P4P Rankings Betting Information
This past year will go down as one of the UFC’s most exciting thanks to a slew of upsets that shook up the pound-for-pound rankings. While the women had its fair share, the men saw two P4P kings get dethroned in violent fashion. This prompted a much-needed change to the list.
Meanwhile, the top women’s P4P fighters either held steady or reclaimed their spot at or near the top with a little help from other underdogs. Either way, the UFC betting odds were filled with folks cashing in big this 2022.

The two most notable upsets in the UFC belonged to Edwards and Pereira, who both vault to the top five of the rankings. The two finished Usman and Adesanya, the former top two P4P fighters, respectively. Edwards lived up to his moniker of “Rocky” by knocking Usman out in the fifth round of a fight he was losing. Pereira did it in an eerily similar fashion to his longtime nemesis.
Both Edwards’ and Pereira’s upset wins also paid out big on the online sportsbook with Edwards valued at 3-1 while Pereira nearly hit 2-1 (+180). And in a similar fashion, Sterling upset Yan as the +350 underdog champion. Doing so helped him keep both his bantamweight belt and his spot in the rankings.
Thanks to Edwards and Pereira, we also have a new top two. Volkanovski becomes the UFC’s most dominant champion as the Australian is now the longest reigning active male title-holder. He destroyed Chan Sung Jung and ended his rivalry with Max Holloway.
As for Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s prodigy made short work of Charles Oliveira to capture the lightweight belt. Makhachev has now won 10 straight fights with the last five coming by way of finish.
Volkanovski and Makhachev are also reportedly set to fight each other on UFC 284 on Feb. 12. It will mark the first time the top two UFC P4P fighters will meet in the octagon.

Women’s P4P Rankings
- Amanda Nunes (22-5-0)
- Valentina Shevchenko (23-3-0)
- Zhang Weili (23-3-0)
- Rose Namajunas (11-5-0)
- Carla Esparza (19-7-0)
- Jessica Andrade (23-9-0)

While the men saw its former P4P fighters felled, the women saw Nunes recapture the top spot. The “Lioness” slew Pena in a rematch to reclaim her 135-pound title. It was a beatdown, which only further established Nunes as the fighter to beat in the UFC’s women’s divisions.
Nunes’ foil, Shevchenko, remained the UFC’s longest-reigning active champion. She almost suffered a massive upset herself as Santos was one scorecard away from ending her three-and-a-half-year title reign. Had Santos won, that not only would have been one of the best UFC bets (+400).
And just like Nunes, Zhang recaptured both her title and a spot in the top three by mauling Esparza. “Magnum” also had a highlight-reel knockout over former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Now Zhang, Esparza, and Namajunas are all but tied together in the rankings thanks to their wins over each other.
Zhang defeated Esparza, who owns two wins over Namajunas, who in turn holds a pair of wins over Zhang. That’s some solid “MMA math” for you.
While Volkanovski and Makhachev also aim for a “superfight,” there is potential we will see one here as well. Shevchenko already mentioned both Nunes and Zhang in terms of “champion versus champion” bouts. Regardless of who she fights, it will be interesting to bet online as the three have been far and away the best fighters in 2022.
