Flyweights Clash in Bout of Top Contenders
Kai Kara-France and Amir Albazi meet in a flyweight main event to potentially determine the next title contender. Kara-France wants to get back to the title picture after falling short against Brandon Moreno last year. Albazi is 4-0 in the UFC and facing a steep step up in competition. The UFC lines are at a pick’em here after the public bet Kara-France down.
Kara-France Ready to Earn Another Shot
Kara-France is 0-2 against the current champion Moreno. But he can still get a third crack at him if he keeps taking down all the contenders the UFC sends at him. The New Zealander is a brilliant kickboxer and trains out of City Kickboxing with the likes of Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski.
Aside from Moreno, Kara-France has only lost once – against Brandon Royval in a fight that earned him the Fight of the Night. Since that fight, Kara-France has improved. He’s sharpened both his striking and defensive grappling. He stuffs takedowns at an 87 percent clip. Against Askar Askarov, a fighter who fought the champ to a draw, he defended 12 of 14 takedown attempts.

The key for Kara-France will be to fight Albazi at the range in which he can operate. The fighters he’s lost to were great at getting in his face and mixing it up. If Kara-France can execute over five rounds, he should deliver as the UFC pick.
Is Albazi Ready for This Level?
The folks betting online are fading Albazi for a few reasons. One, “The Prince” has been relatively untested against top levels of competition. He’s looked impressive against fighters outside the top 15. But what happens when he takes on a former title challenger and arguably the division’s best pure striker?
Albazi did not get this fight out of luck. The Xtreme Couture fighter is a powerful grappler who is no slouch on his feet. He is a better-rounded fighter than Kara-France; hence why the sportsbook had him as the favorite when the lines opened.
Albazi will need to find a way to neutralize Kara-France’s striking. He can do that by constantly pressuring him with his grappling. Even if he does not successfully land takedowns, getting Kara-France to constantly defend means he can tire him out and mute his potent striking. If he does that, he’ll make UFC news as a new contender.

Albazi has a 1.5-inch reach advantage over France in this fight. That’s their most significant physical difference as they are nearly similar in height and age. They both also strike in the orthodox stance.
