Speaker 1:

Well, welcome back in to the BetUS College Basketball show for a Tuesday, man, we have a lot to digest, or actually for a Wednesday, excuse me, a lot to digest from Tuesday night where we saw Virginia fall way behind, come roaring back to beat Michigan, we saw Marquette flatten the number five team in the country, Baylor a lot of action from the ACC-Big Ten Challenge to go over, but of course we’re also pointing ahead. We’ve got our handicappers. Both Mats are here, Mid Major Matt is back aboard, Matt Josephs, and also Mattie Cox back here, guys, how we feeling? Mid Major Matt, you’re back here, I know [inaudible 00:00:35] a little bit from a Syracuse loss with Illinois, a wild night in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge for sure and also the Marquette blowout of Baylor, 96 points for Marquette. Matt, welcome, what are your thoughts here to begin the show?

Speaker 2:

Nothing like knowing your season’s going to probably be NIT at best by November 30th. I’m ready for some changes in the Syracuse program, I’m ready for somebody new to come in and just kind of give some fresh blood to that whole program.

Speaker 1:

Kind of a kick in the pants that it might need. Mattie Cox, how we feeling here as we get ready for a Wednesday edition of the show off of some very… I mean what a comeback by Virginia at Michigan. They had the arena rocking, they had a double digit lead, and Virginia undaunted came back and won the game. That and other thoughts real quick, before we get to Wednesday?

Speaker 3:

Well just kind of piggybacking off what Major Matt bemoaned about Syracuse, shame on me for being so foolish and backing that team along with the Cardinals. I will get better. I don’t need to play these cute large dogs. This is a look in the mirror moment for me on this program.

Speaker 1:

All right, yes, you had a couple of large ones yesterday, including Louisville now 0 and 7. Now as Matt Josephs knows and Mattie, I don’t know how much this, I’m a Memphis Tiger, so we don’t have any sympathy for Louisville and the struggles. But I mean 0 and 7, and it’s fair to say, staring down the be barrel with their remaining schedule right now in early December, mid-December, they’re going to be 0 and 10, it looks like. I mean, Mattie, is there a floor? Are they going to hit the floor at some point or are we still in free fall here for Kenny Payne’s team?

Speaker 3:

I thought we’d hit floor before last night, turns out there’s a whole nother cellar below that they can continue to tumble into. So yeah, they’re at the earth’s molten core at this point.

Speaker 1:

What did I see? It is the worst ACC start, Matt Josephs, since 1941 that somebody has started the year 0 and 7 as an ACC team. And Louisville’s not one of the [inaudible 00:02:28] of the ACC, but that’s incredible at how bad it has been.

Speaker 2:

The good thing is somebody has to win December 10th when Florida State and Louisville play each other in Tallahassee. Somebody has to win. I mean, Florida State does have one win, but man, those two programs stank.

Speaker 1:

It’s been bad. It’s been bad, for sure. All right, so let’s get to our records. Let’s get to the Wednesday games here in just a couple of moments. But the records first, you can see that Corby Cox now above 500 with a couple of wins last night is now 14 and 12. Corby Craig, excuse me, Mattie Cox is trying to get back to 500, Mid Major Matt right there at the Mendoza line, the show overall is that way as well. Corby hit the over in the Idaho State, Missouri, Kansas City game and also had Houston’s team total, which did go over the 77 and a half for two wins last night. So we were two and two on the show yesterday, and now we’re ready to get things underway for a show on Wednesday. And we will do that right away with a game that involves Richmond and Toledo. You know if Mid Major Matt is on the show and Toledo is on the card, Toledo is probably going to be a play. They are laying four and a half, the total 145 and a half. So let’s get involved in this, and in fact, wait a minute, do I have my Matts confused? It’s not Mid Major Matt with the play, it’s actually Mattie Cox with the play on this one. I did have my Matts confused. Mattie Cox, what do you like?

Speaker 3:

No, I mean, Mid Major Matt wanted to talk about this game. I know he is the top booster of the Toledo Hoops program, and I’m tonight’s top backer of this squad coming off a fairly questionable MTE performance. They lost their first two, they got on their right side of the one column, their last game, I think that’s kind of the launching pad to that rocket ship, no pun intended, as the Toledo Rockets that we saw earlier in the year, right? The team that we saw dominate UAB, a really good team, for 30 minutes. Todd Kowalczyk, their head coach, talked about some minor adjustments they made. I think they kind of flipped the switch back to the full on mode, and I’m looking at this line and I’m thinking it should be closer to 8-9. I know Richmond’s played pretty well, they’re still very young and they’re still without Matt Grace, one of their key interior big guys. He might debut tonight, but I bet if he plays, he’s not going to be 100% or all that effective. A lot of signs pointing toward the Rockets. I’m going to lay it tonight, minus four and a half, anything up to minus five.

Speaker 1:

Okay, interesting on this one, and I’m not sure if we had both of you playing this or not, but in any event, Mid Major Matt, any thoughts if no official play here on this because you love team totals involving Toledo a lot of times on the show?

Speaker 2:

I mean, as I’ve said all along, I play it every time. I just adjust the unit size, and so it’s a small play for tonight. The interesting thing is, you look at Richmond and they’re playing so slow, 64 possessions a game 335th on KenPom. I don’t think they’re going to be able to set the pace here. I think we’re going to play this game at Toledo’s pace. The total has gone all over the place in terms of it was at 145, then it went up, then it went down, then it’s back around the same thing.

If I was to play anything here, it would probably be the over. I’m concerned a little bit about Toledo’s three point defense. Richmond’s been shooting a three terribly. I do think Toledo can have some success on the offensive boards. Richmond’s a horrendous rebounding team. I think Toledo wins this game. I think this one’s played at the Rockets’ pace. It’s a bit of a concern that Richmond wants to slow it down, but I think, as Matt said, they got their wake up call in that MTE. I think they’re going to play good basketball tonight and get the win over the Spiders.

Speaker 1:

All right. So the Atlantic 10 and the Mac in action tonight and Mattie Cox, clarify for me again, because I thought I saw that you’re on a first half total or are you on the side of Toledo or are you on both? Are you double dipping here with the Rockets? Which is it?

Speaker 3:

No, just going full game, Toledo minus four and a half. I would also endorse the first half play, they’ve been a great first half team the last, what, three, four years under Kowalczyk? So if you don’t like that you missed the better full game prized at three or four and you’re annoyed you have to lay the hook at four, I think just take the first half that at minus two and a half, minus two, minus three, I guess, depending on what book you look at.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so you see that up on the screen. But again, he’s also on the side here for Toledo laying the four and a half on the BetUS line for game number one. By the way, I should make mention if you’ve not already done so, hit the like button for us, hit the bell, make sure you’re subscribing here to this channel and sharing it out as well because more and more of you are finding us. We’re here weekday mornings, 11:00 AM Eastern Time, adjust your time zone accordingly, live. We will have time for questions and answers as you see on the screen there graphically coming up here after we have three more official games that we’re going to talk about here on the show. You know we’re going to get to some of these ACC-Big Ten Challenge games as the final night of that is going on, including Indiana and North Carolina playing tonight as well.

However, let’s move on. One of the lesser games maybe, although this could be sneaky good, right? I mean Rutgers and Miami have been NCAA tournament teams in recent years. Rutgers and Miami in the ACC Challenge in South Florida tonight with Rutgers getting three points here on the road, total 136 and a half in this one. And Mattie Cox, we are back to you for an official play here involving the Canes and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, [inaudible 00:07:43] Mr. Jim Larranaga, the Tilda as I like to call him, hosting Rutgers, a team that gives me a lot of similar vibes as Northwestern. They’ve been overinflated value-wise in the market because of their ability to beat up on mid to low caliber competition to this point and Rutgers has been fairly impressive despite being without the services of two of their top players for most of that run with Caleb McConnell and Paul Mulcahy. McConnell came back last game, Paul Mulcahy should come back tonight, so you could argue that Rutgers is a good angle because they’ll be a full strength.

However, I like to kind of zig when the market zags on these. I just don’t think guys that come back from injury generally are as effective right from the jump, and I just don’t think this Rutgers team has enough fire power to keep pace with Miami. I know they have the size advantage up front with Cliff Omoruyi, but I think just Larranaga with some time to prepare in a game that should play closer to six, seven points, three feels like a bargain. So I’m going to back the home team here at Coral Gables and lay the field goal.

Speaker 1:

Off of a loss to Maryland, they have wins over St. Francis of Brooklyn and UCF. They won the UCF game in Orlando cross-state kind of matchup. Mid Major Matt, I know you have an official play on this one as well. Give me more on Miami and Rutgers, please.

Speaker 2:

So I’m more of a scaredy cat. I like to have the comfort and the safety of the money line in this game. Minus 150 is probably my tops, and it’s really, I don’t play those often but I mean quite simply, Rutgers outside the rack is just a different team. I mean I know Miami’s not a tough place to play, although they’re starting to get a little bit more of a following down in Miami for these basketball games because the team’s good and probably because they’re paying fans to go because they pay everybody down on Miami’s campus. But I just think Rutgers outside the rack is a different team, and as he said, they’re getting all these guys back. And this game in February maybe is a little bit different, but this game in November with guys coming off injuries and getting back in the rotations and things like that, I took the Miami money line so obviously I agree with him, I’m just more of a cautious gambler. So I took the money line on this one.

Speaker 1:

As we often like to say, I mean they are five and one, but who are the five? Who are the five against? It’s against Columbia, sacred Heart, UMass Lowell, stop me on a national champion contender, please, guys, Rider and Central Connecticut. That’s the five wins for Rutgers. They do have a loss to Temple, now they’re on the road playing a significant game against Miami. So both handicappers on the side on this and they’re both on the Miami Hurricanes, Mattie Cox a little braver, he does have the U up there here on the show, laying the three, scaredy cat is how you dubbed yourself on that for Miami with the money line, the Just Win babe. You’re like the US men’s national team against Iran yesterday in the World Cup. Just win, baby, doesn’t matter how, just get the win and move on.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, [inaudible 00:10:28] That’s right.

Speaker 1:

That’s all you’re looking for the Miami Hurricanes tonight. Couple of games to go here before we get to your questions and your comments. Providence and TCU up for discussion next here on the program, where the Fryers are getting six and a half on the road against the Frogs. The Froggies obviously in the thick of the college football playoff in the Big 12 title game this week. The basketball team’s a pre-season top 25 team. They did suffer an upset loss earlier this year to Northwestern State out of Louisiana at home in a game that they were up by double figures, and Northwestern State came roaring back on them. So Providence getting the six and a half, our total is 135 and a half. Mid Major Matt, we are back to you, give me an official play on this one, please.

Speaker 2:

It’s Providence, so it’s going to be a close game. So I mean, that’s pretty much what you kind of look at when it comes to Providence. I mean, I feel like every game is just one possession so we might as well just fast forward to four minutes left and Providence is either up two or down two. But I mean the numbers are pretty impressive when you look at Ed Cooley as a underdog, and you look at some of the things according to KenPom here. Providence can’t defend the three, TCU can’t hit the three, TCU wants to get to the free throw line, Providence doesn’t value. They’re top 25 when it comes to defense, free throw defense, in terms of not fouling the opponent, which is good because for some reason, teams are hitting all their free throws against Providence which is really odd.

But this TCU team, they beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff by one at home, they lost at home by one to Northwestern State, Lamar was kind of a close game back and forth. And I do understand they’re getting Damion Baugh back tonight, which is pretty big because he is their point guard, but it’s just Providence and close games, I’m going to keep playing it. Ed Cooley knows how to navigate through these things. He’s got a lot of talent. I know they’re the shorter team of the two, but it opened at seven and a half, I liked it more at seven and a half, but at six and a half I still think it’s worth a shot here. I like Providence as the underdog here against the TCU team that has played a lot of close games.

Speaker 1:

All right, Mattie Cox, a thought if no official play on TCU and Providence, please.

Speaker 3:

I love it. I should have added this, I think Mid Major Matt has the winner here. You couple in the fact of all the personnel issues that TCU has, they do get Damion Baugh back tonight from suspension, I think he’s a key piece, but Emanuel Miller, Micah Peavy, didn’t practice, their status is uncertain and then Mike Miles is still not 100%, I don’t believe, their undisputed star alpha dog at the point of attack. So just look at what TCUs done to date, coupled in the fact that they’re really hurt on top of the fact that Providence, just in their DNA as an an awesome dog, I mean, check, check, check, I think it’s a great bet here even if the current number would just come down.

Speaker 1:

I was going to get to this comment, nice job Antonio and our friends at BetUS, Javier is asking about TCU first half money line. I don’t know if you guys specifically want to address that or how do you philosophically look at a first half money line versus the money line for the game, et cetera? Either of you want to take that?

Speaker 3:

No, I don’t really have a money line angle with first half. I like taking the first half when maybe the full game price has gotten past a key number, not that there is as key of numbers in football as there are in basketball, but two, three and five. If it gets away from me as a favorite, especially I’ll, I’ll maybe look to lay that favorite first half, but I don’t have a money line angle with first half plays personally.

Speaker 1:

And that’s what we were talking about with the Toledo game as well where you were looking to lay a first half line on that. Matt, any final thought or you want to move on off Providence and TCU? Have you had enough of the Friers and Ed Cooley?

Speaker 2:

No, I just, Ed Cooley’s a great underdog and his team is veteran enough that I’m not worried about it and so I liked it. Obviously I liked it more at seven and a half, but six and a half I think is still good.

Speaker 1:

Mid Major Matt says take the points. We will see what happens in that matchup tonight in Fort Worth with Jamie Dixon’s Frogs and Miles obviously helped them get in the NCA tournament a year ago. We’ll see if he’s back and how well he can play for TCU. Get those questions and answers. I already see a lot of them in the live chat and the audience does continue to grow. Thank you for finding us, we’re here Wednesdays, weekdays 11:00 AM on a Wednesday show and if you’re seeing us later, be here at 11:00 AM Eastern Time for the rest of this week and for the rest of the basketball season, we’re about to hit December all the way through. One more game that the guys want to discuss and have an official play and this one will come out of the WCC St. Mary’s at home with New Mexico, the Lobos. St. Mary’s Lane 10 in this matchup and the total is 136 on the BetUS line. We’re right back to Mid Major Matt, what stands out for an official play on this one?

Speaker 2:

This is your classic pace versus no pace and I’m going to take the chance here that even though the road team is the pace team, that there is going to be a lot of points in this game. You look at St. Mary’s, when you look at St Mary’s, they play defense, they want to go slow, and obviously 319th in tempo this year. But if you notice, couple red numbers for the KenPom people, 71 possessions in that Hopster game, 72 possessions in Vanderbilt. I don’t expect them to run, I don’t think they will, but I think New Mexico’s defense is not good enough. I think that you’re going to see plenty of possessions here and obviously, this is another classic case.

New Mexico’s 6 and 0, they got a lot of green in their profile but they’ve played pretty much nobody. The road win at SMU was pretty good and they pushed SMU tempo wise, 76 possessions, which is more than SMU wants to do. So I’m going to take a chance, I think this number is low enough for that. I think that we’re going to see some tempo here. I think St. Mary’s is going to score some points, New Mexico’s going to score some points here, so I’m going to take a shot on the over here and hope that New Mexico sets tempo, even though usually, it’s the home team that does so.

Speaker 1:

I was not aware till I just looked. Am I this old? Jamal Mashburn Jr. at New Mexico?

Speaker 2:

Yes, sir.

Speaker 1:

And he got 19 in their win over North Dakota State. Mattie Cox, tell me more about a New Mexico team, as Matt was saying, that you can question the schedule a little bit. They’re 6 and 0 playing at St. Mary’s. Any thoughts if no official play?

Speaker 3:

No, look, great. I think this is a line where it looks big because you think St. Mary’s low scoring games, hard to cover, bigger, numbers and you look at how well New Mexico has played this season, I think everything that they’ve done is legit even though the competition hasn’t been all the way up to snuff. But St. Mary’s has an ability to cover these spreads, right? I call them the Virginia of the West where they Crockpot teams, slowly but surely build the margin and then you look at the final score and they’re up 15 and you don’t know how they ended up winning by 15. So I’m always terrified to face St. Mary’s, especially at home, even with a team who I respect as much as the Lobos in New Mexico.

Speaker 1:

Did you just say Crockpot teams? What do you know about a Crockpot? You don’t cook with a Crockpot, do you?

Speaker 3:

I got some chicken right now working in the kitchen. So that’s St. Mary’s, New Mexico.

Speaker 1:

What time is lunch? What time is lunch for the Crockpot? Nonetheless, let’s get Mid Major Matt on the record. He says over, he says points here at least over that total of 136 even with St. Mary’s at home with the Lobos coming in New Mexico out of the mountain West. Interesting, that’s 6 and 0 against 6 and 1. Time for the questions and the answers from the peeps. I’ll begin things, guys, how intrigued are you by Indiana, North Carolina? We didn’t talk about it officially on the show, but that’s obviously a game, North Carolina obviously off the quadruple overtime loss to Alabama, Indiana’s had a couple of good wins early on in the year. Two of the true blue blood programs, even though the Hoosiers are red, they played in the final four, they played in national championship games before. How intrigued are you by this tonight for the ACC-Big Ten challenge, either one of you? Mattie Cox?

Speaker 3:

Well I can, I was at the last time Indiana hosted North Carolina at home as a student there back in the early 2010s. The line’s been all over the place. We saw this line open at five and then they got bent up to seven last night because there was whispers that Bacot would be out this game, and now it’s come all the way back down to four as it’s been confirmed that he will try to play despite sharp pains, quote, unquote. Kind of déjà vu, back to the national championship game when his status was very much in question. You can see how much the market respects his presence. I’ll ask the same, Mid Major Matt, I think I lay the points now at fourth Indiana. I think it’s come down too far IUS assembly hall is a different beast, the way Caleb decides to take shots that are unquestionably terrible. I think UNC is kind of a net fade right now.

Speaker 1:

Mid Major Matt, thoughts at all on Carolina, Indiana tonight?

Speaker 2:

So it’s funny, last night I kind of liked the over. It was 144 and a half when I saw it, and then obviously the Bacot news kind of scared me a little bit. Obviously, TJD I think is dealing with a hand thing. The one thing I wanted to bring up is that I saw a lot of people are discussing Indiana’s defense, and it’s classic case if they played nobody and the one team they played, they gave up 79 Xavier. So holding Jackson State to 51 points is a tremendous feat, I understand that, but Indiana’s defense can be exploited tonight. So I kind of had to lean towards the over a little bit here. My worry is with the two best players in this game, but not at 100%, what’s that going to look like? Does it mean it’s going to be more free flowing because the two bigs in the middle are going to struggle a little bit, or is it that when these two teams run their offense through these guys, it’s going to kind of bog things down a little bit? That was my worry and why I didn’t make the over an official play.

Speaker 1:

All right. So again, they’ll play at 9:15 Eastern Time tonight. Simultaneous, Michigan State and Notre Dame will be playing at Notre Dame and if you’re in the Midwest, if you’re in the Big Ten markets and in the State of Indiana, I mean there’s a lot of love hate between Indiana, Notre Dame and they’re playing at the same time here in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, as we pointed out earlier in the week, Matt, you were talking about this, this is the last year of it. ESPN has announced their made for TV scheduling creation will now be an ACC SEC challenge because guess what? ESPN doesn’t televise the Big Ten football or basketball or any sports anymore after the current contract is up after this season. So the Big Ten will go to other networks, not only to Fox, but also to CBS and NBC for football and for other sports. So there you go, there you go on that.

All right, very good. So a little Q&A here from the peeps as well as they continue to watch us live on this Wednesday. Rick watching wants to know, what about Akron and Marshall here in a matchup on a Wednesday night? Either one of you with a thought on that matchup, gentlemen?

Speaker 3:

I had a slight lean toward Marshall. I think they’re starting to play a little better. Dan Tony’s talked about how they’ve improved their defense. They have plenty of offensive fire power. The question with the herd are can they defend?

Speaker 1:

Do we have a line on that one, Mattie Cox?

Speaker 3:

Minus four. It’s open minus three and half, it’s up to minus four. So a little bit money on Marshall. A little bit more money on the over, I think that makes a ton of sense. Akron hasn’t quite made… I think they’re due to make some shots against a softer Marshall defense. So I guess I agree with the market opinion on both the side and the total so far.

Speaker 1:

Mid Major Matt, a thought or do you want to move on?

Speaker 2:

Another classic pace versus no pace game, although the pace this time is at home, Marshall is 18th in tempo and Akron is 357th.

Speaker 1:

Wow.

Speaker 2:

So if Akron can’t let this game get into a track meet, this is also their first true road game of the season, they played a ton of neutral court games, but this is their first true road game of the season, that’s always a little bit of a worry. But they do have somewhat of a veteran team this year.

Speaker 1:

All right. Another question, somebody that’s watching, it’s Eldridge. Eldridge says, “What do you guys think about FAU minus the seven and a half?” Of course, that’s the Florida Atlantic Team that won it Florida a couple of weeks ago. Guys, a thought, Mid Major Matt, a thought if no play?

Speaker 2:

I kind of liked South Alabama plus the points. I thought that they got some talent. There’s some concerns about them. They don’t rebound very well, they don’t get to the free throw line very well, which are two things that you kind of want to do when you’re on the road and you look at Florida Atlantic. I mean, they’re not a great offensive rebound or a great rebounding team either. But when you’re playing on the road, there’s a couple of things that you want to see and not being able to get to the line and not being able to get to rebounds were the reasons why I didn’t make that an official play. But I lean to the underdog.

Speaker 3:

Its line’s come down-

Speaker 1:

FAU laying… Pardon me.

Speaker 3:

… it’s down to minus six, down to six now. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, go ahead.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, minus six now.

Speaker 1:

I just saw it, minus six. A thought on that line. Is it too big, Mattie Cox?

Speaker 3:

I think it’s come down. If you like Florida Atlantic, you certainly like it now it’s six. I thought, I’m kind of torn in this game. I respect both teams, I think they’re both kind of feisty underdogs, deceptively talented despite the names attached to them. So I’ll stay away. If you like FAU, now’s the time to hop in. Don’t wait.

Speaker 1:

Vinchinzo watching us. Thank you, Vinchinzo, here on the BetUs College Basketball show, says, Michigan State at Notre Dame, he’s liking Michigan State, what do you guys think? Any thoughts, Mattie Cox, Spartans on the road?

Speaker 3:

I lean that way. Notre Dame’s done nothing impressive really at all this season, right? They have no depth. They might get marked as [inaudible 00:23:24] and backed imminently. He’s going to be a key addition to a roster, a rotation that’s basically six and a half guys right now. Michigan State’s got some injury question marks as well, they were not 100% healthy at the PK85. So a lot of unknowns, it’s why I stayed away, but I think my gut is screaming Michigan State. So it’s not a far travel, East Lansing to South Bend, so I don’t think I gave Notre Dame the same value for home that maybe I did some of these other ACC-Big Ten Challenge games.

Speaker 1:

I’m looking there, the BetUS line is Notre Dame or actually Michigan State lane two and a half on the road. Mid Major Matt, any thought real quick?

Speaker 2:

I actually do, I mean I lean to Notre Dame. I just think that this is one of these classic games. I mean, that the Joy Center is a tough place to play. Everybody can shoot a three. I think that’s an advantage for Notre Dame, and if Hammond comes back, I think that’s huge. Plus Mike Bray, I like as an underdog. That place is very loud. I’ve been there. It’s a very loud arena. So it was just a lean, I didn’t love it. Michigan State is just so all over the place. They should’ve lost to Portland, probably, and now they’re going to go to Notre Dame and play a team that’s slightly better than Portland.

Speaker 1:

Good enough on that. I’ll ask about Duke and Ohio State here. Duke got beaten up by Purdue on the weekend in the Phil Knight Legacy Tournament out in Portland. Ohio State comes in at. What, 5 and 1 here, Duke laying six and a half. Any thoughts guys on this one at Cameron and this ACC-Big Ten Challenge?

Speaker 3:

I wanted to lay it with Duke, but the market smashed it pretty early so it’s been bet up. I’m not going to endorse it at the current price. As dysfunctional as Duke looked at times throughout the PK85, this is a young Ohio State team that I do not trust on the road right now. Relying on a ton of freshmen, on top of the fact that Ohio State got them and Cameron Lash, there was a little bit of a revenge angle maybe on the minds of John Shire in the Devil. So that’s where I’d lean, but again, the price, it’s no bargain at the current number.

Speaker 1:

Mid Major Matt, any thought or do you want to move on?

Speaker 2:

I mean, I don’t like playing against Duke in the Dork Dome. I mean the kids, they’re going to be rocking. I mean I think they’re going to put on their best pajamas for this one tonight, maybe put away the Star Wars gear and show up for the game tonight. Yeah, and it’s a young team so it’s funny though, the one thing is that’s funny is that KenPom actually has Ohio State one spot ahead of Duke. Duke didn’t play well in Portland, but I expect them to play better in front of their fans.

Speaker 1:

Josh is watching us, Josh has a question about Kansas State, “Is K State legit enough to beat and cover against Butler?” Thoughts? Mid Major Matt, back to you, thought on that?

Speaker 2:

Butler’s been playing pretty good this year. I’m looking to see. The one thing that, I mean that we kind of talked about it on Monday, you’ve got Butler coming home from The Bahamas, obviously there are some teams that have come off of some of these tournaments in Hawaii, in The Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, and then that first game, there kind of is a little bit of a letdown. So that’s my worry here. But Kansas State’s pretty good at 6 and 0. I’m so glad for Keyontae Johnson just to see what he’s been able to do after what he went through at Florida.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Matt Cox, thoughts? Mattie?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I took Butler at minus two. I’ve been on Butler way too often this year. The problem is that they’re not 100% healthy. I think they only had seven guys last game. They’re going to be a little bit shorthanded tonight. But I think with the time off to rest, recover, you only need seven when you’ve had three days off. So I like Butler tonight. I’m not a full case state believer. They’re better than I thought they were, I think seeing Key Johnson playing a full workload and be as effective as he was back when he was the SEC pre-season player of the year front runner many moons ago makes me reassess my case date priors. But I still think Butler’s the right side tonight.

Speaker 1:

Interesting. I keep hearing bells ding, or maybe that’s just me in my own head.

Speaker 3:

That’s me. That’s my-

Speaker 1:

I’m not sure. [inaudible 00:27:10]-

Speaker 3:

Those are my Butler backers coming in. Butler [inaudible 00:27:12]-

Speaker 1:

There you go, the Butler backers are with you on that. A couple of more moments, a couple of more questions before we’re gone. Barry says, “I love the over call on New Mexico and St. Mary’s.” He says, “I also like the plus 10 or am I giving New Mexico too much credit? What about the side there, not an official play?” Mattie Cox, the side with the Lobos, you were saying something about that before.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, we touched on this a little bit earlier. I think it’s a little bit big, the number, but I wouldn’t bet against St. Mary’s at home, even though the number looks a little big. I think they are just so tough at that building in the Pack Northwest. Their defense is stimming, they execute game plans as good as anything in the country. I would not take the Lobos here, even though it’s a pretty big number.

Speaker 1:

We’re getting obscure, Kanes Nation wants to know about the total in the Lipscomb, Navy game. This is what you get here on the BetUS College Basketball show, including questions about Lipscomb and Navy. Thoughts, guys, either one of you?

Speaker 3:

Yeah. Tips in 30 minutes, I have absolutely zero thoughts on the total, but if you’re looking to get involved in some daytime basketball action, I guess I would lean the over. I think both teams offenses can score pretty efficiently, but that’s the softest of leans.

Speaker 1:

Matt, Mid Major Matt, a thought or just move on, stay away?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, Navy, a slow pace team, shoots the three really well. Lipscomb doesn’t really play much defense, plus Navy was pushed a little bit by Coppin State on the road. I kind of do lean also to the over, but I’m very tepid on that. It’s also a noon game in Lipscomb. Nashville, Tennessee rocking usually at night, but I don’t know what it’s like at noon. So slight lean to the over.

Speaker 1:

Right. A lot more tame at noon around Nashville. Pete has a great comment in the live chat. Can we get this up, from Antonio about the dings and the bells? He’s figured it out. He’s a good detective. He says, that’s the Crockpot. Lunch is probably ready-

Speaker 3:

That’s right. It’s time to go.

Speaker 1:

… before the Navy game.

Speaker 3:

Chicken’s burning. Thanks for that.

Speaker 1:

On that note, let’s circle back to the best bet, shall we? Here’s what the handicappers are on for tonight, you’ve got multiple plays on the Miami game, as a matter of fact, Mid Major Matt on the money line and Mattie Cox is laying points, Mid Major Matt also liking Providence on the road as a doggy as well as an over total, and Mattie Cox, even though we don’t see it here, you’re on the side of Toledo overall for the game at minus four and a half as the official play, but you’re not against playing the first half line as well as you stated earlier in the show for those just joining us.

Speaker 3:

That’s correct. That’s right. Yeah. Full game, officially on, I’m endorsing first half. I input my information in the graphics box wrong, that’s my mistake. So yes, clarification, full game Toledo, but a strong endorsement cosigned for the first half.

Speaker 1:

Fair enough on that. Final thoughts, guys? We’re going to see a lot of great ACC-Big Ten action. That 1 and 7 Florida state team gets to play Purdue. Good luck on that. And by the way, the 0 and 7 Cal team along with Louisville, what did I see? It is the first time in 70 years that you’ve got two power five teams, or power six now with the Big East, that are 0 and 7 to start the season, and that’s Louisville and Cal. Cal gets USC tonight in a conference game on November 30th at home. Could be 0 and 8 in that one. Any final thoughts, guys? Mid Major Matt, final thought before we’re good?

Speaker 2:

Final thought, Emoni Bates is going to score 40 tonight against FAU. They’re going to lose because that’s just what’s going to happen, Eastern Michigan doesn’t play any defense, but I think Emoni Bates breaks out tonight for the Eastern Michigan Eagles.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, he is definitely a shot taker, if not a shot maker. So we’ll see how many shots he takes tonight. Mattie Cox, any thoughts before we’re gone and good?

Speaker 3:

Hey, I’ll add on that thought. I took EMU money line. I think they got a chance to beat that [inaudible 00:30:56] in a high variance type game. So right with the Emoni Bates, the shot taker, shot maker.

Speaker 1:

All right, very good on that. Go get some Crockpot chicken, if I can get it out, go have fun with that. Mattie Cox, thank you, Mid Major Matt, thank you. Good luck with your plays tonight. Gentlemen, we always appreciate it.

Speaker 2:

Thank you.

Speaker 1:

And we thank Antonio and everybody at BetUS. Be with us here weekdays at 11:00 AM for the BetUS College Basketball Show.
