Catchweights Battle in Las Vegas
John Castaneda and Daniel Santos feature on the main card at UFC Fight Night: Dern vs Xiaonan and it should be an excellent catchweight fight.
UFC odds have Castaneda at -190 to win and remain unbeaten since arriving in the UFC, but Santos is a dangerous 8-2 fighter.
Castaneda Making an Impression
The 30-year-old American has been impressive since making his UFC debut in February last year, so he’s worth following.
Castaneda knocked out Eddie Wineland in the opening round before beating the talented Miles Johns by submission in the third round in February.
He has shown his overall skills and we’re not surprised to see the sportsbook list him as the -190 favorite.
The Texan not only has a significant reach advantage, but he has a high work rate and that’s always crucial for a catchweight fighter.
Castaneda works hard in the gym and he’s being rewarded with main-card fights.
“Staying consistent in the gym is one of my biggest things. I love training, I love what I do, the UFC was a big goal for me, I’m here now, and now I want to keep my job, so going into the gym is honestly the best part of my day,” Castaneda told UFC.com.
We expect plenty of money to come for Castaneda, so the -190 could firm on fight night.
Santos Needs to Prove Himself
Santos didn’t look overly impressive in his UFC debut when losing to Julio Arce, so he needs to improve on that effort.
The Brazilian had looked good in other promotions, including winning by spinning back kick against Henrique Fantini at Future FC 6, so he has finishing ability.
His next win came via armbar, so he’s another talented fighter, but the UFC is different gravy and we’re not sure he’s up for it.
As UFC betting markets suggest, the +155 underdog needs to lift to beat Castaneda and he’ll need to land a clean punch to get it done.
He has the power to get it done, and the variety of his attack is excellent. However, Castaneda is a well-rounded fighter with a good defense, so it won’t be easy.

Castaneda vs Santos Prediction
It’s never easy to take -190 for a UFC fighter, but we’re confident with Castaneda taking the victory on Saturday.
He has experience winning in the UFC and that can’t be overlooked, especially against a guy who is 0-1 in the Octagon.
We expect his odds to shorten to around -200 on fight night, so lock in the early value.
