Movsar Evloev vs Aljamain Sterling Betting Analysis

It’s always a good feeling when our BetUS MMA handicappers align on one fighter, and in this case, we have Dave and Kyle both including the former UFC Bantamweight Champion, Aljamain Sterling, in their UFC fights this weekend.

Sterling stepped up in class to the featherweight ranks in his last fight when he out-grappled Calvin Kattar en route to a unanimous decision. He will now lock horns with Russian Movsar Evloev, a high-level grappler in his own right and five years his junior.

In the UFC fight card this weekend, Sterling has been installed as a +200 underdog, which is a testament to how highly respected Evloev is at this point in his career. However, Sterling has had a litany of championship-caliber opponents, and all that experience can be a decisive factor in defeating a younger challenger.

Evloev will welcome a fight with Sterling standing up or on the ground. Sterling will be inclined to bring this one down to the mat, where we should note that he has twice as many submission victories as Evloev and could catch the Russian when he’s least suspecting it.

I would like to grab the extra juice we’re getting on Sterling by a decision (+330) as Kyle advises, but something’s telling me the former champ could stealthily slip in a guillotine or rear naked choke and stun the undefeated Russian. So, to put myself at ease, I will follow Dave’s advice and simply bet Sterling on the moneyline +200.

Pick: Sterling +200 ML

Vicente Luque vs Themba Gorimbo Betting Analysis

Dave has got my attention in his Vicente Luque vs Themba Gorimbo Betting Analysis, and I am definitely buying what he’s selling on the underdog, Vicente Luque. Although the Silent Assassin has indeed lost 3 of his last 4 matches, he is still uniquely equipped to deal damage on his feet or down on the mat.

In Luque’s 22 wins, 11 have been by knockout while 8 have come by way of submission. The man is lethal, and we’re getting him at plus money because people are apprehensive about his recent spate of setbacks.

However, his opponent, Zimbabwe’s rising star Themba Gorimbo, took this fight on only a few weeks’ notice after Luque’s initial opponent, Nick Diaz, dropped out. That’s a big advantage for Luque right there, and although Gorimbo will have a 2-inch height and 1 ½ inch reach advantage, I see Luque wanting this tilt to go to the mat where he will be able to exploit any opening Gorimbo gives him in the blink of an eye.

Luque is more than capable of violence himself, but I see him playing the role of a tactician in this fight, which is why I am including him as one of my best bets in the UFC fights coming up on Saturday.

Pick: Luque +125
