UFC Atlantic City: Fighter Previews

Erin Blanchfield

Blanchfield, a native New Jerseyan, has put up championship-caliber performances in her first six UFC fights, winning all six in a row against progressively better opponents thanks to her determination, offensive grappling, and high Fight IQ.

The 24-year-old is a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. It has displayed her grappling prowess most recently when blasting through former champion Jessica Andrade via submission and the ever-intimidating Talia Santos.

  • Blanchfield is riding a 9-fight win streak dating back to 2019
  • Blanchfield has won 50% of her UFC bouts via submission
  • Blanchfield has gone the distance with

Manon Fiorot

Also undefeated inside the Octagon, Fiorot most recently defeated Rose Namajunas in Paris, her home country, to improve her record to 6-0 as a UFC competitor. “The Beast” has won her last 11 fights in a row in various promotions, and not since her pro debut (2018) has she suffered defeat, and this bout was notably a split decision that should’ve likely gone in her favor.

The 34-year-old began her UFC career with a string of finishes, but she has since shown a mastery of outworking her opponents and dominating the scorecards. Look no further if you’re looking for precise, clean, and elite-level strikers at 125lbs.

  • Fiorot is riding an 11-fight win streak
  • Fiorot’s lone pro career loss came in 2018, where she was arguably robbed
  • Fiorot has won 67% of her UFC bouts via unanimous decision

UFC Atlantic City: Main Event Breakdown & Analysis

Blanchfield fight style & how can Blanchfield defeat Fiorot

The good ole’ striker versus grappler matchup is about to take place in Atlantic City, and Blanchfield falls into the former category. Aside from her BJJ credentials, she’s displayed an impressive ability in taking her opponents to the ground and controlling them to the point where they cannot return to their feet.

Of course, her striking offense hasn’t been too shabby, but there’s no need to show off this aspect of her game this weekend. Fiorot will be difficult to read and conquer in such scenarios, so, expect the New Jersey local to employ a gameplan that she’s most comfortable with, as the sportsbook certainly expects the takedown attempts followed by spammed submissions to come early and often.

The Best path to victory for Blanchfield: Take Fiorot to the ground, wear her down, and sink in a submission.

Fiorot fight style & how can Fiorot defeat Blanchfield

Oppositely, Fiorot doesn’t entertain much inside the octagon, aside from the emphatic striking skills she brings to the table. With that said, the few takedown attempts she’s landed have been impressive. Of course, her best work is done via striking on the outside, but even in the pocket, you don’t want to trade blows with this woman, or else it might be an early night for those opposite.

Fiorot is ten years older than Blanchfield, and this bout could well evolve into a situation where the woman bullies the girl. At 34, she isn’t beyond her prime, and unlike most of Blanchfield’s opponents to date (besides Santos), Fiorot has the physicality to muscle herself out of grappling situations, whether they’re out in the open or against the cage.

On the record, Fiorot has been taken down on just one occasion – versus Jennifer Maia – but even in that bout, you’ll notice her lightening reactions to takedown attempts, and that’s precisely what you want to see ahead of scheduled fights against renowned grapplers.

Twenty-five minutes is a long time to spam takedowns and maintain control; even some of the promotions best struggle to find the cardio to achieve this. Fiorot needs to keep this fight standing for at least 15 minutes, and she’ll need to accomplish this to land more damaging blows.

The Best path to victory for Fiorot was to sprawl and brawl while technically outclassing Blanchfield on the feet to a unanimous decision.

Blanchfield vs Fiorot Prediction:

UFC Atlantic City Best Bet: Fiorot Moneyline [+150]

Don’t be surprised if these two ladies meet again one day with the flyweight championship up for grabs; however, at 24, Blanchfield still has some maturing to do, as proven by her reckless, rushed attempts to grab the takedown in past bouts, and this forces me to take the plus-money.

Fiorot’s movement and athleticism are much greater than Blanchfield’s past opponents, and I can envision her struggling to keep the Frenchwoman in one position. I expect more minutes to result in striking exchanges than not, so picking a side becomes a no-brainer.

Ultimately, nobody would’ve been shocked to see Las Vegas odds price this bout at -110 on either side. We have two undefeated prospects with elite skills in opposite disciplines; give me the underdog.

UFC Atlantic City Main Event: The Crystal Ball Prediction

In this striker v grappler main event matchup, a quick rub of my crystal ball reveals that the physicality, striking prowess, and octagon awareness of Fiorot will lead her to a unanimous decision victory as she pieces up Blanchfield on the feet for at least 15 of the 25 allotted minutes.
