date. And what is interesting is it is a light Monday.

There are only seven total division one games or games involving division one teams and guess what kids, we’re going to talk about all of them here on the show. So we’re glad you’re with us on the Live Monday show. There may not be a necessary official play on every game, but we’re going to talk about every game here today. So this is a rarity where you’re going to get every game that’s on the card and something from the handicappers about those. We’ll move it along fairly quickly. Again, if you haven’t done it already, live here with us, hit the like button, hit the bell, make sure you’re subscribing to the channel here. BetUS College Basketball. Share us out. We’re here Monday through Friday at 11:00 AM Eastern time. Get questions and answers ready because we’ll get those going as the games are all being talked about.

Again, you will see this. As we’re talking about the game, pop in a question and our guys at BetUS Fabian and Company will put those up as we go along. Boys, are you ready? Good to go? Let’s go game number one and see what we have on the docket. Again we’re going with every game for a Monday night, including IUPUI and Green Bay. This one in Horizon League action and this is actually an afternoon game of all things. This is actually coming up, do I see this correctly, in an hour afternoon basketball for IUPUI and the Green Bay Phoenix. The line is six and a half for Green Bay. Our total is 126. Mid-major Matt, some thoughts on some afternoon basketball in the Horizon League real quick?

Matt:

Well, I mean nothing better than an oh and seven and a one and seven teams 358 and 363 in the Ken Palm rankings. It’s funny ’cause I tried to-

TJ:

As we come back on camera, do we all three want to hold our noses while we talk about this game? I’m not sure I’ll hold mine, I’m just being the spoof. Go ahead, Matt.

Matt:

I tried to do the over in a game like this before, two bad, bad, bad defenses, but two hideous offenses. You can’t take an over with the IUPUI 61-53, their last two games scoring. I mean I would take an under if I was more under based, but even so by some chance if either of these teams catches lightning in a bottle and start scoring that under could be in trouble. But I would lean under here with these two bad teams.

TJ:

The real question is if law enforcement was having trouble getting the facts out of whatever suspect and they were doing the interrogation tactics, would they force them to watch this game so they would give up all the details on their crime? I wonder. Corby Craig, any thoughts before we move off of IUPUI and Green Bay quickly?

Corby:

I’m going to enjoy embedding IUPUI team total unders. That’s probably where I would lean here. It’s 61 and a half, I believe that’s a number two high. Matt references oh and seven, one and seven. But the one win was versus a 91 team in Franklin, so it’s more like oh and seven, oh and seven. I completely agree. I probably won’t touch this by any means because the both sides are awful, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see 70 a piece or 50 a piece. But the under is my side.

TJ:

My blinking lights stay away from this game. There’s six other games. Stay away from this game. So there you go. There’s game number one on the docket. We will move on and move on quickly to the next of the seven that are coming on this Monday and that is Albany and UMass. UMass laying 15 and a half. A lot of people may not realize that Frank Martin is now the UMass coach, the former South Carolina coach. The total is 139 and a half. Albany has been an NCA tournament program over the years, over the past 10 or 15 years. They’ve been in a couple of times, the Great Danes. Look at that Great Dane in the logo. Corby Craig, we’re going to come back to you. Any thoughts if no official play on this one coming up tonight at UMass?

Corby:

Yeah, Albany is not the team that we’ve seen in years past. They ranked 329 in Ken Palm ratings. They also just got absolutely worked by an American team that didn’t have their leading score. I believe they were out two players in that game on the road at UMass. I would have to lean UMass, but it’s not anything that I’m just rushing the gun to bet by any means.

TJ:

Speaking of bad basketball, Matt Josephs, I used to be the play-by-play guy here in Tampa Bay in West Central Florida for the University of South Florida for the USF Bulls. The Bulls have not been good for a while in basketball. They’re not good this year. UMass came into Tampa and beat them recently so they got a road win. Any thoughts on Frank Martin’s team? Big favorite at home on a Monday if no official play.

Matt:

The only thing I looked at here briefly was the Umass’s team total over. If you look, somehow Albany gave 88 points in a 59 possession game against American without American having one of their better players in the lineup. They get up 99 at St Joe. So those were concerns. But then I look at UMass and their offense has been rather underwhelming in terms of points. They’ve only gone over the total that it was just once, that central Connecticut game and plus this is their first home game in over almost a month. So that was a concern for me. So if I was to play anything in this game, I would probably look at the UMass team total over. They should have some fun against Albany in this one.

TJ:

Okay. So again, a couple of quick thoughts on games. We will get to a couple of official plays here in a little bit and we will get to some questions and answers. If you’ve got questions or answers about the games that you see on the schedule, get those to us while we’re talking about them, whether it’s a total, a first half total, whatever the case is for the lines. Game number three on a Monday, not necessarily an official play, but we’re going through every game on an early light Monday schedule in December is UMass LIU. Not to be confused with UMass Amherst, this is the lighter version of it. UMass Lowell at LIU, long Island University, UMass Lowell is a 16 point road favorite. Our total is 144 and a half. Mid-major Matt, back to you. A thought here if no play.

Matt:

I was really close to taking the over in this game. You look at this, there’s two really good pace teams. Umass Lowell, the whole 71 in Chem Palm and LIU is 47. They play no defense. The problem is that LIU’s offense is so bad and UMass Lowell’s defense is good and they’ve actually had their defense travel. 62 allowed at Columbia, 62 allowed at Brown, 59 allowed at Sacred Heart. So I leaned to the over thinking that the pace was going to be there, but UMass Lowell’s defense scared me here and the fact that LIU just can’t score. So then I’d be asking the River Hawks to do a lot of work for me. And by the way, Abdul Kulabali, the transfer didn’t play last game for the River Hawks. He’s a rather important piece for that team. So in the end, I didn’t play anything but I looked at the over in this one.

TJ:

Corby Craig, thoughts, UMass Lowell and LIU if no play, anything? Not sure that we’re hearing Corby, maybe I’m not hearing him.

Corby:

No, that was definitely me.

TJ:

The view there on that. Go again.

Corby:

Yeah, I can genuinely say this is a game that I don’t know too much about. I know LIU took some money last night, but looking at it’s just an absolutely ugly matchup.

TJ:

All right. Again, not a lot of redeeming value there on the card. Again, UMass, UMass Lowell is, if I have this right, there’s six and one. But again we come back to Matt Joseph’s who’s the six against. You got to be careful when you’re laying those points. Fisher College Columbia out of the Ivy League, they have a win against, they did lose to Rutgers. What a big win for Rutgers by the way, over Indiana over the weekend. UMass Lowell beating Sacred Heart beating something or someone called Emerson. Is that Ralph Waldo Emerson? Are we getting literary? Brown in the Ivy League they’ve beaten, Stonehill, Mary Mack, and they beat Sacred Heart again on the road. That’s the UMass Lowell wins. So Matt, just like as we like to say in general terms, be careful when looking at the record, who’s the six in one against, right? One more time.

Matt:

Well yeah, and LIU is worse than almost everybody except for Mary Mack. They’re 350 on Ken Palm, Mary Mack is 351, Columbia’s 346. So they’re beating up teams that are the same caliber of LIU. The other thing real quick is to just consider they play at UMass on Thursday and that’s a bigger game for UMass Lowell because they actually have a shot to probably win that game. [inaudible 00:10:43] cover what the line is. Ken Palm only says it’s going to be a three point spread for that game. So just be careful with the potential look ahead factor as well there for Lowell.

TJ:

All right, good enough. Again, if you’re just joining us, we’re here live at 11:00 AM Eastern Time, Monday through Friday on the BetUS College Basketball Show. Great to be with mid-major Matt with Corby Craig as we rock along and again, we’re going over all of the games involving division one teams against each other. There’s not a bunch of them on Monday. There’s not necessarily an official play on all of them. There will be on a couple of them coming up. Let’s get into the next one on the schedule. And that is Kennesaw State and Charleston Southern. Kennesaw State out of the [inaudible 00:11:22] against Charleston Southern on the road and Kennesaw State actually favored by five on the road, the total 139 and a half. Corby Craig, I am back to you. Anything on this if no official play here for the peeps?

Corby:

Yeah, it’s weird to say it, but Kennesaw State looks like a good team. In years past they’ve been pretty rough but they just come off of a Mercer win. They played VC to a really good game, a really bad game versus Campbell and then they beat Appalachian State. So this isn’t a Kennesaw State team that we’re used to seeing. On the other end, Charleston Southern’s 309th in Ken Palm ratings. So five seems soft, maybe it’s ’cause it’s on the road, but Kennesaw has played on the road for quite some time now. I believe they have one home game since November 14th. So I don’t see too big of a worry there. I think five’s probably a little softer the number.

TJ:

All right, mid-major Matt, thoughts if no official play on Charleston Southern hosting Kennesaw, who’s the road favorite?

Matt:

Well, Charleston Southern had that weird game in Virginia Tech. It was a really slow game and it was a really close game throughout that I guess threw some people off in terms of how bad or good they are. But then they lost by 20 to South Florida and South Florida is horrendous. So I mean look, I would like the road team here, but the value’s probably going, I think it opened at two and a half so I would’ve considered it there, but now I think that the number’s gone.

TJ:

All right, good enough. That game was, I believe Saturday in Tampa. Now Charleston Southern turns right around, comes right back home on Monday with Kennesaw State in that matchup. All right, let’s move on to the next one. And again, get your questions in the live chat here as we go on through these different games. The next one I think will have some interest. Matt always loves talking Gonzaga Bulldogs and they’re playing host of Kent State tonight at the Kennel Spokane, Washington Gonzaga laying 15 in this one. The total is 153 for the matchup this evening. There’s not an official play, but Mid-major Mattie, thought on Gonzaga at home with the big number.

Matt:

I mean Gonzaga’s having some turnover issues and that’s a very concerning thing ’cause Kent state’s starting to turn up the heat a little bit on defense. They’re sixth in the nation forcing turnovers in 27% of their possessions. I actually almost came close to playing Kent State in the first half of this game because you look, Gonzaga’s coming off playing Baylor, Xavier Perdue, Portland State, Kentucky, Texas, Michigan State, that’s a hell of a gauntlet. Now you’re home and you’re playing Kent State and it’s a game that you should win. But look, and if you look at what Kent State’s done against Houston, they played really well and the loss at Charleston, they were up big in the first half. So Kent State’s not a deep team. I don’t think they’re going to want to run despite the fact they do have a pretty good tempo here. So that’s why I was really heavily considering Kent State in the first half before they lose their energy a little bit. I think that they could make things interesting. Sincere Carry is one of the better players on the court in this game tonight.

TJ:

I just realized too, we were talking about that matchup with Baylor at the, I think it’s the Corn Palace in, they call it the Pentagon in South Dakota. They went and played a neutral floor game with Baylor and Baylor came from behind and the final couple of minutes at a couple of big threes and came from behind to beat them. This is on the heels, man. I know you know this, of Baylor having given up 90 plus points to Marquette and they stayed up in the upper Midwest and went to South Dakota and then beat Gonzaga. Corby, any thoughts here? What do you think that means for Gonzaga now back at home to have lost in South Dakota just in the last two or three days to Baylor?

Corby:

Yeah, Gonzaga’s been a pretty tricky team to understand but when looking at this game, I thought the team total over 84 was a bit soft. I had it at 87. Gonzaga, they’ve looked pretty rough as of late and I think this is a game where they can open it up. But I do agree with Matt that I think it starts out pretty early slow game. Kent State has a lot of shooters and it wouldn’t surprise me if this is closed for a minute, I will probably be looking to bet Gonzaga at half, especially if this is a close game, probably get a little lower of a number. But 15 is probably right on the money. I think that if you can get a three, four point game a half having get a 12 for this full game, you’re probably good.

TJ:

And again, we mentioned at Kent State, depending on records and who they’re against is six and two. The six includes wins over Portland and Northern Kentucky, also against Chicago State, Arkansas, Pine Bluff, they beat South Dakota State, they do have losses, kent State to Charleston and to Houston. And the Houston game neither team got to 50 points for what it is worth. All right, so no official play but Gonzaga at home laying a bunch here, laying 15 and a half at the kennel. [inaudible 00:16:04] have a big night as they look to come off that loss at narrow loss to Baylor.

All right, peeps again, we’ve got official plays coming on these final two games on the card. You’ve been waiting and you’ve finally got official plays coming here from the handicappers. Let’s get to our next game, which will be Troy and San Diego State. This one in the [inaudible 00:16:23] Center in San Diego. Again, a large number for the home team. San Diego State favored by 15 and a half. The total is 137 and a half. Mid-major Matt, I am back to you. What is the official play in this one for a Monday night?

Matt:

So let me qualify this for a second in saying obviously as I’ve said, I think I said this last week ’cause we had a small card, I wouldn’t play anything today, I wouldn’t. But as I’ve said, I can’t come on this show and be like, “Hey, I’ve got nothing for you today.” So I really had to scrape this card for a little bit here. And when you have seven games and you just stare at them over and over again, things just pop out. So look, when you think of San Diego State, usually you think of defense, but this year San Diego State team is not playing defense as good as it has in the past. And not only that, they’re playing with pace. I believe we’ve talked about on this show before that early on we looked at San Diego State unders and we’re like, “Okay, they’re not going into slow team, they’re not playing at the great defense that they usually play.”

You look at everybody who they’ve faced so far this season. Irvine scored 69 outside of Cal State Fullerton. Everybody’s gone over this number against San Diego State this season. There is a look ahead factor. Saturday they get to take on St. Mary’s in Phoenix, Arizona and you look at Troy. Now, the one thing I would love to make sure of with Troy is that Duke Miles plays in this game. He’s missed the last two contests with concussion symptoms. I’d like to think a week later he’d be available. But this Troy team, they put up 79 at Florida State, they put up 61 at Arkansas. It’s a little bit of a concern here. They scored 72 at SIU Edwardsville and 73 at Montana. As I said, I didn’t love anything on this card today and actually I’m more and more convincing myself I’d rather play the Kent State first half than this play, but since it’s already up there, I will take the Troy team total over and hope that Duke Miles plays tonight and that they put up some points on San Diego State who might be looking ahead to Saturday.

TJ:

Interesting. And I like the theory on the look ahead and it’s maybe a sleepy Monday night for them at home. Corby, you’re in the state of Alabama. Troy has a decent record. What are your thoughts if no official play on them playing all the way out west at San Diego State tonight?

Corby:

Yeah, I think it was Matt and I that talked about it earlier in the season that this San Diego state team would play with some tempo and he alluded to it but I think their defense, they play good enough defense to push tempo, which sounds crazy but it’s forcing early shots which so far have went in or the games are just getting out of hand and they run it up. If you look at San Diego State, what, they just gave up 57 to a non rank team. So to imagine Troy scoring four more. I don’t think it’s out of the question by any means. It’s terrifying to bet a team total under in a San Diego state game. They can do as they please, but I think it’s probably the right side if you had to take a bet here.

TJ:

And again a Troy team that had one six of their first seven games back-to-back losses for Arkansas and then they also lost to SIU Edwardsville, Southern Illinois Edwardsville. We’ll see. We’ll see what it looks like with a big number for San Diego State tonight. Meantime, Mid-major Matt is on the Troy team total. He thinks there will be points, points, points and that Troy will get to the over on the total here tonight, the total of 61 in this matchup. Okay, one game left here. We’ll get to your questions and answers in a couple of moments if you haven’t had any already. That one game involves North Dakota State and Portland. And Portland has already raised a couple of eyebrows with how they played in the Phil Night event, the Portland Pilots and they are laying 16 here against North Dakota State with a total of 150 and a half. Corby Craig, we are to you. What is the official play on this final game on the card for Monday?

Corby:

Yeah, this one’s crashed down. It was 154 and a half last night. It’s still like 150 and a half. At the end of the idea here is the Portland has just pushed a pace. It’s way too high to keep posting these numbers. They keep getting 154, 155’s. They’re facing a North Dakota State team that’s not going to be able to do much of anything. They have one win, they’re one in eight. The one win was versus 91 school. Every other game they’ve looked pretty awful. New Mexico, they scored 55. It’s just these kind of games that you’re going to see over and over.

I don’t think the North Dakota state can do much of anything. Probably their team total under would be fine, but at the same time I just don’t see Portland pushing this pace any. Also North Dakota State has Grant Nelson was out last week. I believe he’s their highest offensive rating player. In their last game, he was out overseas for Washington. So he’s scored what, 31 in the Northern Colorado game. So that’s a big piece if he’s not back and I really don’t think that they have much to do with Portland. This number’s just, it’s going to tank but I had it 147 and a half so getting a 154 last night, 150 and a half now is probably plenty fun.

TJ:

Mid-major Matt, for your thoughts here again, I’m looking at Portland’s resume in that Fill Night Invitational they lost to North Carolina 89-81, they turned around and beat Villanova. They only lost at Michigan State. I know it’s a loss by a point. So they’ve played some tough teams recently. They’ve won two games since then. All right, a thought if no official play on Portland at home with North Dakota State?

Matt:

Well Portland was one of the two teams I talked about in our first show that I really liked this season because of their offense and I don’t think their offense will be an issue here. Their defense at times has not been great. That’s my one concern. But if you look, I mean they held Florida [inaudible 00:21:48] to 54, North Dakota to 69 here. The one thing that we’re not hoping for is that Portland puts up like 90 and has this thing be like a 90-69 type of game they just had with North Dakota. But North Dakota State’s much worse.

It’s funny ’cause you had never seen this line in past years ’cause North Dakota State, highly reputable Summit League team and then the bottom has just dropped out on them, their defense is terrible, their offense is terrible. They don’t score a lot of points. Look, I like where Corby’s going here. Obviously I know it’s funny last night he puts up on the sheet and it’s 154 and a half and then all of a sudden it drops down. So obviously he probably locked in a better number last night. But as you’ve talked about with regards to the show, how we put the numbers in, 154 and a half looks a whole lot better than 150 and a half.

TJ:

Nonetheless my man Corby Craig is undaunted and he says, “I’m going to stick with it here.” Let’s get him locked in officially under 150 and a half for North Dakota State and Portland for the final official play on a Monday. Well done boys on talking about all the different games. Let’s get to some questions and answers from you, the peeps that are watching us right now and there might be a couple of them so it may not have anything to do with the Monday card, et cetera. There’s a lot of people giving us compliments on getting through that there with all the different games that we had there from the day. I’ll start with a question and answer ’cause I’m still curious about this. Kentucky and Michigan played in London. We didn’t cover this on the Friday show. So I mean John [inaudible 00:23:21], it’s just very interesting.

[inaudible 00:23:22] ended the series with Indiana, which is a border state to Kentucky and their true two traditional blue blood rivals. He doesn’t want to play Indiana on campus and so they had a big dispute, but yet [inaudible 00:23:35] willing to go all the way to Spokane and play Gonzaga and go all the way to London to play a neutral floor game with Michigan. I’m not sure that I understand any of that. Guys, any thoughts? Corby, any thought? Kentucky did win the game with Michigan. Again, both programs flew nine hours across the Atlantic to go play in London at the oh two Arena and Kentucky won the game on Sunday.

Corby:

Yeah, I could be completely wrong in my opinion, but I think that he’s doing that for mostly the recruiting process. So if a player knows that he gets to go to Spokane, he gets to go to London, it’s going to look a lot better on paper than, “Hey, you can go to India.”

TJ:

I think part of it, and Matt weighed on this too, part of it is he got rankled by Indiana hitting the last second shot storming the court in Bloomington and then ESPN ran the play and branded in a promo like eight million times and he got sick of seeing it and got upset and then he just didn’t want to play at Bloomington anymore on campus anymore. Matt, that’s part of it I think there for Kentucky. But Matt just join in, what about playing a game in the middle of December where you got to fly nine hours to go play in London? Thoughts on all that?

Matt:

Well, here’s the funny thing about the Gonzaga stuff, they wouldn’t play in the kennel so they played in Spokane, which is larger, allowing Gonzaga fans who can’t get into the kennel to go to the Spokane arena to watch this game making a bigger home court advantage. So I thought that was funny. I understand the theory of, “Oh, we don’t want to play into kennel smaller, louder,” but instead you invited more Gonzaga fans in to come watch this game. Look, I can’t kill [inaudible 00:25:02]. He plays a lot of tough games. I mean him and ISO and North Carolina and obviously Mark [inaudible 00:25:08], these guys play a lot of tough games so I can’t kill them for not playing this one tough game.

TJ:

Interesting. All right, so again, Kentucky won the game with Michigan narrowly in London in the regular season game and I know some programs played in Ireland a couple of weeks ago as well in a pre buildup tournament there for that. I’m looking to see when Kentucky plays again and again, we’ll get your live questions, get a couple of questions if you’ve got them just in general or whatever. It doesn’t have to be obviously about this light Monday card and I’m being kind. Kentucky plays this weekend with Yale and then they play UCLA and I think the UCLA game is in Vegas if I’m not mistaken, later in December. So let me get this straight again. They can’t play Indiana right next to them but they will have gone to Spokane and come back, have gone to London and come back and now we’ll go to Las Vegas to play UCLA and that kind of made for TV-

Matt:

It’s in Madison Square Garden.

TJ:

That’s at Madison Square Garden. My bad because haven’t they played that in Vegas before where Kentucky plays UCLA and Ohio State plays North Carolina and they alternate? They played one of those-

Matt:

That was the CVS sports challenge or something. I think they only ran that one or two years and then they changed. They got rid of it ’cause the teams didn’t want to play in it anymore.

TJ:

There you go. But the UCLA game again is in Madison Square Garden. So interesting as they move everything around there for Kentucky on that, they’ll play Yale next. All right, let’s get to a question. If anybody’s got a question or two, send those on here on the slate. Send these on off of Sunday or as well off the Tuesday slate that’s coming up tomorrow if you’ve got something in advance. Do we make anything out of Northwestern who’s gotten off to a good start beating Michigan State at Michigan State? Corby, a thought on that, a big ten seven point win by Northwestern Sunday night against Michigan State?

Corby:

Yeah, just a short backtrack to this Kentucky line matchup versus Yale. It’s actually quite interesting. As you say, they fly cross country and then they’re going to have a look ahead versus UCLA. Yale is a really good basketball team. I wouldn’t sleep on this game any and Ken Palm has a line 15. If this opens 15, 15 and a half, I think there’s way too many points for a Yale team and who can score the basketball. They’re not bad by any means. They haven’t been bad for quite some time. So seeing that number so big surprised me and I wanted to bring it up at least. As for Northwestern, I didn’t get to watch that game. I’m pulling up my numbers now. Maybe Matt has something on them.

TJ:

Well they did win by seven, they’re now six and two. Matt, any thoughts? That’s a true road win in conference at East Lansing.

Matt:

Yeah, I try not to watch big 10 basketball. It’s not good for my health but yeah, I mean look, it’s funny ’cause we sat here and I’m kicking myself ’cause we were here last Monday and we were talking about the Northwestern Pittsburgh game and I liked North Pittsburgh because I thought it was too many points and I actually had the number and then it went down a couple points and I didn’t give it out in the show. They got blasted by Pittsburgh in that game. They lost by almost 30, so it’s like, I can’t figure out what Northwestern is this season.

TJ:

But give them credit. Again, a true road win as I keep saying at Michigan State and those are hard to come by in the conference. I’m just looking to see in the statistical breakdown what Northwestern did much better. Neither team shot at great, both around 42%. Northwestern out rebounded Michigan State. Northwestern made 21 of 24 free throws, just nine of 12 for Michigan State and Northwestern and Chris Collins got the win on the road to get off to a six and two start. One more that I have, and again, peeps we’ll be here for another minute or two. Get me a question if you want to get those in. Fabian and the guys at BetUS will put these up. Virginia Tech beating North Carolina yesterday, that’s four straight losses for North Carolina. Is it time to hit the panic button? Mid-Major Matt, a thought? They were pre-season number one, they’ve now lost four in a row getting into ACC play.

Matt:

No, they didn’t have Bay Cot yesterday. The Castle’s always a tough place to play. I’m not that concerned about North Carolina. Look, it’s one of those things where they were basically handed a spot in the championship game before the season even began. I think they’re just struggling to hit expectations. We all talk about the team coming back, but the loss they had at Brady Manic was pretty big one. I mean, you guys saw it and you saw TJ used to hit the Brady Manic three pointers over every show because that’s what he did. He was a guy who was a stretch four who could hit threes and I think this team will be fine. If you look at their losses, they were all on the way or at neutral court, they’ll bounce back, they’ll beat up on Georgia Tech and then they’ll be fine.

TJ:

All right, good enough. I’m not sure if we lost Corby there on the live show or not.

Corby:

I can hear you all. I’m frozen.

TJ:

You can hear us, but we can only see you. You’re frozen on screen with a great expression on your face. It’s fantastic.

Corby:

This is the look you guys get.

TJ:

It is the look, why don’t we do this? Let’s take a look at our best bets and get out of here. Only two games that the guys are playing tonight. Should I use the adverb reluctantly, Mid-major Matt? Reluctantly on the Troy team total over 61 for their matchup coming tonight with San Diego State. That is a 7:00 Pacific 10:00 Eastern Time game. Equally a 7:00 Pacific, 10:00 Eastern Time game is North Dakota State and Portland. That one Corby says he believes will go under the total of 150 and a half. All right, I think we’re good here for a Monday. Gentlemen, appreciate it as always. Way to slog through the card here. Again, peeps, you got something on every game that’s on the docket here and the official plays from the guys, two of them. Corby, thanks. We appreciate it, good stuff. Mid-major Matt, any final thought before we’re gone?

Matt:

I hate this card. I wouldn’t play anything. I don’t even care if this Troy bet hits. I still wouldn’t play it, but hey, we’ll see if it comes up with a winner.

TJ:

And just gather information sometimes. Stay away, gather information on certain teams, watch and then it’s a busier Tuesday card as well. To that end, we’ll be back on Tuesday at 11:00 AM. Thank you all for watching. For Corby Craig for Mid-major Matt, Fabian, everybody at BetUS, I’m TJ Reeves. Thanks for being with us on the College Basketball Show.
