One-Way Traffic for Della Maddalena
Most of the early betting support has come for Australian Jack Della Maddalena, who is the -550 favorite with UFC betting markets.
The welterweight faces Danny Roberts, who is 18-6 and looks to get his career back on track after losing to Francisco Trinaldo.
Bettors should expect a wild fight as Della Maddalena comes out swinging for the fences.
Favorite on a Knockout Mission
Della Maddalena isn’t yet a household name in the UFC world, but at 12-2, he’s getting there, especially after two wild knockout wins.
The energetic Australian has had two UFC fights with two first-round knockouts, so he couldn’t have been more impressive so far. He knocked out Pete Rodriguez in just under three minutes in his UFC debut before taking just 2:32 to knock out Ramazan Emeev.
His style of fighting will inevitably end in him getting knocked out. Such is the nature of the sport, but he faces Roberts brimming full of confidence.
The sportsbook expects him to win at -550, so bettors might need to look to exotic betting markets for more value. He’s currently paying -250 to win by knockout, which is better shopping if you’re in Della Maddalena’s corner.
“I know he’s a game opponent and at some point I think I’m going to hit him and he tends to then bite down and get into exchanges,” Della Maddalena said. He’s not the most technical puncher in the world. He definitely punches hard but I think there’s opportunities where I can not get hit and land on the counter and hurt him.
“It might take three rounds but I think I can get him out of there at some stage.”
Roberts Calling on Experience
Roberts has been in the UFC since 2015, so he has the experience edge over Della Maddalena.
The 35-year-old Brit had won his previous two fights against Zelim Imadaev and Ramazan Eveev before losing to Trinaldo, so he’s good enough to get back to his best form.
Las Vegas lines aren’t giving him much respect at +375, but he’s a fighting chance and he only needs to avoid getting hit with a big punch.
He needs to produce a career-best performance to score the upset, but bettors shouldn’t give up on Roberts. He has fought some tough opponents, and although he’s struggling to win fights by knockout, he could last the full three rounds.
